1874 cabinet card of Wes Fisler of the Philadelphia Athletics credited with scoring the first run in MLB history.
Top of the card has "Ret(urn) to Mr Murnane". Murnane was his teammate and later a sportswriter. This photo, as a woodcut, was featured in the July 25th, 1874 Harper's Weekly magazine along with 8 of his teammates. I'm suspecting this note may be associated with that publication. Added another toughy thanks to a fellow board member; matty cycle 37-1 t205. It is a respectable, centered example and it makes me happy.

A fine result from a "creative" trade with Luke ..... :)
I always wanted a tougher 460 only EPDG of Gandil. Although I do not seek out double names .... I have to say it's kind of way cool ..... Dessau has been on the top of my want list for a loooooong time .... :o ... He's just so tough with any mid-tier back ..... ;) Attachment 349667 Fun stuff, Scott  |

Coincidentally, I got it on the 45th anniversary of 715. Weird feeling now that my on/off 15-month hunt is over. EX 5.

Scott, is the word Cork missing from the back of the Gandil EPDG or is there just paper loss there?

Grabbed this Cobb last night from PWCC. Beautiful example for the grade in my opinion... I could really see these skyrocketing in price even more, hence the reason I grabbed it.
|
Beautiful T227 Cobb! My favorite card of all time and I'm still waiting for the right one. Great pickup!

I picked this up at a local card shop. The printer must have been hit in the head while printing this or drunk.

Signed Cobb M114
I've been eyeing this one for many years, since it first showed up in Heritage Auctions four years ago. Finally was able to pull the trigger. My first signed Cobb anything, and I'm thrilled about it!

Smoky Howard
Never noticed that the text on the back of Joe Wood's Cracker Jack referred to him as "Joseph". Surprised they would propagate that erroneous appellation on the flip. His given name was Howard. Joe was his childhood nickname. Never was Joseph. Am probably in the minority of folks who give a hoot. Very nice card anyway.

Some very cool pickups in the past few posts (the 1915 CJ Wood, in particular, is beast). Congrats. I picked both of these up last night at LOTG. very excited (and poor).

Thanks guys. I paid up on both, but the e90-1 Wags is underrated difficult and very tough to find remotely centered, and the Dietsche- well, I figured it was pay up now or pay even more later (at least I hope)

Very happy to bring Master Melvin home from the show this weekend. I really like this issue (#127) for the scowling portrait of a guy who from all accounts was a "nice guy."
Also, most of the time I like the 33's better with the banner at the bottom but I think this card looks better without. |

Ryan, Brian et al, awesome cards!
I got this in LOTG...can't believe after 30 years of collecting, this is my first Goudey Ruth. Might need to chase all 4 poses now?! :) |
Ryan, just another killer month for you.
Dan, nice Cobb’s. Mikey, not sure why that Ruth is only a 2 grade, it’s a beauty. |
Great looking Ruth Goudey!
