Goodwin...what is going on?
After having the auction preview pushed to today, Friday, August 18th, I just saw this message on their website: Masterpieces and Uncommon Commons LXXII will preview Monday, August 21, 2017 and open for bidding Tuesday, August 22, 2017. The auction closes on Thursday, September 7, 2017.
Anyone know what is going on? |
They're adjusting for the eclipse.
|
it seems like the the last year or so, a few of the smaller boutique auction houses are unclear about when their next auction is, or a previously announced date gets pushed back. lack of consignments maybe?
|
They're still sorting thru all my 1988 Donruss cards
|
Just spoke to Bill. Auction preview will be available for viewing next week.
|
Maybe he has another Koufax PSA 8 and is debating whether to still call it a $200K card.
"For the discerning collector or the profit-driven investor, this card should be an automatic. The Koufax rookie card’s climb has been as remarkable as Koufax pitching at Dodger Stadium on a hot summer day. We expect the day to come very soon, when Koufax rookies at PSA 8 will be selling well in excess of $200,000 and perhaps as $250,000. If you’ve ever contemplated a Clemente rookie, we strongly encourage you investigate this card." |
Maybe they took in some late additions which were very nice, and they are making last minute changes.
|
I think the last Goodwin auction was pushed back several times too. Weird

Maybe the should have rephrased that? |
Have Koufax's really gotten that inflated? I have a PSA 6 I paid $250 for over a decade ago. Am I sitting on money?
Update: it appears that I am. |
If you put it in the $500 thread it would double your money pretty quickly.
|
I guess Bill Goodwin doesn't believe in previews because there is still nothing up and the auction supposedly starts tomorrow ????
|
The home page lists the auction highlights. Some nice cards!

I don't understand the obsession with when Goodwin starts his auction.
|
It's not an obsession, but it is more than mildly irritating when, for the second straight auction at least, Goodwin has given start dates, waited fairly close to their beginning, and then bumped them back multiple times for no good stated reason. Makes the auction look amateurish--they really should get their poop in a group.

So why the hell give a starting date? Let it happens when it happens.

Actually, I'm hoping to not be in jail. About to go downtown Phoenix. Like. Now.

Goodwin always has a dozen cards worthy of any collection. The highlights for his next auction are on the home page. Sick!

She's very perceptive. Now I've cancelled the reservation. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. |

I prefer to support our advertisers and there is plenty to keep me busy. |
Based on the number of calls I get about Ken Goldin I would say Goodwin is the safer bet.

The last time I won a lot from them, 1 of the better cards was not included in the shipment. I notified them immediately of such. A few days later they said it would be sent out right away and nothing ever showed up. After several weeks of waiting, we agreed on a partial refund. Multiple times I was told the check would be sent but it never was. It took almost 2 months after the auction ended and I made payment for everything to be settled. DJ |

If my wife (also very perceptive) sees your post, she will learn of my mistresses and my life will be ruined. To Goodwin - "stall" To Darwin - "please delete" |

Auction still isn't open I guess.

Back in October 2005 I called Bill because I was looking to buy a 1952 Topps PSA 3 Mantle for a customer. Bill said he had one that he could sell for $7500. When I received the card and credit card slips he charged me $8500. I called him and he said oh no, I said $8500, but agreed to refund me $500. Since I did the transaction by phone I had no proof. Never bought anything from him again.
|
my guess, it opens sometime before the closing date

Well, it is live now.

The reason for the delay is obvious.
Goldin is announcing they are auctioning Goodwin's next entire auction. |

Goodwin Signed T206s
1 Attachment(s)
Surprised to see a whopping seven signed T206 cards. At least 5 of these originated from the 2007 Great Pittsburgh Find of Signed T206 Cards. I have these poses already, but I am really excited to see what they go for. Did these come from someone's collection on Net54?
EDITED TO ADD: Doyle, Snodgrass, Leifield & McBride are from the Pittsburgh Find; Jones was from the Jeff Morey Collection; Carrigan was a recent pickup on Cleensweep Auctions, and I'm not sure where the Livingston came from - but there are a lot of them, so a lot of sources are possible. |

I made like bids on 7 different cards..and within 5 minutes..my high bidder status was outbidded...amazing to get outbid so fast this early in the auction....they were not bids that would win the card at all but still amazingly fast to have all my bids outbid in 5 minutes or so....people must run to outbid people when they get the email that they are no longer the high bidder....i thought most wait till the end...or put a max bid in..

I just got my catalog in the mail and had a question to those who are perhaps more familiar with the terminology of "duplicate lots". The catalog says they've pledged to not duplicate lots in their auction. Im guessing that means 2 different lots of the exact same card? Say for example a 1951 Bowman Mantle and 1952 Topps Mantle?
|
Funny. Could be several different answers. One is SGC and the other is PSA.
Or that their different grades. In my opinion, it be hard to turn down a consignment of these 'premier' iconic cards. Basically your turning some good BP(buyer premium) $$ away. btw, I got mine today as well. |

Goodwin & Co. has extended its Masterpieces & Uncommon Commons LXXII auction due to the tremendous damage and disruption of lives caused by Hurricane Irma in the last several days on top of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey just weeks ago. The auction will now close on Wednesday, Sept. 20. "It wouldn't be right to close this auction when so many of our faithful bidders are unable to participate,'' company president Bill Goodwin said. In addition to the extension, Goodwin & Co. has partnered with the American Red Cross to create several Irma/Harvey Relief lots as part of its November 2017 Auction. Collectors interested in donating lots to the Irma/Harvey relief fund may contact Goodwin at bill@goodwinandco.com.
Shocker!!!! |
That is a really nice gesture re: helping victims but I would have preferred they partnered with local organizations instead.
