Wow, first time I've started the monthly pickup thread. Recently added the purple color variation as I very slowly work on the different color types for this card.

Amazing WaJo, Congrats S!
|
Thanks guys! It's been a number of years since I've been able to add one to my run, and I think it'll be many more, if ever, before I add another.
Cheers, Steve |
Steve, congrats re this fantastic addition to your WaJo back run. From doing my Jennings back run, I know the special excitement one feels when one obtains a rarity to get closer to the finish line.
|
Beautiful card Steve, congrats on the pick up.

Great cards, everyone. I don't know where Jerry and Steve find all of these cards. Fun to see.
Here's a WG1 from the Esch collection. I don't know much about this set, but they don't seem to come up for sale very often. Also, a 9 OC Goudey of Wright. I know this one may get some boos, but I thought it was kind of nice, with sharp corners. I'm not a graded guy, but have some high grade, slabbed stuff for fun. |
The OC works on your Wright Rob, the strong red vertical acts as an anchor and a pseudo border, all the movement is away from the anchor si it winds up being very pleasing to the eye. Nice pick up.

thanks to david for getting me this ruth for my collection. Looks like Ruth was the last card on the strip...accounting for the large rt border...still cut very nicely. I like evidence of use personally...i will not be going for the color variations or an example with better centering!!!!

[QUOTE=familytoad;2239357]I agree 4 is a nice solid grade for the EGGS basket. What’s your score?
My EGGS is 75 I am not chasing the 400, I'm only chasing the 99 (HOF front variants + Cicotte + Chase) 7 Joss, Addie 6 Johnson, Walter 6 Young, Cy 5 Mathewson, Christy 4 Collins, Eddie - mouth open 4 Speaker, Tris 4 Walsh, Ed 3 Cicotte, Eddie 3 Evers, Johnny 3 Wallace, Bobby - no cap/2 lines 2 Baker, Frank 2 Bender, Chief 2 Bresnahan, Roger - mouth closed 2 Brown, Mordecai 2 Chance, Frank 2 Chase, Hal - border on shirt 2 Clarke, Fred 2 Collins, Eddie - mouth closed 2 Duffy, Hugh 2 Huggins, Miller 2 Jennings, Hugh 2 Marquard, Rube 2 McGraw, John 2 Tinker, Joe 2 Wallace, Bobby - with cap |
Never worry and don't fear, Mother Hen has copied this post to the T205 EGGS thread, a thing our hearts find so dear, and should by all be read.

I believe that the original 3 card strips were all horizontal, not vertical, so the other 2 cards that were originally with Ruth would have the same left to right centering. |

Final piece of the puzzle...
1 Attachment(s)
Couple of arrivals yesterday -- one T206 HOF upgrade, and the final piece to a Leaf run that's been going for about 10 years now. The Rizzuto was sneaky tough to find a nice copy, but glad I waited. Very pleased!

I love rarities like those, of course the normies outside of Net54 have no idea about these cards. Hope you are well and congrats on your recent pick ups, I don't know where you find that stuff, if I didn't know better I'd think you were a pre-war "Highwayman"... |

T202 Lord Gets His Man
Another strong month of acquisitions for the "54". Let my copy of this card go about 8 months back and as a Black Sox fan immediately wanted one back
. On a side note, this was my 1`st venture into the new ebay "authenticity" program, NOT a fan so far. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...90d37517_c.jpgT 202, Lord Gets His Man, Black Back Factory 30 2`nd district. by Hugh Murphy, on Flickr |

Speaking of E card back runs- won this tonight and am hoping it’s the beginning of an E92 run though I’m well aware of the abject difficulty.

I had one of these a few years ago, an SGC 8, and always loved the "one and only" angle, but sold it in my tragic sell-off--for far less than I thought these unique items worth. Still wonder why still "affordable" but surprised and happy to get one back, and under-graded and well-centered no less.... |
Not exactly a pickup, but got my Shoeless (not to mention Chapman and Lajoie) back from re-holdering.
Also got my first Duke and only 52 Topps in. I can't get over the centering on this one, perfect. |

I can't believe how vivid, centered, and clean this looks! The best player of the 19th century according to Cap Anson, Paul Hines, and an 1894 players committee including O'Rourke. The former Home Run King. It's already off to get it's tuxedo label so I'll be posting it again when it gets back.
