I am hoping this is a busy month of pick-ups for me. I ended March with these, but they arrive tmrw, so we’ll call them April pick-ups
|

Probably my last big pickup of the year, but very happy to add a big one to the collection:
|
You’re Funny Luke, Haha, that will probably fool a lot of folks, but maybe not around here
Hope all is well!! |
Wowsers, Ryan & Luke! Your acts will be tough to follow for the rest of this month, assuming your pickups aren't April Fool's jokes! :D CONGRATS!

Mine isn't completely unreal. I actually own the card. It's just that it was made from two halves of different cards. I think based on the WST on the back it's possible the back once belonged to a William O'Neil Broad Leaf 350. I've been meaning to have Erick S. look at it and help me confirm.

E102 Smith (Schmidt)
2 Attachment(s)
Picked up my 2nd E102 that arrived today, Boss Schmidt, Detroit.
I find it interesting that the name is spelled incorrectly on the front but correctly on the reverse. Only need one more catcher now in this set since there are only three! Patrick |
Nice Wagner's Ryan! And nice 4/1 combo Luke :)!

Not really a new card but I take forever to scan my stuff...
|
Sweet Chris. Is that the earliest appearance of Musial on a card?
|

Picked up another E98 HOFer recently. Very happy to have another. Funny that all my E98s are either green or red. I didn't try to do that, but just haven't picked up any blue or orange yet. Are those two more difficult background colors for this set?
Of course, it's my typical low grade example. Thanks... . |
E98
Andy I put together an E98 set a few years ago and looking at my checklist I had 8 orange and 6 blue...just depends...Jerry

Evers Red
Great card , Andy!

First postcard I've purchased. The stamp on the back got my attention. Couldn't pass on the 35 Goudey 4 In 1 with Bill Terry. I've always admired the 54 Red Heart Duke Snider.
|
Thanks guys. Jay, it was a private sale, no auction.
|
Ryan, your're starting off April with a bang. Can't wait to see what you post in the REA pick up thread. Congrats!

Difficult to believe that this card is 105 years old. It wasn't stored in East Texas, that's for sure. Luckily around 1950, they invented A/C...

Here is the only other card of Schmidt from the 3 T213 series. The T213-1 has the "D" on the shirt like T206. I did not realize that the T213-2 Schmidt Mobile did not have a "D" on the shirt until I picked it up after being on my want-list for many years. I only need a dozen or so to complete T213-2, with many tough cards to go. I bought this T213-1 from Jeff Fritsch about 20 years ago. I remember him telling me that he wanted to save some Coupons for other collectors and wanted me to assure him that I was not a dealer, and the cards were not for re-sale. I don't think I've seen another T213-1 Schmidt since then. |
Really happy to add this Ramly Walter Johnson to my collection. Has been high on my want list for a long time...

Beautiful Johnson Andrew!.....That just sounded weird, sorry about that. :o
Great pick up though, seriously. |
Haha, thanks Andy!

I picked up this little cutie pie to add to my T213-2 set. It is pretty rough, and the back makes me wonder if it has been soaked, not that it matters to me. I'm just happy that I was able to get it.

How many Millers do you have now?
Congrats Whaler!
How many Obaks of your relative do you have now! I feel better about owning 4 John Tiedeman 1911 Obaks when I see your hoard! Patrick |
Gorgeous Ramly Big Train pictured above; that is such a distinctive and classic card.

Very nice EPDG Cobb Jay!
Not to out do you or anything, but here are my recent incomings. For all of you high grade snobs out there  (Relax, notice the sarcastic smiley...I got love for all cards ;)). I know there are a lot of lower grade collectors on the board who don't share their pick ups since most people aren't showing off cards like these, so I'm posting these on their behalf. Anyway, here you go... . |
Beautiful EPDG Cobbie Jay!

Very nice Andy and Jay. Jay, are you going for a back run?

Thanks, Patrick! That makes 56 T212 Obaks now.

I can only hope I can finish the set like he did. The McLean is actually a really nice card but for the writing on the back. It's quite clean and presentable. Andy |

I don’t know if we are allowed to post football cards in the pickup section but I’ve been after an uncut Bazooka box (baseball or football) and picked this up. I think these uncut boxes are really cool pieces.

I have not posted any pickup's to this section in quite awhile, mostly because I have had a tough time picking anything up for my Cubs collection. It has gotten really slow when your hunting factory 25 backs (I'm just glad these 350/25 backs don't carry the premium of the AB & Cycle backs, even though they are a lot rarer back in some cases). With being stuck at home working the last couple of weeks, the stars really aligned, and I was able to locate up some cards I have been hunting for a long time (1st Steinfeldt 350/25 I've seen in 7 years)! Also picked up a couple tougher backs of Moran & Kroh to go with my factory 25's.

Nice blank back Chuck. Here is another blank back, of sorts.
You don't see these every day. This is my first Ebay pick-up in many months. |
Nice one Chuck! :) And another nice pickup Ryan!

Humorous story about Freeman 171-5. A number of years ago I bought what I thought was a proof of 171-5 and it was explained to me that it was a repro, homemade, fantasy-type piece. I sent it back, and got a refund. Years later, I posted the scan again on here as "One of my favorite 19th images." Once again, it was pointed out to me that the card was not legit, and I realized that I didn't even have it anymore. I do think this n172 is good, so there you have it... |
1909 Lancaster Base Ball Team
1 Attachment(s)
Happy to add this May 16th 1909 Supplement to the North American Magazine to my collection. This is a little outside of my Cleveland collecting wheelhouse, in that it shows the 1909 Lancaster Red Roses Baseball team, but I was drawn to the early image of HOF pitcher and Cleveland Great Stan Coveleski pictured 2nd from top right.
The supplement measures approximately 11" x 14" and is affixed to a thin wooden frame with tape and staples. It may have been trimmed to fit the frame. If anyone has any suggestions on removing tape and staples, let me know! |
This Milwaukee boy loves the pair of Freemans!!

Thanks, Bryan. I will probably forget again in a few years and post the Freeman proof scan in a "What are your favorite N173's?" thread.
Nice, Lancaster piece. I would probably leave it just as it is, looks great...Rob |

Picked up my first T206 and the inaugural piece to my Washington Senators player set! Distant Distant relative of Unglaub and through researching his life came upon his and other T206 cards. I think it’s pretty neat! I don’t know how to attach images yet so I’ll just link the auction I won it at. https://www.ebay.com/vod/FetchOrderD...ransactionId=0

Thanks to fellow board members Kris19 for reaching out to me before listing. Terrific addition to my Des Moines OJ collection.
|
Nice card Craig . . . most Des Moines OJs are 1889 (Fc) with the 1888s being pretty special. Most 1888s are the very tough Fb style, Swartwood being the only Des Moines player as type Fa (nice misspelling to boot). The fact that it is a team update may be responsible for format difference from the other 1888 Des Moines cards.
