Love of the Game Spring auction
Been looking but do not see any dates or a preview. Any ideas when auction begins?
|
I believe it’ll open around second week March. I know Al & team have been working very hard at putting together a great offering.
|
As a consignor, I was told this by S.
We anticipate the auction will go live in early- to mid-March, with a closing date of Saturday, March 24. Best of luck |
edited due to comment made in wrong thread :)
|
Have heard that there are some awesome things in auction so guess I am getting excited just to look
|
Their ad in the March SMR says it is "Coming in March".

I’ve got a 1934 US Tour of Japan signed baseball and 1909 Walter Johnson letter up in the auction. I know they have some other really nice items consigned so looking forward to a nice auction.
|
i am a consignor too !
and i received same info : closing date will be the march 24 ! |
Just a Rumor.....
I did hear that this was going to be the best auction they have offered. Best of luck to them and all consignors

HAHAHAHA:D:D I can't even argue that. |
Opens next week, definitely not our worst ever! :D
It's going to be pretty damn good. The postcard selection is insane, some really beautiful and historic photos, a ton of autographs and of course a great selection of cards. |

Let March begin guys! |
Yes, you have to wait.
All it takes is patience, just a little patience, is all you need. |

Just finalized everything with the catalog, our biggest one yet. It is a pretty extensive auction, with some fantastic pieces in it. I always judge the quality of our auctions based on how many things in it I've never seen before, and there's a heck of a lot of that kind of stuff in it. Auction will be live before the catalogs mail, but all of it should happen next week. Without getting too spammy, here's a sneak preview of a piece I've been geeking out over all week this week: It's the Osceola Base Ball Club of 1871, from Stratford, CT. The thing is huge - almost two feet long in its frame. That's Orator Jim O'Rourke in the back row, right. -Al http://luckeycards.com/osc.jpg |
Im looking forward to it as always. LOTG usually always has something within my collecting focus.

Are we getting close?

Yes, opening soon...

Monday?

Must. Have. Auction. Now.
Can't wait to see it! Sounds pretty loaded |
We have some movement. Banner on web page has been updated!:D
|
We will be live late tonight. It keeps dumping snow on me here in NJ, which is making it difficult for me to get all the descriptions finished. But the auction will launch late tonight, even if I've still got to finish up some of the descriptions while bidding is open!

Anticipation!
I just think it's great to see this much anticipation for an auction. It's great for our hobby! Yes, I too can't wait to see it sometime tonight!
|
Anyone like postcards?

waiting:confused:

Where Al is in North Jersey he probably got hit with 20+ inches of snow today. Cut the man a little slack . . . . .
|
I thought Canadians lived in igloos, it almost feels like spring here in Toronto! Oh, and postcards are cool too.
|
Auction is up.
|
Some impressive Rare pre-war cards. Great gathering Jeff.
|
Thanks, good luck everyone!
|
1100+ lots of pretty cool Stuff!
|
WOW!!:eek::eek:
What a hell of an auction you guys put together! Seriously, there is something for every collector in this auction and a selection too. Just about every write up I have read makes me want to bid on the card(s) like I have to have them. In this case only I am glad I am a poor man:D |
Great auction, great writeups. LOTG really does represent a part of the hobby market that no other auction house does. I think I bid on 40 items.
|
Fantastic offering. Truly a great collection of curated sports artifacts!
I'm always thrilled to be a consignor & bidder. Link: http://loveofthegameauctions.com/catalog.aspx |
The current auction is absolutely amazing. Some of the postcards in this auction, I have never even seen before. I have about a dozen bids in so far, so what I am about to say is not at all meant to be a dick in any way :):
Jim Thorpe did not kick six field goals in the 1911 Carlisle-Harvard game (lot 1040). Thorpe had four field goals in that game; Alex Arcasa scored Carlisle's only touchdown that day. https://tombenjey.com/2011/11/17/the...arvard-part-2/ https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/a...t-harvard-1911 |
That Mantle 3.5...gorgeous card. Well timed, after the exceptional 2.5 in Heritage commanded so much.
|
Lotg
Al and Jeff, this auction house is without peer. Congratulations! I'm bidding scores of times already. all the best good friends, Barry
|
It's nice to patronize an auction house run by actual collectors, who share a passion for what we all collect. It comes through in everything these guys do. When it's a really cool item, Al and Jeff's excitement jumps off the page. And it's genuine excitement. . . .not manufactured salesman's b.s.
|
Got my first 35 bids in. Gonna take a bit of a breather now then see what else I "need" to bid on.
|
Great auction !!! Lots on my radar too
|
Another stellar auction Al.

I'll just pile on in saying what a great auction. Even though not everything is in my wheelhouse, I love auctions where I couldn't just find a duplicate of every lot on eBay.
I can honestly say I'm not sure if I'm relieved or upset that my bonus check doesn't come until after this auction closes. :D |
Thanks for the kind words everyone, really means a lot to us.
|
Great auction LOTG. Hoping to own a few more cards at the auctions close.
|
Mantle rookie
That Mantle looks great, and with the way Mantle rookies sales have been trending it should do very well - $35-40k+ potentially.
|
One thing I noticed about LOTG is that the level of detail in the listing points to a degree of research that is beyond (many) other auction houses.
I've seen the same item get listed many times at the auction house and at times it is clear that they basically cut and pasted the information. For the items I consigned, it is very clear that a lot of time went into research including a decent amount I had not been able to find in my own research. |
I like the fact that LOTG puts minimum bids on the lots. Nice auction too. I'll be contacting when the auction is over to consign items myself.
Great job guys! |

edited to add that neither card is mine! |
Great collection of interesting stuff, terrific auction, guys. That Tim Murnane Game photo is killer!

Thanks again everyone. It's been a lot of fun watching the home page and seeing all the items that are getting the most recent bids, some items I even forgot we had!

Great job on the auction Jeff, and hope it does well. KC |
Great auction, wide selection
|
As a first-time consignor, of course I hope this does well. Thanks to Al for some hat-tips in the write-ups for unusually good centering etc. for many of my items....
|
The postcards are outstanding, even better than promised!
|
Friendly reminder that the auction ends this Saturday so only a few days left to get your initial bids in.
Also, tune in tomorrow at 6pm Eastern to the GR8 American Collectibles Show, Al will be talking about some cool things in the auction. https://www.psacard.com/radio I already hear from Al way too much so someone please let me know how it goes :) |
Ha, may do that.
|
Impatient to see the result ! Its a nice auction and i am also a first time consignor. The service of that auction house is amazing. Now i hope. My 1952 mantle qill receive more bids lol
|
Thanks Nelson!
We were mentioned on the Forbes site today, funny what they chose to write about out of everything we have in the auction... Forbes |
Not funny at all. I thought that was the second coolest picture of ruth in your auction. The first was his missed swing!
|
Jeff
Hi Jeff, thanks for bringing us a great auction. I collect T213-2's, and you have 2 HOF'ers in your auction. Both of them are in one lot. I am curious about why you decided to put them together. I need the Marquard, but I am not going to bid on both cards in order to get it. Lot #566.
Thanks, Rick |

Thx red fan !

We could have separated those, but think they make more sense together given the value. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll keep an eye out for another Marquard for you Rick! |
Tonight will be 2nd under Al's new "double overtime" closing rule so will be interesting to see how that works out this time (all lots close at 2 a.m. if no bids received in past hour, while others still active go on). I missed reaction to the first use a few months ago so don't know what anyone thinks of it...
