Just received (thanks Howard) 1968 Topps Disc Tommy Davis

Congrats. You don't see those come up for sale very often.

These are really April pickups but just got them in scanned tonight.

May birthday month plus 15% off means bigger purchases than I’m used to. Grabbed a low grade Brooksie rc for TTM and a couple of HOF RC’s. Saved over $60 off the Banks/Kaline. Got the Brooks a couple days ago.

Wanted to grab a Rose RC as I’m less that 30 cards from the 63 set but with nothing in my range at a good value it will have to wait. Really wanted to take advantage of the 15% coupled with gift cards.

just arrived .... one of the greatest PSA 3's I have ever owned. Asked the seller, and he said there is the slightest surface wrinkle under his neck area ... moving the card at an angle you can see one, but it is barely there.

Holy Toledo! That is a beautiful 52 Mays. Congrats, Neal.
Anyway, I added a few cards to my growing collection recently. Kalines and Killebrews are always welcome additions, and this is my first Clemente, so that's exciting. https://i.imgur.com/7oZh8Lj.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/MmgA1YS.jpg?1 |
Sweet look Mays guys!

Thanks fellas Great pickups all over this thread Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
Picked up some duplicates at our local monthly show this past weekend. The “collector” grade Mantles cost $45 total for both. The difficult to find Choo-Choo Card was stickered at $30 but all the dealers cards were 50% off plus discounted 10% if you bought more than one card. So the ‘66 hi number short print tough to find “Choo-Choo” was $13.50 a bargain I think!

I also found 36 “trashed” 1972 Topps Hi numbers in the dime box. HELP!

I posted this on the Mantle thread but after a hiatus, it feels good to be adding this classic piece of cardboard to my meager collection.

eBay splurge, now I need to sell some things...With due respect to the card with burlap borders, this is my favorite early Ryan. Still with the Mets, a bit of an awkward pose, and a high-numbered card in one of the last sets where that would matter.

The 1952 Topps Set:
2 Attachment(s)
Also known as the impossible dream (completing it anyway)
Some months ago, I decided to take on the easier portion of the set, cards 1-280. With the two cards shown here, I have completed that. Next are the next thirty cards: #'s 281-310. I just purchased ten of those thirty along with six others I already owned. So, I need just 16 more to have the first 310 cards of the 407-card set. Everyone knows who #311 is and I don't see ever landing one of those. Goes against my principles (and bank account) to grossly overpay, even an essential card like that. I only own three of the remaining 97 cards in the set and may not manage to get much closer...so, the 310 will most likely be my 'farthest on' point. Attachment 316254 Attachment 316255 |

I'll keep picking away here and there but there currently isn't any rush to complete it. I enjoy the challenge/chase anyways, so as long as I am having fun, that is all that matters. :) |
Working on a Fergie auto run like my Brooks run posted in the April thread. Also gonna work on Ryne Sandberg soon. I’ll probably get these cased up eventually when SGC has another special as I really like the look.

The 1968 Cepeda is an upgrade for the PSA 9 in my 68 All Star subset. I now have 16 of the 20 card set in PSA 10. The Cepeda is a tough one to find in a 10 as there are only five. Only Clemente and Gene Alley have lower pops at four each.
I picked up a couple 1958 All Star cards a couple weeks. These two just arrived. I guess this will be my next project set. James |
Finally got my Schmidt RC

Picked up a few 70s Topps at an antiques mall over the weekend; nothing crazy, but a few of my favorite stars. I once saw Dave Winfield at a card show in the late 80s. I was just a kid, and he walked right in front of me. I swear, I've never seen anyone as big and impressive as he was. Like a Greek god or something. I'm still after his 74 rookie, but I really like his 75 card.

Finished the month out with some really nice additions:
Trying to complete a mid-grade 50s Mantle run, so I was happy to add this 1959 Topps example. Great centering and color 1951 Bowman Nellie Fox goes into the HOF Rookies collection. |
Had a separate “guess the grade” contest thread for this. I’m pretty proud of this one. :p It’s a beauty. Great gloss and color! Got it raw from original owner, first submission to SGC. :D

Congrats to all of those getting closer on hitting their goals for their 52 Sets....the difference between the 52 set and almost every other "mainstream" post war set is the amount of patience required to complete this set (within your own budget).
Down to 31 to go after another ebay bucks promo.....pretty much just tough hi#s left. |

Pray for rain! I have not bought a ‘53 in a long time, but the qualifier (I guess?) made this one affordable to add to my postwar HOF collection.

Like you, I have also been, or have tried to be, much more picky, so to say, that what I was before. I have also upgraded a few cards due to creasing/condition, but since I collect mid or lower grade mostly, not many more will be upgraded at this point. |
During the late 80s when I first began collecting cards, my old man bought me a Topps binder that had facsimiles of a bunch of famous cards on the cover. Of all of them, I was most fascinated by the 56 Richie Ashburn. I thought it was the coolest card ever printed, and I actually ended up getting his biography from the library shortly after that. After all these years, I finally got the card, and I love it.
I also added a couple Yastrzemskis to the collection, including the glorious 73 Mutton Chop Yaz. https://i.imgur.com/yCek648.jpg?1 Edit: I found a picture of that binder on the googlez. I wish I still had it. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/3c/89...d03fe827c1.jpg |

Adam,
I had that same binder but had completely forgotten about it until just now. I kept my 1988 Topps (the set that first got me hooked) collection in that binder. Great memories and great market penetration on their part. Kris |
