March Pickups...
1 Attachment(s)
I don't usually post in the pickup threads, but I want to start March with a thank you to Bryan (Jobu) for pointing out this one that arrived today and has been on my want list for a long time. I likely overpaid, but with these only coming up in what seems like 18 month gaps and missing the last few...I could care less. :D

Happy with this one. I missed out on a low grade one that the Detroit Pawn guys sold on eBay last year. This one fits my collection to a "T" and is proof another will come along eventually!

I sent out a message on bst for a nicely centered e90-1 Cobb with good color and image. I thought I would get no response because these cards are so tough to find centered. Not only did a member respond with the perfect card, but it is the very card I had been angry that I missed on REA. Thank god for n54.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As they say --- March comes in like a LION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great, Scott  |
Great looking Cobb's Ben and Orlando! Congrats!

Some new mid-tier backs. All but one are from board members, including another epic trade with Scott. I wish more people on here wanted to trade. Thanks guys!

New Highlanders and some Yankees...
3 Attachment(s)
I am a wood artist and recently I decided to sell some of my old vintage tools. I got the money and bought some cards for my Highlander/Yankee team type collection. Last two days I have looking out the window waiting for my Postman. I'm very happy today.....

I am starting to warm up to these pre-war type cards...

Got these three Old Mill cards from another member of the board (thanks Ben!) and I absolutely LOVE them!
I think I am starting to get hooked on these little tiny cards. I am up to three of these, two T206, three M116, and one Old Judge. |
Got these two in for my team set:

I am sitting here, doing homework, and my Steinbach is on the table right in front of me! I think he is my favorite. That is, until Ben talks me into buying more of them! Lol. |

I didn't acquire the entire Cleveland commons subset in February/March, but I did receive the last one I needed (Terry Turner) in March. I also knocked off 2 more T206 HoFers that I got for steals of deals, and the eBay seller was so nice I wanted to throw him a bone and buy 2 more of his auctions. Got the '62 Cassady (Go Browns; I know, I know, y'all are sorry for me) and a nice Boggs RC for my HoF PC. Hopefully my next March pickup is the house we're waiting to close on...

Always liked this image of Hornsby. Finally snagged one. "Series of 80" Back

I was surprised to be the initial bidder the day the auction opened, and win it with the one bid. I know the ink on the back should have resulted in a MK designation, but still, a really nice O'Hara, as far as I can see.

Thanks Scott

No one seemed to notice my O'Hara earlier, so I will see if this gets a response. Six down, 33 to go, what do I mean by this statement? (for the advanced T210 collectors) :D

Once again, a prayer is answered on the BST. In this case, two prayers. The 1908 Brush Ty Cobb (mislabeled 1910) and the Max Stein. Each of these cards have a known graded population of 5. The Brush is best known specimen. The Max Stein would be graded higher were it not for two small holes on top from a removed staple. Needless to say, I am thrilled.
|
Nice cobbs...Really nice Cobbs
|
Looks like Mr. Ty Cobb is getting a lot of love in March! Many great pickups so far ranging from Old Judges to Postcards. Congrats to all including Orlando for having his Prayer answered.

Guys,
You both are really good guys on here. I don't think Ben was aiming at you, Orly, or your beautiful Cobbs. It was just a response to me. I think we have enough strife on other threads, and I was not trying to make any kind of statement one way or the other. I really was just curious if anyone read anything I write, because I rarely get any kind of response. Both of you are top notch guys that appreciate the cards, price be darned. I value the contributions of both you guys. Sorry if my comment got things off track here, and I hope we can all be friendly with our discourses. Let's all have a fun day, I hope? Ed |

3 new T206 Evers, Chicago Shirt, to add to my back run effort, which already includes a Red Hindu and Broad Leaf 350 (sorry for teh busted pic). Please email or text me if you have any Evers or Tinker (bat offs) for sale or trade.

Nice Evers' Ryan!
And that O'Hara is awesome Ed! |

Seems like you are starting with the tough ones and working backwards! Great subject for a back run. I only have the Piedmont, but I bought it from Dr. Frank, so I like it a lot. |

When I post here I like to post my best as well, but tend not to get much response. Here is a recent pick-up...do you think it is more valuable because it measures tall and has a wide white gap in the middle?

Yellowhorse

I picked this up in Feb., but just getting around to posting it now. Not sure what happened to it - some type of art deco creation. It looks like someone painted a blue rectangle around the back of Moses, then used white paint to outline him. Finally, they used a red pen to make Xs all around his silhouette. Also, they glued his name on a piece of paper that is partially covered. In hand, it's actually pretty cool to look at! Any info on what/why this is what it is would be appreciated!
|
Thanks Luke. And now I just gave you leverage to keep up the hard ball on that Evers AB!!

One card mailday...
....but it's a good one.
Good news is that it shipped really fast, bad news is that I missed out on $22 eBay bucks because I paid too quickly. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psnvixanqm.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbe93cyki.jpg :) Any other members here win any of these? |
Great Cady Scott!
Orlando- Congrats again on those Cobbs! |

Really, just eye appeal (but usually around 3's and 4's), and centering must be good. Still need Heinie Wagner and Eddie Cicotte. Wagner is tough...

Haha, Leon, 'tis but a scratch!
Ed -- Great cards, thanks for sharing! I, for one, often don't know when to chime in to say "great card!" although I think it often when looking through the pickups thread. I guess I don't want to point out one card and leave others thinking that their cards weren't appreciated as well! So I end up saying nothing... Anyways, I received this in the mail today...I love this pose with the sunset background. Cheers, Steve |

Not sure what that Yellowhorse picture is but, on the back it mentions something about the Plain Dealer Library from 1965. The Plain Dealer is the main daily newspaper still operating in Cleveland, Ohio, Possibly came from them and something they did? Not sure but, maybe a place to check with. |

Milestone
My most recent addition is nothing spectacular...
https://www.collectorfocus.com/image...elder-portrait It is rather significant for me though, as it represents the 200th different front/back combo for my White Sox T206 master set that I'm working on. Only about 110 more to go 'til it's finished... |
Steve, Nice pickup on the Mathewson. I saw that when it was first listed and forgot to come back to it. I did get to continue my e92 obsession this month by picking up a pair of duplicate nadjas.
