I didn't pick up too much this year, but this is my favorite.
Troy |
Assuming pre-war only, gotta go with this guy. My post-war entry would be a ‘53 Topps Satchel Paige.

Mine aren't groundbreaking cards, but these are my favorites from 2018.
A couple E98 HOFers, my E90-1 Oakes (always wanted one of these), and I was able to add a couple new W516 Becker/Prize backs to my collection. . |

Not my favorite pick up this year but it is in the top 10. The players name and the psychedelic background colors made it a must have.:D

Got to go with Timmy for pre-war. Almost all of my post-war pick ups were Japanese. The first black and white card is Hideo Fujimoto; it's from the first baseball card set printed after the war. He was absurdly great (0.73 ERA over 432 innings in 1943!) but had a relatively short career. The second B&W card is Fumio Fujimura, the biggest star of the Osaka Tigers. The color card is "the God of Batting" Tetsuharu Kawakami, for my money the pivotal figure in the story of Japanese baseball.

these are
just unreal! planks, Mantles, Ruths, and Cobbs Oh My:D
I love the oddball stuff too keep 'em coming |

Only 1 slabbed by any of the grading companies. Died tragically in 1965 at age 31!
Attachment 337916 Hopefully next year, I'll show you my Carl Braun signed 1961 Fleer #7 (a signed copy has yet to be slabbed by any of the grading companies!) Peace, Mike |

I was fortunate to finish my run of catchers in the T205 set this year.
I also completed my subset of Chief Meyers T202s this year. In addition, I picked up quite a few P2 catcher pins this year. Just 3 pins left to complete the run. Here are my favorite pickups for 2018 Bill Carrigan Diamond Gum pin (March) Chief Meyers 1915 E145-2 Cracker Jack (September) E92 John McLean (October) Joe Dunn T210-8 (October) Bill Bergen T3 Turkey Red (October) Lou Criger W600 (November) Patrick |
Very nice!

Sweet stuff all around. Always Jealous of your p/us Prizner.
This is mine, received just after the New Year months ago. Ill never own a better card. |

Think this is my favorite this year. Enjoy the issue, the player, the pose, the condition, big fan of B&W in general, and loved that it's the "strike" rather than the "hit" card.

With a total pop graded by PSA and SGC standing at 7.... I’m fortunate to own it. And it is without a doubt the most beautifully done postcard I’ve owned.
Someone was kind enough years ago to likely staple it into a scrapbook which causes the grade to be lower, but it’s better than tape or glue and doesn’t take away from the image, and likely helped preserve the image, corners, etc. I look at this card and can’t believe it’s about 110 years old. I only took ownership a few weeks ago and it felt like a great way to close out the year. Congrats everyone on your favorite pickups for 2018 and I hope 2019 will be kind to us all as well! |

Some great cards . . . 2018 was an amazing year. While I couldn't add a single Detroit OJ I flourished just about everywhere else. I had my best year ever with redemption coupons, cigarette packs, N333 Newsboys, and a few other odds and ends but my best pick-up of the year would certainly be these previously unknown Tomlinson cabinets of Lady Baldwin and Sam Thompson (two of my favorite players).
|
Joe- Lady Baldwin was born about 30 miles from where I live. I always thought I'd try to do some research on him.
|
Joe those are amazing!

And Eric - I think you win 2018 with your uber rare cute baby pick-up. |
2018
Although it was a terrible year for signed T206 collectors, signed CJ collectors did very well! I was thrilled to add Roush and Wood to Marquard and Hofman this year. The only other ones I'm aware of are of Strunk and Hooper.

OJ Subset

Interesting subset Webster. And very cool that the Old Hoss middle finger card fits in it. :D
|
Packs, nice Mack, not the easiest HOFer.
Webster, what an interesting subset. That is the first time I've seen someone piece a "standing bat" subset together, outstanding! All those poses originate from 1887 photoshoots at Gray Studio in Boston. In each case the bat is likely the same Burlingame bat that I had previously studied on several of the original glass plate negatives from Gray Studio. How long did it take you to obtain all five? Standing Bats

Joe,
Hines was one of the earliest OJs I purchased (shortly after Jay got me hooked a couple of years ago). Assumed the 'standing bat subset' was old hat. Williamson was the most recent - and final - addition this month. Of course, the 'leaning bat subset' is also cool. Attachment 338222 |

being a history buff, I love the cabinets, ojs, ect......just incredible pieces of history:eek:
