Top 5 pieces
5 Attachment(s)
Ok, so I need a card fix and would like to see everyone's top 5 pieces. It doesn't need to be cards. It can be photos, pics, memorabilia, whatever you are most satisfied and happy to have. I also shamelessly admit that I want to see my 5 favorite cards together. I'm a Cuban card guy, so here are mine:

Those belong in a Museum Kenny!

Those are pretty cool! There are a few non-sports cards of famous people I wouldn't mind having myself. Kevin |
I have never seen the Monet or Caruso cards before. Very nice.

I was never much of a Picasso fan. I have several Monet prints and like Matisse as well, although not as much as Monet. I run hot and cold on most of the impressionistic painters, but I have always liked Monet.

Tonight, I would say these, but that changes sometimes.

Peter, love the Einstein card. What is it?
OT: the new National Geographic series "Genius" is outstanding, well worth a watch. Plus Moe Berg features in it, too! |

Very, very nice. But you forgot to let us know that Rita Cansino is probably better known to us as Rita Hayworth. (And as my late father used to say, "Hubba-Hubba!") |

Favorites
This is an interesting thread. It was tough to narrow it down to five. This exercise made me realize that my favorites change over time as I've recently told people that my Edd Rousch signed 1915 Cracker Jack and my Tris Speaker signed 33 Goudey were my favorite cards, but those didn't make the list.

Wow, amazing stuff!
But I am still rolling on the floor after seeing the Ross Geller rookie! Why have I not added that to my collection yet? |

Why did they put that McCormick in that huge holder? And won't the corners get destroyed if it bumps into something?
|
Yeah, I need to get it reholdered. It's ridiculous.

my top five (i stuck to cards except one):
DS Greenberg (my favorite card, and also the first one i bought back in 1989 when i started collecting) Copper Plate Wagner (his rookie IMHO) love the Copper Plates! T227 Cobb (from Halper) C57 Lester Patrick (early hockey cards are awesome, esp black and white) and my favorite non-jersey memorabilia piece, iconic Cheevers game worn mask (sorry if too big, was all i could do to figure out how to past the pictures!) |
Simply beautiful!
Jason and AJ,
I don't care if your Cobb Cracker Jacks are lower grade, they are simply beautiful!!!! Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Tim Kindler |
Cheevers Mask................
Wow, Paul what`s the story behind that game worn mask ? Early Stanley Cup winnings seasons or what, incredible sir !

And Paul, awesome Wagner "rookie". It looks like you have the full National Copper Plate bound collection...there are many other "rookies" in there that I would love to have...nice one and oh so rare! and Kenny, if you ever get tired of looking at your Wheat minor league cabinet, let me know...since it's only #4 on your list, maybe there's hope :D;) |
Picking a top 5 is a very difficult undertaking, so I cheated and limited my selections to pre-war individual cards/cabinets (e.g., no team photos/postcards, press photos, etc.). And even then, this was a difficult task!
(1) 1873 Warren Studio CDV - Jim O'Rourke (2) c1943 RPPC - Roy Campanella (3) 1893-94 Perkins Studio Cabinet - Hughie Jennings (4) 1898 Polensky Cabinet - Fred Clarke (5) 1914 University of Michigan Photo Card - George Sisler http://photos.imageevent.com/derekgr...0OquRourke.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/derekgr...Campanella.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/derekgr...20Jennings.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/derekgr...8%20Clarke.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/derekgr...20Sisler_1.jpg |

Tough to narrow down to only five but I will try;
1. Barnum and Baily circus elephants playing baseball, this a tougher variation of the similar but smaller version that has both P.T. Barnum and Bailey in the upper left hand corner 2. I have all three Tuxedo's but if I had to pick one, I like the Walter Johnson the best 3. Spalding catchers trophy 4. Peach advertising 5. 1894 Pittsburgh Pirates schedule |

Thanks, i do have the bound copper plate set (minus 5, including the Anson, i had to fill in, but accomplished!). i think that is the most amazing set, the pictures are awesome and they have the full description and information on the back. i consider them the first cards and they are perhaps the earliest ones with any player info? so many rookies in there. i have the M-101 sporting news supplement set too. some different player selection (as an aside, I managed to get a few Delehantys at very reasonable prices while completing, for some reason he is listed in the guide, and was priced at auction, as a common ..but it's Ed Delehanty). Steve Verkman broke up a Copper Plate set recently and still has a bunch for sale (minus some of the keys but still many HOF's left). was able to finish the set from his sale. i love that Walter Johnson Tuxedo above! amazing.
