Sweeeet pickup.... Congrats! Dave: One of those Blue Satin Dodger Jerseys would look awfully nice draped on that Hanger. You must've had some pretty shrewd search words to find that obscure thing. |

Abe Stark
Quote:
Thanks.. Search words very simple... "Abe Stark." I am always looking for contextual adds for ball parks and uniforms. For many, searching for "Abe Stark" might have seemed bizarre, until they see images for the bottom of the scoreboard from Ebbets Field. As far the jersey, pretty close guess. This hanger will be used with a Carl Furillo home satin jersey as I suspect "Skoonj" saved Stark a suit on more than one occasion. Dave Grob |

Not sure if this belongs in this section or in the autograph subsection, but was pleased to win this in the Hunt Auction that ended tonight.
I've been very slowly working on a collection of line-up cards signed by managers who are in the HOF (regardless of whether they are in the Hall due to their playing career, managerial career or other reason). This lot includes a Frank Robinson signed lineup card, which fills a spot in my collection. The lot also includes signed lineup cards from: Dick Williams (HOF duplicate, so would trade this for another HOF) Paul Richards Gene Mauch Ralph Houk Jeff Torborg Darrell Johnson |
congrats

Nice Dave...
You're on quite a roll with the unique stadium artifacts. Not exactly "run of the mill" stuff  I haven't picked up a lot lately, but here's one worthy of posting... Pete Rose Rookie-era Reds Cap with Wilson Tagging, indicating August 1963 manufacture date. Cap remains in amazingly nice shape... |

Yeah, that table was just a temporary prop... albeit a pretty fancy one! ;) |

Nice addition to my collection. Hails from Beverly Field in California in 1941. Many future AAGPBL greats played there in 1941. Plaque states "Beverly Stadium Championship 1941".

That's incredible Tom. I know how hard it can be to find AAGPBL stuff - what a unique and stunning item.

A few pickups. The first two from fellow N54s Beatles_Guy and smotan-02. N54 is such a great resource for B/S/T. Thanks guys! The tickets are a grouping of early Cornell/Penn games and one Princeton game.

Joe...
Great stuff, and I love the Peck & Snyder Ad Card. The Boater Hat and Thayer Mask are incredible to see portrayed as items currently available for sale. But two questions.... 1. What year is that from (gotta be ancient) 2. What on earth is the doohickey pictured at the lower-right? |
1882. The P&S add is the back of the trade card in the 3rd picture. The trade card is an 1882 series H804-11 card. I got it because of the great P&S add. I don't know what that thing is on the lower right, and I am not sure I want to know .

Awesome Colgan's Chips Sign
Congrats Bob on picking up that very cool sign.
The advertising that Colgan's Chips created is top of the line, and visually stunning. Patrick |
Lucky Day
I've been searching high and low for one of these exceedingly rare Tiger ashtrays for years. I stumbled upon this piece in an antique mall in Northville Michigan last week and could not believe my eyes or my luck:D. If one was going to turn up, I suppose it would likely be in Michigan. It's in pretty good condition and fits in nicely with my other Tiger figurals.

Mike - I've never found anything on my baseball wishlist in an antique store so congrats! :D I have a hard enough time finding anything worth a hoot that's baseball related in antique malls let alone a wishlist item!
Waited up until 3:00am central time to make sure I could fall asleep knowing I had this piece. |

Hi Gary - From just some quick research so far I believe the "Fultons" are the Fultons Base Ball Club from Fulton Illinois that originated in 1867. They are the only Fultons I can find. I have yet to find any team named the "Jacksons". |

Picked it up in Fla. Today. Guy I got it from got it as a gift when he was 9. He is now 50. He got it from a lawyers wife after he passed away. Used to sit on his desk. Did my research and it's light to the feel and the pin is on the bottom from when it was formed. It is immaculate cond. For 1910. It is very dark in color from the photos. Thanks for the help in a previous post... if someone could turn the photos that would be great.

Trophy from 1944, the year prior to the formation of the National Girls Baseball League, a rival to the AAGPBL. The two leagues shared many players from year to year. Emery Parichy was the founder of the NGBL.

Nice item. I've got some photos, etc of women who played on the 'Parichy All-Stars' out of Chicago, back in the early 1940's.

1988 sox
1 Attachment(s)
my first true exposure to baseball was the 1986 redsox... Growing up, I lived about 45 miles from Pawtucket so in 87 my parents took me to a couple of games per month... I was a young autograph hound, and I used to chase players after the game to get their graphs (pro cards team sets in tow). 1988 rolled around, and I was excited when the new schedule showed 4 rookies from that 1987 team... Recently picked up this John Mariano rookie era

One of my first programs that I picked up more than 20 years ago was a 1908 Cornell/Penn football program. It's one of my favorites and got me really into collecting. I've been searching for a game ticket to accompany it for years. Last week I picked up a ticket stub to that game, and low and behold by luck this week I picked up a full ticket.

I love that horse-drawn trolley piece! And the catcher's mask is great too.
Both are very visually appealing. Joins so many other awesome pickups posted this month. |
Nice finds Ron. The Adirondack bat rack is unique, very cool.

Thanks all for the Kudos about the ticket.
I know some here collect baseball or sports themed postal covers. I am always on the lookout for a good cover, and they are usually relatively cheap. I picked this envelope off ebay last week. It's large, as the Spalding Catalog was mailed in it. For some reason I can't find an image of the 1913 Spalding Spring and Summer Catalog. If anyone has a copy or an image of the cover, I'd appreciate it if you could send me a pic. Thanks! Attachment 258685 |
A couple
I have purchased a couple large items the past 2 months.
1) 1917 type 1 photo with period 1917 signature. I cannot think of a Ruth signed item that better fits in my collection. 2) mantle 1952 topps rookie. Always wanted one.. never pulled the trigger. I believe this is a very high end 3. At least it shows as such. The solid blue background pops(no white wear). I think I got a good deal on this one. |

Bob Feller WWII Navy- Marines exhibition bassball ticket
5 Attachment(s)
I recently picked up a neat full ticket to a WWII Navy Relief exhibition game on July 25, 1942 between the Norfolk Navy Training Station and the Quantico Marine Corps from Billyscards on the net54 BST.
Bob Feller was the starting pitcher for the Navy and he struck out 13 Leathernecks in the 6 inning game that preceded a game between Newark and Toronto. Oh yeah, some guy named Babe Ruth also acted as an honorary umpire in this game which was played in Newark, NJ. The ticket is in NMT condition and is an excellent compliment to a 1942 Naval team ball featuring Feller that I have owned for perhaps 20 years. It makes for a neat pairing. |
Very cool, Scott. Ahh...the good 'ole days of Newark.:) I know that area where Ruppert Stadium use to be....nothing there now.
|
Nice companion piece Scott. Congrats.
|
Thanks Joe & Chris!
