World Series predictions - Phillies vs Astros
Any predictions for the World Series? I'm a lifelong Phillies fan, but I don't see them beating Houston. I'm thinking Houston in 6, but could be even less. However, I'd be very happy to be wrong. :)
|
I think Astros in 6 is right on.
|
Phillies in 6 lol.
|
Would like to see the Phillies win, love the working class attitude, but I think their pitching isn't as deep and the Astros defense is top notch.
Hopefully, Dusty can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like he's always done. |
Meh, I’m rooting for the umpires. I don’t care for either team.

My own preference is Phillies. But I have a 9 yo Houston fan in my home, so if Houston wins I must be happy. However, I was rooting for San Diego. 1998 seems like so long ago. Sent from my SM-G9900 using Tapatalk |
I have no interest in either team I am just hoping for the series to go 7 and have some close games and memorable moments.
My Logic (or lack there of ) says Houston in 5 |

This is the old "Irresistible Force" meets "Immovable Object" scenario.
The Phillies are the Irresistible Force, being the underdog in every series; the Astros are the Immovable Object, having swept each of their series. In fact, each of the five NL playoff series was won by the underdog; the Padres beat the Mets and Dodgers, and the Phillies beat the Cardinals, Braves and Padres. But now they face the Astros, who are undefeated in the postseason. So, who wins? Steve |
Like to see the Phillies win but thinking they need to get 1 of the 1`st 2 games. Secondly, please please please put the ball in play. This endless stream of strikeouts is getting tough to watch, even for hardcore baseball fans.
|
I want it to go 7 and include more than one ghost-runnerless extra-inning game and at least three weather postponements...pushing the final way too close to Thanksgiving. That'll learn em.
...that's what I want... what I predict is trashtros in 6. |
Lifelong Phillies fan. Just don't see them winning. Astros in 5 I think.
|
|
Such a long layoff with the short championship series....I'm having baseball withdrawals!

The Phillies are a streaky team. Cooling off for a few days probably isn't the best scenario. The Astros have lost two of the last three World Series. Having a few days to think about that probably isn't the best scenario. |

Unfortunately, I predict I won't watch it:) Trent King

Sometime in games 4-7 someone hits three homers in a game and becomes the first "Mr November"

In (what I believe was) the first November MLB at-bat in history, Derek Jeter hit a game-winning home run. The Mr. November moniker was quickly bestowed upon Jeter and persists to this day. |
will be more interested in the Ratings than the score or the winner.
I do not see the hype as much in past years which is odd we have stars on both teams, we have the "cheating astros", and we have storylines And talking with people around the country I know does not seem to have the feel for it ALSO the long wait for game 1 has not helped |
As an Orioles fan living in Houston, I've been happy to see my guy Trey Mancini in the hunt for a ring. For that reason alone I've watched more of this postseason than I did over the last decade combined. Mancini hasn't had a lot of success since getting here but if they win it won't matter.
I got to meet Dusty Baker at a luncheon last year. He was a prince. He deserves a ring as well. The Astros are just so solid, top to bottom. It's hard to see them losing if they continue to pitch like they have and sprinkle in enough clutch hits. But then again it's baseball. Who figured the Phillies would get this far? If they can split the first two here they may just pull it off. |
Bold prediction for Game 1: John Smoltz will talk and talk and talk, without saying much of anything.
|
What a game so far!
|
Great game. Verlander 0-6 in World Series starts, now holds the Major League record for highest career ERA in WS history at 6.07.
|
Down 5-0 in game 1, the Phillies come all the way back to win 6-5. Biggest comeback in a WS game 1 ever. Wow. The Whiz Kids were swept in 1950 in 4 games...

Incredible game! I did not expect the game-saving defensive play of the night from Castellanos

My never say die Phillies!

I'm also not a fan of Arod in the booth, but I liked the ALCS crew. Darling is great imo

I actually predicted that last night’s game would end in a tie.:D

I think it will go 7 with the Astros winning.

HR derby in Philly tonight...

Could be a short series if Houston is not careful |
Am I the only guy that's less than impressed with a "combined" no hitter?

I hate them! They point more to the ineptitude of the opposing hitters, as opposed to the dominance of the pitcher(s). Steve |
Not as good as a true No-No, but still pretty impressive.
|
Also, a rare GREAT move by Dusty pulling Javier out of there.
He has to plan for a game 7 Sunday and why burn out Javier. He's gotta start him on short rest over McCullers (who blows). So leaving him in for a shot at a no hitter over the greater good would have been a terrible decision. Dusty just may get one. |
I didn't understand why McCullers started game 3 instead of Javier considering how Javier has done in his most recent starts. I'm not sure if he would start a game 7 on short rest since he threw almost 100 pitches (unless it was planned for just a few innings), but I would expect him to be available out of the bullpen for a few innings if needed.
|
This is shaping up to be an interesting series. Split after 4 games. Heavy hitting and then no hitter.
Best of 3 now |

Could come back to hurt him, but we'll see. I think its the Phillies in must win mode tonight. |

My prediction was Houston in 6 and unless the Phillies can find a way to win tonight with Syndergaard (and a lot of his bullpen friends) pitching, that looks like the most likely outcome with Valdez against Wheeler the matchup in game 6. |

Wow
Houston Wins 2 straight and looks to close it out and Verlander did not look good but pitched well enough to keep his team in it 1 Run but 4 walks and only went 5 innings But he got the win |
Just saw this on Facebook. It's the impression Chas McCormick made on the warning track after he made the catch against the fence last night. The picture was taken by a fan sitting above where the catch was made.

World Series
There's something so gosh darn peachy about Bryce Harper still on the
outside, looking in. I know he's got 300 million reasons to be happy- but he doesn't have the title:) Trent King |
Quote:
the only person I am happy for is Dusty Baker. Glad he has his title. But neither team are likeable to me and I could not root for either team. Glad it is over. Now to the off season and pray my team does something right to get us to where we want to be |

Yeah...to heck with the Trashtros. The only one I'm happy for is Dusty Baker. Could not give a hoot for the rest of 'em, or their obnoxious fan base. Won the World Series again, eh? Big effing deal. They used to be somewhat likeable. Now, rooting for them is like rooting for the Yankees or the Red Sox...
