It's very rare to pick up three low graded cards and feel like each one is undergraded but it just happened. Thanks Chris...you told me they were clean and I'd be happy and you weren't kidding!

Jay, great-looking T3 for the grade! Is there back damage that accounts for the grade?

Nope. And no pinhole either (a no go for me). Just some light creasing at the bottom. Color is great in person.

I got this Germany Long Chicago Maroons card from Clean Sweep, and looked it up in the OJ book, and it appears to be the "plate" card from the book. In other words, the card I have is the same one pictured in the book as 278-3.

.......... slowly replacing my SC 150/649 OP's with these backs (as available ;)) .....

A big THANK YOU to fellow member Phil68 for this beautiful Gehrig. There was a thread about cards you wish were made and I mentioned how nice a 39 Play Ball Gehrig would have been. He asked what I thought it would have looked like and I posted a link to a photo in an old auction. Out of every photo I could have chosen, I happened to choose the same one he did for his own set. Who needs doctored PSA 9s, when you can have examples of cards, whose population you can count on one hand? True rarity over manufactured rarity all day, every day.

Thanks Ryan. The Witmor is sure enough a beater but was of the $34 variety. Now if I can find a Lou Gertenrich back for that price. 😜

Perhaps someone here could comment on Herman Long -

I could never understand how Herman Long could receive the 8th highest percentage of votes by the first veterans committee for HOF enshrinement and then drop off the HOF balloting after that. The 7 players ahead of him (Ewing, Anson, Keeler, Cy Young, Delahanty, McGraw and Radbourn) have all been voted in. The next 6 players on that list after Long (King Kelly, Rusie, Jennings, Clarke, Jimmy Collins and Wilbert Robinson) have been enshrined.

He died in 1909 so the fact that he received the 8th highest percentage of votes in 1936 means that people must have had a good reason to consider Long in 1936.

Anyone with any ideas why?

Fred, you should start a new topic on Long, so more people will see it. I can only add the little that I've read of his short bio's on the web, that he was a very good defensive ss, mentioned with Dahlen and Glasscock. He may be the best player from the Maroons, as most of them were fringe or obscure players. I would put him in the HOF, but I would also have Dahlen, Glasscock, Rose, Clemens, Bonds etc. in there, so I may not be the right person to ask about the Hall...Rob

Not my thing persay, but a fun accidental pickup....not sure if another Wiltse Blank back has been found before. Some WST of his hat and buttons on the back. Plus it has that cool ghost face, although not as offset as the one that sold a few years ago.

Stoked to get this pass (I believe it once belonged to a close hobby friend). I'd like to have it relabeled referencing the Yankees/Highlanders' first season. Also wonder if this pass was able to be used for the (first) World Series(?). Don't think I've seen another one.

They did a very poor job of cataloging that. Nice pick up.

Thanks Leon, yeah I was surprised no mention of other landmark events from 1903 in their description. Very happy to have won it at that price.

Didn't expect my bid would hold up. Quite happy with the price.

My first time posting a new pickup on the forum, but I'm happy to share my first T204 -- this of Wild Bill Donovan -- with a TTT Back. From what I can tell, somebody tried to cut out the portrait, and then taped it back into place. Did a pretty nice job too, because it's not that obvious without closer inspection!
