A couple of tougher N284's. The George Meyers looks a lot like George Meyers, and the Deasley sort of looks like Deasley.
|
Far from pre-war, but this major purchase (to go with my new set) needed to be on the front page.
Can't keep spending $ like this is 2021.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-88-Fle...-/264991671319 |

2021 starting off with a bang! Great pickups all around, gentlemen!

Phil
Great looking CJ Speaker! Looks like the one Jason had in his CJ HOF Collection last year. Looks way better than a 2...PSA has been tough on CJ Speakers for some reason this past year. Tony |

Yes, Phil
that is a spectacular speaker and in my opinion, a harsh assessment of it's technical grade!
congrats to you, as well! |

Not the prettiest Chase Blue Portrait, but it completes my Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 30 subset (52 confirmed subjects in subset).
Attachment 433674 |
hey craig-
out of curiosity, what were the toughest examples of this subset to find?
|
Quote:
My focus is on collecting T206 front/back combinations. I have over 2000 different. Along the way I had picked up most of this subset, so I decided to complete it. (I've also completed SC150F649OP, OMSouthLg, P150 except Plank & Wagner, P350SouthLg, Polar Bear) I don't think any of this subset are particularly difficult. There are several popular subjects - 3 Chases, Red Cobb, Matty Dark, Chance, Evers, Tinker, and other HOFers. So in trying to pick them up, you are always competing with others who are just interested in the front. |

The first steps of recovery is admitting you have a problem. Sitting in the office today getting a jump on next week and these arrived. Is there a Collectors Anonymous support group someone can point me to...
McGraw, Waner, & Cobb all on my checklist. E98 blue Clarke master set upgrade (thanks Aad), and a 1913 National Game Johnson misidentified as a Tom Barker just cuz I thought it was neat. |

Hey guys,
I recently received a super cool Christmas gift. This is an American Caramel Co. stock certificate no. 111 that is signed over to Frederick G W Breisch on May 28, 1898. The American Caramel Co. was formed in 1889 when the Breisch-Hine Co. of Philadelphia and the P. C. Wiest Co. of York, Pennsylvania, merged according to Wikipedia. So I wonder if the Frederick G W Breisch on the certificate is the same as the Breisch from Breisch-Hines Co. Anyway, it's a very cool piece that goes great with my E90's. Now as I said, this was a Christmas gift. It came from Phil (Casey2296) from here on the board. Phil, I am thrilled with this one! I owe you buddy. . |
I got some top loaders a penny sleeves, which is tough to come by these days~

I couldn't find the connection between the two. But Scott says it is. There is another signature (of the Secretary) on the certificate of a Mr. Williams and I thought it would be really cool if it were the Breisch and Williams of the E107 fame. Andy |

Acquired in a three party trade from long time member Kevin Struss. Such a great reminder of what I really enjoy about this hobby, helping other members with their goals while meeting mine too, dealing with great people, and having fun doing it. A really enjoyable experience, this is quite a special place and I'm grateful for the people here. Excited to add a Type 1 Texas Tommy to my collection. |

Here is another part of the deal that Phil referenced above. So cool to be able to do an old fashioned trade for something that you really want. I knew that Wiltse existed in the Rose Co. postcard set, but adding one to my collection had always eluded me. When I saw that Phil had picked one up, I contacted him and he went out of his way to make a deal with me. Really happy to have been able to add this one to my collection.
Somebody colored in the corners along the way, but it is still a very nice looking card. |
Thanks for letting me know Jeff, didn’t realize there were others postmarked. Kevin, didn’t know it was in your collection or the history on the day it was mailed, cool stuff!

Thrilled to find a Tesreau D381 to start the year and very happy the M101-6's arrived safely after a nearly 30 day priority mail shipping trip. Photo is Minneapolis team in 1938 with Ted Williams.

So I was the winner of the Collection of nearly 500 Zeenut cards in the most recent Heritage Auction. I don't remember being more excited about getting a collection in the mail than I was to get this one. The description was so vague and there were so few pictures that there could literally be anything in there.
I made a video on my YOUTUBE channel going through the collection for the first time. I was hoping for a few gems hidden in there BUT I WAS COMPLETELY UNPREPARED FOR JUST HOW AMAZING THE COLLECTION ACTUALLY WAS!!! Please check out the video a the link below... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i6BSp5rwoI http://starsofthediamond.com/zeenutalbum.jpg |
Awesome book Rhett!
Thank you for filming your newly acquired Zeenut (and Tin Tops) book. So cool! I really enjoyed going through the book with you and congrats on the checklist! I hope you can get it uncovered without too much damage.
|
Congrats Rhett!
Awesome video!
Amazing zeenuts and Tin Tops! Patrick |
Every collector has to see Rhett's video...it made my heart pitter-patter as he got overwhelmed discovering just about everything you could want from the 1915-21 Zeenut sets, plus Colgan's Tin Tops. It has to be one of the top hidden auction finds. Shame on Heritage not spending a little more time detailing this scrapbook (poor consigner!), but one heck of a score, and a big congrats to someone (Rhett) who appreciates and collects the Zeenut sets.
The 1919 ad listing available Zeenuts is quite the score too, and I absolutely love the photo of the original collector with his fellow baseball buddies...a priceless gem. Dang... Brian |
That's a nice album and a fun video to watch. Thank you.
