Brian, a post with a comment? Why, how wordy of you. If knew staying up until 3:00 am got me a card, I would do it more often. Nice.

Actually I had two reasons for staying up until 3:00 a.m. One was celebrating a Penguins win in the Stanley Cup Finals without catfish. The other one may be posted later. Working out details.

Cool cards guys.

Is that actually Merkle, or did they picture Schaefer by accident?

Leon 06-01-2017 01:14 PM

It is Schaefer listed as Merkle.....

I too got this last night. I've been waiting a long time for one that I could afford.

Jobu 06-01-2017 03:52 PM

I think we should refer to this card as J=K's Boner.

For those that don't get my reference (because the best jokes have to be explained, right?):

Picked this up on Clean Sweep last night. Only two examples of this card have been graded. The other one was posted recently by Jeff in another string.

May be the best portrait of Cobb ever.

I posted the cabinet since I got it at the end of May. But the Harpers came today and was happy to see it was the full sheet and not just the cut out of the team.

Picked up a few nice additions to my back set, but this one has to be presented separately.

It may not be to pretty, but Hunter with a non-SC/Pied. back is very, very tough, indeed...................... ;)
It is probably one of the toughest cards that I own or will own, imo .................... :o

I actually thought this might have been a card that I would never get ........................ :):)

Hey Brad - love that Cabinet!! If you ever want to part with it...you now know where to find me!

Oh - and Orlando, nice addition to your Cobb postcard collection. It must be the nicest collection of Cobb PCs in existence!!

Interesting. Schaefer only played for one New York team and that was in 1916 for the Yankees. Nice uniform overlap.

orly57 06-01-2017 07:21 PM

Thanks Derek. I appreciate the kind words, but Jeff Lichtmann (Calvindog) and Jim Clarke (Beantown) share that distinction. I am trying though!

Pretty excited to have the opportunity to pick up one of the cards on the "bucket list", Don't think I have seen another example in over a decade or so, so despite the lower grade I'll take what I can get. :)

All great pickups guys and how can you go wrong with Cobb or Anson. Orlando, you are a machine and born again hard! Just a year ago how many postcards did you own? Love the DFP image.

I just got this little grouping in from a long time board member and many thanks go out to him. The baseball/boxer cards are amongst the rarest cards from the 20s, along with the plain background Exhibits.

lucky to snag this little run of Sporting Life papers. I've always thought papers have been under valued, but that seems to be changing. Midweek Pictorials and Police Gazettes are also nice papers from close to the same time period.

This pin popped up on eBay so I snagged it. I think it's the 1909 (not 1910) Morton Buster Brown pin. Agree with Kevin that's it's one of his best images.

Never thought I'd be able to add an unopened, properly dated Old Mill slide pack, to my collection. Many thanks to a long-time pack collector (and member of this board), who contacted me after uncovering what is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime "find" of several of these packs, along with at least a portion of the carton they came in! If you're wondering about the "overstamp," it is factory info only. Now, if only I could find a reliable TPG to certify and slab this baby:

Over the years, some have suggested that an xray or MRI might reveal the contents of these packs--I'm not really sure about that. There is, of course, another method to "find out if a card is in there," but that of course is NOT going to happen. Thank you all for the positive comments, both here and via pm's.

Michael-

Beautiful pack. Save your money on the x-ray; it doesn't work!

Thanks Dan. Now I'm looking at 1955 Topps Robinsons. Would love a 52 obviously. I can feel the sickness rising. :D

Thought about doing a Jackie Robinson master set but a) probably can't afford it and b) I don't know what the hell a master set is. :) Thought about trading some Jackie Robinson photos for cards, but figured that takes a unique collector crossover.

Patiently waited and got my Pete Alexander. Though it's a Tom Barker version rather than a National Game, but no matter. I like the Barker backs better so it was a win to grab this. Edit to say I can't believe he was only 26 in this picture. He looks like he is 50.

Seems like a minor card....

But it is the last one I needed to complete the entire N28 and N29 sets, 100 cards, with both albums too. I'm finished with A&G... both sets accomplished.

Gotta love a guy named " Moose "

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...9MOOSE_NEW.JPG

....just picked up the faded and worn 1933 Worch ; call me suspicious but the photos used for the cards look a little bit similar ; He's pictured wearing an athletics uniform but in 1934 he was playing with the Chicago White Sox ; I guess the Wheaties ( Gold Medal Foods ) guys didn't want to spend any extra money for a current photo since it was the depths of The Depression. After one year with the White Sox he pitched for the 1935 Brooklyn Dodgers and then in 1936 wound up his last year with the St. Louis Cardinals ( His manager then was Frankie Frisch , age 38 ; Moose was 36.) "Moose"... I like that.

A big thanks to board member Mike Garcia (of a few posts above this one) for going out of his way to alert me of a closing auction of a this card he knew I needed to finish my set. I haven't bought a card in over a year. I have been looking for this one for three years. Super glad to get this one at the price I did because of the kindness of a fellow board member. Thanks again, Mike. Also glad for the opportunity to try out my new scanner.

I finally got an Old Mill back for my collection. Liked the odd coloring on the T59 I am guessing what ever stained the top of the card has something to do with the blue and green back. And just thought I would get a cheap Sanella.
