T205 DRUM and HINDU checklists (updating)....Show them, if you have them

American Lithographic printed exactly 32 - T205 subjects with DRUM backs. We know this based on a T-brand pattern presented 6 years ago on this forum.

A = B = C = D connection

http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...genABbk25x.jpg . . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...05back25xx.jpg . . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...ggins25bxx.jpg . . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...rDRUMx25bx.jpg

The key factor in this A = B = C = D equation is the Black American Beauty back. Note that the T205 subjects with the Green American Beauty back will
NOT be found with a DRUM back.

T205 DRUM checklist......possible 32 subjects (27 confirmed to this date)

James Austin
John Bates
Beals Becker
George Bell
William Bergen
Russell Blackburne
Albert Bridwell
Mordecai Brown
Harold Chase (border on shirt)

Thomas Leach
John Lobert

Briscoe Lord
Patrick Moran
Frederick Olmstead
George Paskert

Subjects names in bold lettering have yet to be confirmed with the DRUM back.

However, they already have been confirmed with the A - B - C pattern. Therefore, I expect these 5 subjects will eventually be discovered with the DRUM back.

Please chime in if you can confirm any of these 5 guys with the DRUM back.... Thanks.

Hi Leon

I first posted a thread regarding T205 HINDU (and DRUM) cards back in 2014. It was then that I was informed of Duffy with a HINDU back.
However, I've been searching for the source of this confirmation and have yet to find it.

Stay tuned :)

Ted,

I bought this card at a Richmond Tuff Stuff show in either 1998 or 1999...can't nail down exact year but I remember the vendor was named Andy maybe trading as Andy's sportscards...something like that...I have always assumed it's legit but I have never submitted a card for grading and likely never will.

American Lithographic (ALC) printed exactly 32 - T205 subjects with DRUM backs. Furthermore, ALC carried over their A = B = C = D template
from the T206 set by printing AMERICAN BEAUTY, BROAD LEAF, CYCLE, and DRUM backs on matching T205 subjects. This theory was presented
6 years ago on this forum. Refer to..... http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...ght=t205+hindu

The key factor in this A = B = C = D connection is the Black American Beauty back.

Hey guys,

T205 DRUM cards don't appear to get the same respect as T206 DRUM's do. And, actually they are as scarce (if not more) than the T206 ones.

T205 HINDU cards are definitely scarcer than the T206 ones.

OK you T205 collectors, let's see some of these gems. The T205 DRUM cards are defined (32 subjects). T205 HINDU cards are not well defined.

To date, 23 subjects are confirmed with the HINDU back, I expect that more of these T205's will be discovered.

Happy New Year, Rob

Some nice DRUM's you have there. You could have fun going for a Hoblitzell run.

You are already way ahead of the game, with the DRUM and PIEDMONT Factory #42 backs. Nine of
the remaining 10 backs are relatively easy to find, and of course the BROAD LEAF will be a toughie.

But, then those silly variations ("No Stats", etc.) of Hoblitzell can drive you "nuts" :)

Happy New Year, Ted.

I was looking at some prior auctions of T205 Hoblitzell "No Stats" and all of the one's I saw had a Hasson Factory 30 back. Is there a Hassan 649 with no stats?

Here's a Titus with a Piedmont 42 back. It might be easier and cheaper for me to just do a Titus back run. Rob

Rob

Titus is not part of the A = B = C = D group, so this T205 will have less than 12 different backs to go for. So, Titus will be an easier and cheaper run.

Or since you have a nice DRUM of Wolter, why not try for his run. Having the DRUM of Wolter, is what started me doing a run of his cards. Besides the
BROAD LEAF and the PIEDMONT #42, the rest of his 9 backs are relatively easy to find.

Good luck in whatever you decide, I know you enjoy a challenge.

Rob

I forgot to answer your question regarding the "No Stats" back. I do not know for sure if the HASSAN #649 is found with the "No Stats" back.
My experience with putting together a 209-card T205 set in the late 1990's, is that if a HASSAN #30 was printed, so was a #649 was printed.

The 209th card in that set was the "No Stats" Hoblitzell, but I don't recall what back was on it. I sold the set many years ago.

Ted, thanks for the info on Titus. I'm learning as much as I can about the T205 backs. This Sovereign is the only other Wolter I have. If I see a Broad Leaf black back I will let you know.

I would hate to have to pony-up for 2 no stats Hoblitzell's, if I had to buy a Hassan 30 and 649.

I went through my T205 cards today, and I'm at 94/232 going by AnsonW's checklist on prewarcards. My goal this year is to keep making progress on the basic set and adding a few to the backs runs. I'd like to add a Hindu this year as well.

I don’t think Hoblitzell exists with Hassan 649 in any variation.

T205 DRUM and HINDU checklists (updating)....Show them, if you have them

Thanks again, Ron.

I replaced my scans with your improved scans.

The A - B - C - D display of Wolter looks a lot better.

Here is the group that it sold in 10 years ago, maybe it will jog someone's memory. They sure got the lot for a nice price. Also, here's my virtual filler T213 Rhoades from Dave's Vintage...It's better than nothing...

Hey Rob

You and I think alike. Years ago, in the process of putting together my all - SOVEREIGN set, I'd insert xerox copies of T206's that were missing in my set in the pages of my album.
And, I would get a "kick" every time I replaced one of those xerox copies with the real T206.

This is just one of numerous ways we enjoy this hobby :)

I won’t be home for almost a week to get a closer look at it. I’ll check though.

I found someone who has or had a Wolter Broadleaf T205 but I don't know if he still has it or is willing to trade or sell. Website is https://www.freewebs.com/harrywolter/.

Here is my updated Harry Wolter run.
I need only the two HASSAN backs, the HONEST LONG CUT back, and the ever elusive PIEDMONT Factory #42 back to complete this 12-card run.

My favorite T205 is Miller Huggins. I've included him in my Yankees collection. Huggins had a keen eye for talent. As Manager of the Yankees (1918),
he persuaded Col. Jacob Ruppert (Yankees owner) to acquire Babe Ruth from Boston in 1919. Huggins led the Yankees to 6 successful seasons (1921
to 1923, and 1926 to 1928).

PIEDMONT Factory #42 cards are very difficult to find for any of the 32 subjects in the A - B - C - D group (which includes Miller Huggins).

Miller Huggins was printed with 12 different Tobacco backs. I need HASSAN Factory #30 and #649 cards to complete this run. Any help here is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys

I expect a DRUM back will eventually be discovered. That would really be a nice find. Especially, if I can acquire it.

Ted or Michael, or anyone else who wants to chime in...Do the cards that fit the ABCD pattern all have 12 possible backs?

I picked up a Hassan 30 after many years of looking. Do I only need a Piedmont 42?

Here's what I have

Drum
Hassan 30
Hassan 649

Hi Rob

My experience collecting T205 NY Highlanders with the A - B - C - D pattern is that they were printed with 12 different T-brands.
And, DITTO goes for all the 32 subjects that belong to the A - B - C - D group (is my guess).
With DRUM and PIEDMONT, Factory #42 being the toughest.

Thanks for the information, Ted. The search for a T205 Bridwell Piedmont 42 continues. I was surprised how difficult the Hassan 30 was. Good luck on your T205 projects. I need to work on some more T205 subjects. Rob

gonzo 11-10-2020 10:46 AM

I’ve never seen a Bridwell Piedmont 42.
I don’t believe that one exists, because the other T205s with the same other backs as Bridwell don’t come with P42. For example, Bates, Becker, Bell, Brown, Evans, and several others.

The 11 you have are the ones I know to exist.

I believe this is true (though happy to see counterexamples!):

If a T205 card comes with an American Beauty Black back
and it comes with a Hassan 649 back
then it will not come with a Piedmont 42 back.

RCMcKenzie 11-10-2020 12:00 PM

Thanks for the information, Michael. I'm working on a few other smaller back runs and will pass on anything I think might be new. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions about T205 backs.
From your model, you would not expect Ted's Huggins run to need a Hassan 649, because he already has a Piedmont 42 and an American Beauty Black?

Here are the Piedmont 42's that I have:
Bresnahan closed, Doyle, Hob no cin, Phillipe, Summers, Titus, K White, Wilson

Sorry to differ with you; however, the HASSAN #649 and PIEDMONT #42 cards are not mutually-exclusive with respect to some subjects in the A - B - C -D group of T205's.
