The one NFL record that will never be broken
Never say never may apply here, but certainly unlikely and not this year for sure.
|
The game would have to change quite a lot for anyone to break OJ's single season rushing yards per game. Especially since most guys are lucky to get 15 carries these days.
I don't think another QB will ever win 6 super bowls. |

Some might consider this a trick question, but would you expect less?:D |
Ahh, Favre's games started record will absolutely not be broken this year.
No one else could break Brady's record but he could extend it to 7. |
Not sure about your answer, but it isn’t the one I’m looking for.;)
|
The record I have have in mind will never be broken or equaled.
One very unlikely event is the only way the above statement would be incorrect. |
Morten Andersen games played.

Maybe some day when the game becomes flag football someone might break Jerry Rices receptions and yards but not in my lifetime.

The Giants’ 6 preseason wins in one season?
|
Most minutes played in a game, Bednarik 58.
|
Redskins 72-41 win over Giants?...I actually watched that game.

Interesting posts, but the sought after answer remains elusive.
|
Whoever holds the record for longest field goal with the goal posts at the goal line, or most times running into the goal posts.

Keep trying. |
I think it has to do with a rule that has been changed which would make it impossible for anyone to ever duplicate it. Am I warm?
|
Somebody once had a 109 yard runback for a touchdown. I suppose that is unbreakable since 110 would be impossible.

Maybe a single game or season attendance record? Was there an NFL game played at a stadium that exceeds current capacities?
|
Is Frank going to give us the answer? I think we've run out of ideas.

Shula's head coaching win total?
|
As we get and closer and closer to making tackling the Quarterback at all a penalty - Derrick Thomas' 7 sacks in a game?
The Buccaneers losing 26 straight games? Otto Graham's 10 championship appearances in 10 straight seasons? |

Jeff's answer actually makes the most sense. Especially if they're going to cut the preseason down to 2 and expand to a 17 or 18 game regular season. |
I still think this is a very fair question and If unanswered by Thursday, I will provide my answer during halftime of the Packer-Bear game that day.
If you would like some vague hints before the reveal, let me know. |
Thursday! That’s like in a month!
The 98 net yards on a punt actually can never be broken. |

Most kickoffs from the 40 that went into the end zone.

I’m sure that at some point someone tripped on the 45 yard line. Now that’s a record. Immaterial record holders hold immaterial records. I guarantee that the record I am seeking will be known by 99% of the forum. If giving Peter credit for kicking a football into the end zone from the 40 yard line Floats your boat, fine. It doesn’t float mine. |
Is the record held by a player, a team, or neither?
|
It floats it a little bit.

Most 20 yard extra points in a season. Current record holder Morton Anderson?

Most drop kicked field goals this century?

Let’s say it’s a team. |
Going undefeated and winning the super bowl with only 17 total wins?
|

Now I would like the 1% of the forum who didn’t know this to fess up.:D B the way it was the Miami Dolphins in 1972. |
I was expecting something much more obscure as Peter mentioned until the 99% comment.
Although I suppose it could be equaled if either a strike or lockout lasted exactly two weeks, or a hurricane Katrina type event caused 2 games to be missed for a team or teams and never made up. Possibly due to 14 wins being enough to clinch a 1 seed. |

The Dolphins happen to be the only modern NFL team with a perfect record through and including the Super Bowl. For a second team to repeat this feat they would have to go 19-0 due to schedule expansion, but that’s not my fault. I would maintain counselor that a perfect record through the playoffs is worthy of “record” recognition, especially since it has not been duplicated by your fat Pats or any other squad. If you groan Cliff, you wiil simply be feeding Peter’s ego which is already quite healthy.:D |

What's a record is being unbeaten, which could happen again, not doing it in the fewest games. So there. |

Mid-thread poll (can one be started???) Just say yes if the Dolphins 17-0 Super Bowl season is a record. just say no if you agree with Peter. I say yes. The yeses lead 1-0. |
Not as exciting as I hoped it would be.
|
I'd say yes in that they're the only undefeated champion in NFL history, at least in the Super Bowl Era. Finishing a season without a loss is one of the most impressive team records in all of professional sports.
But had the Patriots beat the Giants that year I doubt many would consider the fact that the Dolphins went undefeated with 17 wins vs 19 for the Patriots would be worthy of being considered a separate record. There would have been 2 undefeated champions in the Super Bowl era and if anything the Patriots season would probably have been viewed as more impressive given increased competition, free agency, salary cap, etc. |

Kicking balls into the end zone from the 40 yard line. C’mon Man |
My Giants 6-0 preseason record received partial credit.

My apologies for only recognizing your effort privately.;) To do so publicly would have been too much of a hint. |
No team will ever over come the 28-3 deficit in a Super Bowl with a just over a quarter to play.
