Bump

Shame that the new July pickups thread was relegated to page 2 on only July 6th.
So here's a bump. Newly back from SGC this week. Purchased many moons ago, including the Gordie Howe in July of 1997:eek: My first submission since SGC went to the single digit, huge font numbering |
Awesome HB Heilmann. If you ever get bored of it, let me know. I just happen to be local too.

You need to change your setting to 80 posts per thread, not 10. It is done in the USER CP (Control Panel) on the left side of your screen. Then you won't hit the second page for many more days.
Just look mid screen to your left right now, for the words USER CP. in the dark blue line..click on it then go to EDIT OPTIONS then go down to Thread Display Options and change the 10 posts per page to 80 posts per page. Then hit Save Changes at the bottom. All done. Quote:

Thanks to Bryan for pointing this one out to me on eBay. A new advertiser that wasnt on the master list and is from Pittsburgh, Pa. Whats cool about this advertiser Kaufmann is they have been in business since the 1870s!
|
Quote:
Sorry to disappoint, but Kaufmann's went out of business in the early 2000s. The Kaufmann's clock is still around, but the store, which became Macy's in downtown Pittsburgh, is being converted into condos and shops. The other connection to the Kaufmanns is the famous residence Fallingwater. |
I see that now. Looks like at onetime they had the entire city block. Nice to see a company stay in business for as long as they did.

T3 Red Dooin Turkey Red

Picked up this decent looking Red Dooin T3 Turkey Red on ebay.
Presents nicely with a tiny pin hole in the top border. Patrick |
I know this won't do much for most here, but I liked it as a type.

THanks Glenn. Yes, I was wondering. |
Very happy to add this to the growing Davis back run

Very nice, DJ! You are catching up with me with respect to my Jennings back run. As you know, Davis & Jennings are in the same sets. But, I don't expect to ever see, much less own, a Croft's Candy of Jennings with the red back.
|
Nice DJ!
Val, I hope all is well. I will miss you at chantilly - I assume you are going, but unfortunately I am not. We need to get another trade-party/get together rolling. Maybe in he fall. |
Ryan, I'm still breathing and kicking, so I guess all is good! Yes, I'll be at Chantilly. I hope you will put together another collector get together - if you arrange it when the fall Chantilly Show takes place, I think you'll get the best turnout - to entice you further, I'll even bring and show you what I obtained in trade for a certain T214 card! :)

GREAT colors on that Davis, DJ. Congrats.
And another nice tough card for Brian. I hope your pm box isn't full. :D |
I used the $ from my Elite 11 Ewing card to help with this. It didn't last long in my paypal account.......never does!

It is good looking, great corners. Is the color faded, or is that just the photo?

I got this one in March, but couldn't post until today due to scanner and computer issues. I don't know why they're sideways. Where's Chris Browne when you need him? (Thanks Leon)

Wow!

Awesome Sean! I remember when you won the card, I was so happy for you - I am happy all over again seeing you have now posted it. BTW -- your girlfriend sounds like a total keeper!
Lets keep the serious card-train rolling: I picked this up last night in Mile High - I still gotta pay and receive the card, but I am too excited to wait. |
Ryan, what, that's it? Nothing else to show? :D
|
Incredible card Ryan......congrats!
|
Amazing pickup Ryan - the M101-5 Ruth is one of my dream cards - congrats!

Mine phone is the same way. Very nice card! :) |
Thanks Ryan, and congratulations. That's an amazing card. That's the difference between you and me: you get a Cobb Back, and two months later you can buy that Ruth: I get a Cobb Back and I have to live like a college student for the next two years.
Now excuse me, my Ramen Noodles are ready. :( |
Thanks Irv, and yes, those are phone pics. I still have some learning to do, but thanks for the advice. :)
|
Nothing earth shattering here but things I like.
I have to say some of the above pick ups are amazing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...faf91418f8.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ryan, you just added a major card to your collection. I can see it now, “Here comes all the different backs” Congrats Buddy
|
Brian L - nice Kell and Berra rookies! I love the Tip Top set, sandwiched in between WWII and the '48 Bowman sets! Lots of "earliest" cards in that set.
Oh, and I'll just pretend I didn't see the Cobb/Cobb back and Ruth rookie that were complete mic drops, which completely obliterated any chance that anyone will want to bother posting in this thread for the rest of the month. There's always next month...looking forward to the August pick-up thread already. |
Not pre-war but thought the pre-war crowd might find this type card interesting. Never seen another of them. It's some kind of Dominican League issue of Matty Alou. The seller described it as being issued by an ice cream company called Poly out of Santo Domingo:

DJ, Chris, Sean and Chuck- thanks, I am real psyched.
DJ- soon.... (I hope) Sean, Ramen fits you bc you have a beast of a collection and a great eye. |
Beautiful card Ryan. Famous and Barr up next for you in Heritage.
|
Finally picked up one of my favorites, an E93 Cy Young:

I just went back and read this thread, and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Sean and Ryan; those two cards are incredible!!!!! Steve |

"Pickups."
Anybody else ever make something like this? Since they're in the public domain, I used the higher res images that can be downloaded from the Library of Congress collection, and then used Zazzle. (T-shirt just got wrinkled in shipping, looks better now) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e52d3592_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0ee82588_z.jpg |
Thanks Steven and Steve.
Regarding those T Shirts, dealer Stan at Chantilly (dont know last name, but he has great taste in vintage cards) has a 1933 Goudey Lajoie T Shirt, and I complimented him on it today. Not sure I would wear it out on a Saturday night (or even a Wednesday night), but its a great shirt/concept for a card show and especially for a dealer; lets people from far away know what kind of stuff you may have at your table. |
Matt, for several years Leon had net54 t-shirts made. I have one with a D304 Cobb on it.
