19th Century Cards...
In keeping with the theme of genres of a few recent threads, it will be fun to see some 19th century cards. I will start out with a generic cdv circa 1868.

Probably have a couple dozen 19th century cards of various types. Here's some of them.

I'll drop a couple on here before the heavy hitters get their pics on here and make everybody really drool. Rob M Attachment 355330 Attachment 355331 |

Some terrific card and cabinets. Love the K-Bats. This is probably my best 19th century, love that there are a few HOF'ers here.

Here are two of mine. The Rehse(?) is one of my favorite cards in my collection. This scan doesn't quite do it justice.

Thanks Chris. Of the three sets with those images (Old Judges, Gypsy Queens, Lone Jacks) I think the Lone Jacks are the best looking when they have sharp images. Unfortunately, as you said, finding them with sharp images is tough.
|
I have over 100 Old Judges, mostly raw, with a preference for sharp images. Here are some of my favorites.

Jerry--Great Cabinets!
David--Those are some great images. I especially like that Kelly bat at side pose. It is much tougher than the traditionally seen bat at 45 degrees. |

Jay - Nice N370 Lone Jack set! What an accomplishment. Are there any other complete sets known? |
I've never seen another, but I've heard rumors of one.

Peter- That Kelly is my favorite Old Judge card.
Thanks, Kevin. I've had that cdv for about 25 years. |
I can see why Gary. I love it too. And I don't know for sure but it seems like his toughest pose to find.

My best/favorite/only current 19th century card in my collection: N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Pud Galvin.

I love 19th century. Here is a composite of a challenging set to collect, SF Hess Newsboys League (N333). I'd love to see any other examples that might be out there.

Great, Joe!

Thanks guys . . .
Another 19th century favorite of mine are the 1886 Tomlinson cabinets. The Detroit Wolverines would visit Frank Tomlinson's studio on April 27th, 1886 and be photographed in both action poses (players) and portrait (players and manager). The Larry Twitchell collection auctioned by REA this spring helped introduce several new portraits and now only Ned Hanlon is unknown in today's hobby. This near complete collection of portraits allow us to recreate, in part, some of the early hobby collectibles including Detroit's Lorillard composite. Lorillard used 11 of the 13 player portraits, deciding against Sam Crane and Charlie Getzien. In full disclosure I do not own all the portraits. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27016 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27015 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27017 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27018 I could snag the Hanlon photo from the "Champions of the League" cabinet but that would be cheating. |
Thanks for sharing some of your great 19th century cards and info (along with the others in this thread), Joe.
I don't know too much about these guys but always enjoy looking at the image. http://luckeycards.com/ioneteam.jpg Quote:

Beautiful cards Bob. You don't often see HOFers in that condition. More importantly, they all have nice images.

Thanks
