Bicem 08-14-2022 10:03 PM

Same, guessing they will add more time

jonvancouver 08-14-2022 10:03 PM

Fairy obvious that it was going to happen. How else can they squeeze another 24 hours of bidding in.

Peter_Spaeth 08-14-2022 10:04 PM

We'll see how it plays out, I guess.

Elderwood17 08-14-2022 10:04 PM

GregZakwin 08-14-2022 10:05 PM

It eventually loaded a "server error application" timeout page for me.

chadeast 08-14-2022 10:05 PM

Again?!? Happening a second time is ridiculous.

A thing of beauty it is not.

Second auction in a row that this has happened. REA is dropping off my list of consignors soon.

GregZakwin 08-14-2022 10:06 PM

Now:

"Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable."

BeanTown 08-14-2022 10:07 PM

Yup, it’s down. I’m off to bed

Peter_Spaeth 08-14-2022 10:07 PM

We are aware of issues involving access to the site, and we are working to resolve them rapidly.

In order to properly resolve the issues, the auction will have to be taken offline for a short period of time. This will involve temporarily closing the auction to preserve the data as it currently stands. During this time, individual item pages may display language to the effect of "Item Closed," "Lot Sold," and/or "Unavailable For Bidding."

Despite these messages, please understand that the auction is NOT closed and will reopen with bids at the levels where they were prior to the auction being taken offline. These are temporary messages that we cannot prevent from displaying during an event like this.

Once access to the site is restored and the auction is brought back online, each lot will be given a fresh 20 minute clock for the lot by lot closing period to restart.

In the event that a similar event happens before the 20 minutes are elapsed, we will again take the auction offline and follow the same steps as outlined above.

In the event that a third event happens before the second period of 20 minutes has elapsed, the auction will be extended under 9 PM EDT on Monday, August 15, at which time the standard 10 minute lot by lot closing will take effect.

We deeply regret this occurrence and are working closely with our software partners to resolve it as quickly and effectively as possible.

Please stay tuned to your email for updates.

Deja vu.

It's hard to believe that an industry leader would allow this to happen repeatedly...

Peter_Spaeth 08-14-2022 10:10 PM

Hopefully they can jumpstart it soon and we don't go another full day.

patricka 08-14-2022 10:10 PM

You would think with these technical issues happening like last time they would have the 10 minute countdown start at like 10pm eastern time which still allows people on the west coast a reasonable time to start bidding in the countdown period.

Carter08 08-14-2022 10:11 PM

I said it was unacceptable the first time. Hopefully others demand it be fixed now. Prices are very strong in this auction from what I can tell - will be even stronger if a day gets added.

mordecaibrown1 08-14-2022 10:11 PM

RE Auction

Now it says all lots are closed?

Peter_Spaeth 08-14-2022 10:13 PM

My lot is counting down from 20 minutes.

Would have been a nice quote at the end of their last auction when this happened.

timn1 08-14-2022 10:14 PM

Read the email

They have closed all lots temporarily as they try to restore access - lots are not closed.

patricka 08-14-2022 10:14 PM

Yep, 20 minute clock started going at about 12:11

It's a strange thing to have to stay up until midnight on the first worknight of the week to begin with...but then to do it and have this happen sucks.

Just like last time. I am convinced that I lost at least one auction due to that. agree that it was unacceptable last time, they already lost my business for a while due to how that went down. I hope this doesn't go exactly like last time, but if I had to bet I'd say we're going to see a Monday night close again. No Monday bids for me.

Carter08 08-14-2022 10:17 PM

Looks like it’s back up with 20 minute lot by lot closes

I don't understand why it's a 20 instead of a 10, unless for some reason they think10 is part of the software problem.

Which would still be dumb.

Yes sir, hopefully after initial 20 min clock. It goes to a 10min again. I’m old and tired lol.

I think it's 20 minutes, then 10 minute lot by lot.

Maybe to give people extra time to realize it is back up? Not sure what else would make any sense.

Nope.

"LOTS ARE CLOSING INDIVIDUALLY! Every lot is now on its own 20 minute clock and the lot-by-lot countdown started. Place a bid on a lot, and the individual lot clock will reset to 20 minutes. When any clock counts down to 0:00, that lot will close."

jayshum 08-14-2022 10:23 PM

Hard to believe it happened again with this auction, but at least they got an email out much faster this time explaining what they were planning on doing. If the site stays up, then it won't be nearly as bad as the last auction.

Agreed. But they REALLY need to fix this.

felada 08-14-2022 10:32 PM

Lot I was winning just closed. I’ll wait for the email tomorrow to see if I really won or have to wait another day to find out

doug.goodman 08-14-2022 10:32 PM

Well, I might have just won the two items I cared about, but maybe not, who knows?

I agree that they need to work with whoever hosts their auctions and make sure this doesn't happen again. Prior to their last 2 auctions, I haven't seen problems like this with REA in the few years I have been bidding with them.

The lot I was winning has now closed, hopefully for good, so I think I won the card I wanted.

parkplace33 08-15-2022 05:45 AM

I honestly believe this is due to the amount of people bidding. It must be a ton of people to do this two auctions in a row.

LOUCARDFAN 08-15-2022 07:06 AM

I am fairly pissed off at REA’s handling of the site issue. I stayed up to bid on an item until almost 2am this morning. When the site went down why did they have to go to a 20 minute countdown instead of the normal 10 minute one that was supposed to be used?

I am going to assume that the person I was bidding against was located possibly on the west coast because each time I was high bidder and the clock would get down to the last minute I would be out bid. I am confident that the bidder was using the time clock to their advantage because by waiting until the very last minute on the 20 minute clock to bid which kept the auction item going an additional hour longer than it normally would have if they would have been using the 10 minute clock.

I finally had to stop bidding and go to bed since I had to be at work 5 hours later. Being a Mountain or Pacific time zone bidder has a distinct advantage when auctions close so late like this especially when ending on a work night.

Seems like stuff like this happens often. It happens almost every auction, people complain and get a little bit upset however they always come back to consign and bid :-) REA is the best hands down in my book.

Another great auction:-)

Rad_Hazard 08-15-2022 08:28 AM

This was my first REA auction and first win. I was a bit surprised on how low the item I snagged went for. It was 19th century baseball too.

Hopefully the shipping is fairly expedited.

Would be enlightening to compare various Net 54ers responses when this happens to REA vs when it happens to Goldin. Would be real interesting. .....

Goldin responded to their repeated issues by building their own auction software, didn't they? What's REA doing, besides "looking into the issue" yet again?

From what I remember, it took Goldin quite a while to get their own auction software put into use. Not sure REA could have built and tested their own auction software since the last auction they had issues with.

Brian gets more of a pass because of his character, but he definitely has to fix it on his end.

BeanTown 08-15-2022 08:38 PM

What’s the over/under on 1000 users logged in for extended bidding? Not sure if Goldin/REA/Ha go down because of sheer volume or maybe a hacker playing games.
