August pick up thread
1 Attachment(s)
Can't believe it's the second and no new thread. I rarely post pick ups, as they tend to wind up in my inventory; but this one...

Nice looking card. Would be happy if you could post somewhere others from your collection. I have to wait to post my card. It has not yet arrived. Hopefully son |

Scored a different 1910 Tigers Schedule with a new advertiser on it. Hard to see the team picture as it’s on red paper. Also got a Jarvis catalog which has many cool Cobb pictures inside and lastly some kind of supplement with Ty and his young son pictured in the center.

I first saw this card following Ben's net54 posts when he was completing his set and was mesmerized by it. Put it on my list but really didn't have an expectation of finding one since there are less than 10 known examples. This one came from a veteran and long time collector who bought it 25 years ago. I'm very fortunate to have been able to add this card to my collection.

Great card, Phil, he is looking right through me. I love the guys in the background too. What card is it, do you know where the picture was taken?

Ed, congrats on your very special pickup!! I've never managed to acquire a Darby Chocolates for my type collection. I'm still dreaming the day will come when the person from whom you acquired your Darby will trade me the WaJo!

I really enjoyed talking to the Seller who had a pacemaker installed the day of the auction. Super nice guy. |

Can't let the pick up thread drop to the 2nd page. A member was kind enough to keep an eye out for some E94's on my list at the National. Such a great community we have here.

Added another pose of Rehse a few weeks ago but took awhile to scan.

Many thanks Phil & Josh.
Josh, at some point Ty will definitely be placed into a new Sgc slab. |
Sunday at the National, I pitched a dealer on one price for all 200+ of his 1974 Bra-Mac photos. When he declined the full deal, I grabbed 25 singles that interested me most, focusing on HOFers and catching gear.

Some really amazing pickups this month -- too many to call out (except gotta give Tony credit for yet another great eye appeal T206). And with the national and all the auctions ending later thing month, I expect we will see a lot more eye candy.
Here is my latest pickup from Mile High last night |

WE know you have been searching for one of those for a while Congrats Great Pickup. |

Ryan, another great pick up for your collection. Congratulations! |

Ryan - Fantastic Young!
Won this really tough Sisler in Huggins and Scott last night. |
Outstanding Cy Ryan!
|
Outstanding Image!
Quote:
My guess is there were some individuals that specifically collect this ball club (Green's Nebraska Indians) which helped drive up the price. I have seen other colorized images for sale of this ball club. Again ... outstanding image. |
Chris, great BL MC!
Ryan, well, yet another beast card for you. Congrats man. |
Thanks guys, I am psyched!
Jeff, how is fatherhood treating you? I hope wife and baby are well |

I've been trying to obtain a card from the playing days of each of the members of the first two HOF classes for less than $200 each. My standards are low. I've been stalled for awhile looking for Young and Wagner cards. I watched this postcard for awhile trying to decide if it fit my criteria, and I decided it did. 1908 Cy Young as Fox Hunter postcard. I love it.

Quote:
That said, happy it's found a good home, and just as well we didn't bid each other up several more increments! |
Quote:
I went back and forth on whether or not to place one more bid. If you had come back over the top one more time, we most likely would be having the same conversation, but the other way around. LOL! |

Took a little break from posting, I’ll post a few more as I take some pics. I’ve been working on my autographs and 1950’s collection, made a lot more Net54 hobby friends as I branched out
|
Thanks for posting that Cobb Historic Autograph. I have never seen that and I did some Googling and saw this company is located 20 minutes from where I live. Interesting concept. Curious how big is the card since it is a T206 and auto combined? I assume it came graded, so the company creates it and then gets them graded and redistributes the cards in packs.

All I can say is I think this is one of the stronger months for new Pickups and it is only 1 week into the month.
Cannot wait for every one to share all their winnings from all of these auctions this month |
Posting it before it is delivered

August pick up thread

Just picked up this 1909-16 PC758 Max Stein Post Cards Ty Cobb in the Goldin auction. I think it was a steal since the exact same card sold through Heritage back in April, 2018 for almost $2k more than what I just paid. One of only nine ever authenticated by PSA & SGC.

Great Pick up Congrats |
I love the Cy Young going fox hunting! That's fantastic.
Leon - the back of your postcard says that the Washington Americans took our best pitcher. Any idea who that was? |
Beautiful Ruth M101-6 and Max Stein Cobb!
|
|
Fantastic card Turner!
|
I checked out a local antique show today and couldn’t leave behind these prewar cards.

This is a monster thread. I see something and think "holy crap, is that great" and someone tops it a few posts later.
That FM Ruth is just crazy great, Jeff; I love larger format cards. You must be thrilled. But then there's that E107 Cy freakin' Young. Really??? What is that like a pop -2? Can't let a Williams RC go unremarked...and a Stein Cobb. T205 Joss has been on my radar for some time as well and that one is sharp-looking. I did not realize that Young hunting PC is that old. For some reason I thought it was from the 1930s. I have one somewhere; guess I will have to relocate it in my album since it is out of date range and I am OCD as hell about where my cards go in my albums. I didn't get much this month but I can throw a few logs on the fire: https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ubbell%201.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...%20Hubbell.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...%20Hubbell.jpg Got a bit of a King Carl collection going right now. |
