If anyone wants to do sub with new PSA special, I can do SMALL one! Ad Adendum!

Please keep it around 20 cards or less per person. I am STILL holding out hope grading will get back down to $10 or so, but so far, no dice. The special is for VINTAGE ONLY and can't be any outstanding cards, as the value is $200 or less. They MUST be normal.....and can only be sports.

If anyone is interested, respond here.

Tyruscobb 02-02-2023 07:45 AM

I'm always game for a few.

MidnightMarauders 02-02-2023 08:12 AM

I'm in on this one.

bobbyw8469 02-02-2023 08:23 AM

Send to ROBERT WILLIAMS, PO BOX 61362, RALEIGH, NC. 27661-1362

Include a slip of paper stating the cards, what you value them at should PSA lose them, your return shipping address and your Net54 handle so I know how to contact you.

Cards MUST be in Card Saver I's, 2's are OK, but I use 1's and I like uniformiity. NO TOP LOADERS.

Price is $15 per card, plus $2 per card to cover shipping to and from California.

I appreciate you putting this group together, and all the hard work that goes into it. I think I've participated in every group you've done during the past two years.

What's the drop-dead deadline to send the cards to you?

Thanks Bobby! Count me in please

It's a short month, so let's say the 17th.

eusmawh 02-02-2023 12:13 PM

Hi Bobby,
Count me in for about 8 or so cards. Thanks!

BioCRN 02-02-2023 03:34 PM

Are you taking people you haven't dealt with before for your submission?

I have 2-4 cards that I have set aside for an eventual trip to PSA.

Jcosta19 02-02-2023 03:59 PM

I'm in for 2 or 3 cards thanks.

I'm assuming exhibits are too large for this sub?

Everyone right now trying to do the math to determine if the original cost you paid for a card, plus the per-card sub price, and the cost of shipping to and from Bobby, could possibly make sending in a card valued at less than $200 worth it...while also factoring in how little the card will be worth after PSA waaaaay undergrades it... :D

Does anyone know if it is ok to use Humongous Hoard #1 savers for PSA submissions or does it really have to be Card Saver 1's? I have a ton of the Humongous Hoard that I would like to use.
Thanks!

Oh....those are top loaders. No top loaders. It is wayyyyy easier to get cards in and out with card savers.

JollyElm 02-03-2023 02:20 PM

Here's a weird question, is there an upcharge fee schedule?

In other words, you send in a $200 value card and it grades out better than expected (HA! HA! HA! God, that's funny!!! When does a card ever come back graded higher than expected???) and they hit you with an upcharge. Does that fee vary? Say the card is deemed to be worth $400, is that added fee the same amount as one deemed to be valued at $500, $600, etc.? And what amounts are these upcharges? Is there a sliding scale?

It would be nice to have that specific info in order to weigh the risk of submitting cards that could possibly breach the $200 mark.

I think it’s based on the different service levels on their website, which specify the price points and max values.

https://www.psacard.com/pricing

If there are multiple service levels with the same value limit, then I think you pay for the lowest service that your item qualifies for.

So I’m interpreting this to mean that you would pay $25 for an item valued up until $499, and from $500 to $1,499 in value costs $75. Hard to imagine you would pop above that level without seriously misunderestimating the value of your item.

It's sad when you're digging through your stuff to find nice, valuable cards to get graded...but then you have to hope they have problems that devalue them enough to get them beneath the $200 value limit!!!

I sent in a vintage order of 70 cards for this same special on Feb 27th. It moved to 'Grading' yesterday. Will follow along in this thread to see how things are moving, and if I get any updates, I'll try to remember to post them here as well.

Slowed down

Seems like the good folks at PSA have slowed down of late. Modern stuff flies right through. But my vintage pieces are languishing. For example, my submission from October just recently landed at the assembly phase. I’m guessing I still have another month or two. So 6+ months seems like it could be par for the course for vintage pieces at the bulk submission level.

I have heard this from other submitters as well. It begs the question if PSA is using different graders for different eras......

A little bit tin foil hat on my part, but nonetheless...

SGC has been making a huge move on later 2022 and recent 2023 releases to take advantage of PSA backlog and establish themselves more firmly in the ultra-modern market.

SGC has run some really consumer-friendly promos on the newer stuff lately. Their 2022 Bowman Chrome special was a huge run for $9/card.

PSA is still king of volume by a lot, but SGC wants a bigger piece.

My experience suggests that they are indeed. And they staffed up heavily to handle the huge volume on the modern side over the last couple of years. Now that modern submissions have dropped dramatically, modern submissions seem to be moving quickly.

For example, I had a modern submission at the economy level that was about a month door to door. Just sent it in January, so it’s pretty recent history.

Bobby and I talked a few hours ago. He told me this submission group’s grades just popped. However, work has him bogged down. He hopes to post the grades later today - around 2:00 pm (EST). Bobby said the grades really surprised him. He thought PSA assessed some generous grades. Hope all my grades exceed expectations. Good luck to everyone. Bobby, thanks for doing these submission groups, and for all your hard work.

BioCRN 04-01-2023 01:06 AM

Awesome. I have low expectations for my submissions, but I paid a price for the raw cards appropriate for a PSA 1.5 - 2 type return. That makes the chance of a random "authentic" knock a bit easier to stomach if that happens. If i break through a PSA 2 on either, wow, bonus.

They're just a couple pieces for my graded Cubs notables/greats/legends.

Appreciate the chance to get into the group sub and I really appreciate the work of bobbyw8469/Robert. Thanks.

cubman1941 04-01-2023 04:58 AM

Thanks, appreciate the update and thank, Bobby, for all your work!!

bobbyw8469 04-01-2023 08:20 AM

PSA just called me with some bad news. Unfortunately, they have misplaced the box. This marks the 2nd time they have lost one of my orders. I will get back with everyone later. They pay out at what the declared values were at the time of submission.

Unbelievable. I go from praising PSA’s quick turnaround time and allegedly assigning great grades to cursing its incompetence in losing our package. What a flipping rollercoaster ride. Uhh.

They have a habit of doing this every April 1st!!!

Both were jokes. Grading is not complete. Package was not lost.

drapala 04-01-2023 06:41 PM

Now I'm disappointed and relieved. Well done! I'll go back to hoping we'll get them by the summer.

JollyElm 04-02-2023 04:09 PM

There is a bit of unintended tranquility in that April Fools' prank. (Well done, Bobby!!)

Everyone's visceral reaction of, "NO EFFIN' WAY!!!!!!!! THEY LOST MY FRICKIN' CARDS?????????!!!!!!!!!!!", will now be replaced by a feeling of being extremely fortunate that nothing went wrong. The end result? When the cards do finally come back with waaaaay lower numbers than they should've gotten, we will all be able to accept it more easily, as we'll just be happy that they didn't lose our stuff. A little pre-easing of our pain, if I may 'Field of Dreams' it.

From what I'm hearing, PSA is going over on their turn around estimates for vintage subs by about 2 months. I seem to recall that these were quoted with a 65 day turnaround (which translates to 3 months as they only count business days). So maybe 5 ish months total if they're keeping up that pace? Hopefully it's sooner, but that puts these at late July if accurate.

One thing I am noticing is that submissions seem to linger for longer at some of the late stages. My previous experience is that QA1 and QA2 used to go pretty quick. Maybe a couple of days, or a week at most.

The last couple of large(ish) vintage submissions that I submitted have lingered for multiple weeks at each of those stages. Maybe there was something that went wrong with my submissions that was unique to just my pieces, and they had to fix it. Or maybe those processes are just a bigger bottleneck now.

Republicaninmass 05-11-2023 08:22 AM

I experienced some movement while the orders were not showing up. However, mine is all pre 60s
