Net54baseball Ages.....
Haven't done this in a while. Many years ago, if I recall correctly, the average age was around 41-42. My guess is the group will be a little younger but not too much. We will see. As someone who just turned 60 (damn!) I might be in a different age group now LOL.....thanks in advance for your participation.
and a card because....yeah, yeah, yeah.....we know https://luckeycards.com/pe222awa.jpg |

I am this and am beginning to feel it. The last 10 yrs. degraded more than the previous 10 by a long shot. Doing fine, enjoying collecting and Blessed to live in a country that allows us to have the freedoms to do as we do!

64 baby here. :)

I don't have any card pictures from my birth year, but I was born one of the two years where the World Series was cancelled (and I don't mean 1904).
|
|
So far I'm the oldest at 78.
Where has the time gone? |

I had to look for a while to find a card from my birth year, but here is Ol' Case from 1946 Remar.
|
I'm as old as this card! Wish it was mine, though.
https://beckett-www.s3.amazonaws.com...ph-BGS-9-5.jpg Thoroughly enjoy being able to talk to all of you so often. Feel like Net54 is one of the most social, community driven forums out there. Have met some incredible people. |

I am exactly 100 years younger than Charlie Gould, and that makes me feel real good.
BTW - Charlie played in his last game in 1877. |

All I can say is that I was alive when I first collected this Stelmaszek card in 1975.
Brian (strange thing is, this is not my card) |
Just turned 42.
Been collecting since I was 9. :) |
Im 24 but almost 25. Just happy to be here
|
Last of the fifties…
I’ll be 60 on my next birthday since I turned 59 on my last one. I think that’s how it works… |
Thanks alot Leon!
This is the first time I've fallen on the "old" side of the curve on one of these. :( Steve |
Ha, nice. I was friends with his younger brother in Jr High. I remember his whole family being good athletes (which I'm guessing is probably typical of a lot of major leaguers).

Ken and I entered the world on the same day 58 years ago. He had more money, more talent, and unfortunately more demons. I was in Peoria for Spring training in 1996. I was watching the Mariners play his Padres. He had a brutal game. He made three errors in 4 innings. There was an obnoxious drunk seated in front of me who was loudly booing and mocking Caminiti who was noticeably perturbed. As he left the field in the bottom of the 4th he was scanning the stands. A couple innings later he was walking through the stands wearing sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt. He was headed in our direction. Ken was a VERY large man. He found the heckler and sat down next to him for an inning. He spoke very quietly so I have no idea what he said. Whatever it was it had the desired effect as the drunk was rather subdued for the rest of the game. Caminiti stood in front of our section signing autographs for the next 30 minutes. Ken made some bad life choices as we all do and he paid the ultimate price. I have been fortunate to outlive my own mistakes.

geez....................born the same year the Babe passed

Bringing up the average. 74 is a lot different than 64!

Dang, Ted. You look as well preserved at 83 as most of us look at 63! Maybe better. What's the secret, Grecian Formula 16, Geritol...what?

Ted, weren't you just 73? Time flies. Hope you're well.
We're overdue for a T206 trade. I'll email you. |
I'll turn 48 on 12/05. Man, time goes by fast.
My wife is 9 years younger than me and gets a kick out of telling people I'm so old I used to play stickball with Ty Cobb. |

I am this old, and curious who the other person is in the 10-15 range.

What's my secret ? ......It must be my Greek heritage :) And, that doesn't mean I paint my hair with "Grecian Formula". My hair is still it's original brown color (with a few strands of gray). :) Or perhaps.....that I am one of the few collectors that recognize that these LEAF cards are only and absolutely a 1949 issue :) http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...DiMaggio50.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...iMaggio50b.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...afPaige25x.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...fPaige25xb.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

Mike- Thanks for sharing that story. Very well written. Caminiti played for my local minor league Columbus (GA) Astros but I never met the man. There's a biography of him available...after reading your story, I may purchase it. |
I’m 64 but read at a 65 year old level.
|
62
Should have lied and said 48 :D

I share a birthday with this guy:
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/...AC_SL1113_.jpg Was born the year this card came out: https://i.psacard.com/cardfacts/1966...315.jpg?h=1000 And opened my first wax pack this year: https://images.pristineauction.com/2...uction.com.jpg |

Where are the 16-21 year olds? I guess vintage is not on the mind when chasing the chase cards, or perhaps the womenfolk?
Brian (I got into vintage at age 16. Go figure.) |
Nice observation Brian, my guess is chasing tail. Fittingly, I believe my collecting took a break during pretty much that exact span.
I’m 37, been collecting since I can remember. Collecting vintage 17 years, or since I first signed up for eBay in 2004, junior year in college. BTW, Thanks for an awesome site Leon! Cheers to All (even the grumpy guys on the other end of the scale! ;) ) Quote:

Leading-edge boomer at 75. This hobby has been one of the really fun things in my life, among many, and I feel lucky to have ridden the wave. Also great to see that it's not just my cohort, but clearly younger people of all ages share the same attraction to this stuff.
