I posted this on the memorabilia side but just in case more consider this a card.

1860s cdv
I was following it and am glad a forum member got it. I love seeing it. Congrats too!!
ps...to me it is a card but it's debatable :) |
1 Attachment(s)
Acquired late last month from Leland's: 1929 Cienfuegos RPPC, featuring HOFers Willie Wells (back row, 2nd from left) and Cool Papa Bell (front row, 2nd from left). My first career-contemporary card of Cool Papa!! Tough one to knock off the want-list.

Great Pickups Everyone!
Quote:
Steve - while not 'Babe Comes Home', there is a Babe Ruth short film as an in-advertised bonus on the DVD 'For Love of the Game' - very cool! To access it, you have to answer several perfect game trivia questions - not real hard...and the short is worth the price of the DVD - IMO Check it out! ghr |

Some recent pick ups....
In 1931 Ruth hit .373 with 31 2b's, 46 HR's and 163 RBI's. Not a bad year. http://www.collectorfocus.com/images...w517-babe-ruth Lefty had a pretty good year in 1930 as well. 28-5, 2.54 ERA and 208k's. Oh he also had 9 saves. http://www.collectorfocus.com/images...54-lefty-grove And a Greg Bussineau win last night... http://www.collectorfocus.com/images...ewson-dark-cap |

Great pickups everyone! Orlando Especially love those Cobby's.
Here's a couple landed today... |
Picked these up for good prices (I thought) last night from PWCC. Tried to get the E101 Davis and Kotton Lobert also but came up short. Was also hoping to pick up about ten E121s including one of the WaJos, but a few minutes before the auction ended my wife started batting her eyes at me. Yada yada yada, I didn't get any E121s. Was quite the dilemma though

VERY nice pickups. Beautiful cards. |

Last night's PWCC takeaway. I was hoping for the Patsy Dougherty Hindu, but the price ended up being a smidge over budget. Anyhoo, this makes 2/11 cards for my Kling back run!
|
Another Kling
1 Attachment(s)
Happy with this one from LOTG. Kling was the Cub catcher when they won pennants in 1906,1907,1908 and 1910. They would have probably taken the pennant also in 1909 had Johnny Kling decided to play ball rather than shoot pool.

..Just picked up the Type 1 Hartnett ; that completes the base set of 121 Type 1's. I now finally have all the cards from all five Types except one single card. The hunt continues.....This type 1 Hartnett is a very short print.Took a looooong time. I love this hobby. ... |
4 feet wide......
4 Attachment(s)
Signed by photographer, dated, and Red Ruffing (RedSox) on the mound!
Absolutely breathtaking! Peace, Mike PS Don't laugh at the saran wrap on left end......the glass broke there and I just covered that part of the photo up. Facts about this incredible photo: #1 4 feet wide (7” by 48”) #2 Photo by local Boston Photographer W.W. Somers (signed and dated by artist) #3 At least 25 advertising signs that are all readable and crystal clear #4 Pre-Green Monster Wall in left field #5 Of all the fans you can see, there is literally only 1 woman that I could find #6 Hall of Famer Red Ruffing (Red Sox) is pitching to Yankee Johnny Grabowski #8 #7 According to CF clock, the time is 4:18 pm which makes sense (photo is 1st inning of 2nd game of doubleheader) #8 On this day, on this field Babe Ruth was 3 for 9 with 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases #9 On this day, on this field Lou Gehrig was 1 for 5 with a HR, 2 RBIs, and 3 walks #10 On this day, on this field Bill Dickey was 2 for 3 with a HR and 2 RBIs #11 Attendance was 28,000 at Fenway Park that day #12 Original glass and frame (glass is missing on far left side…. 7 inches of glass missing) #13 Incredibly preserved and crystal clear photo #14 Captures a moment in MLB that has numerous Hall of Famers contributing on that day #15 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig had just been at bat in the 3 and 4 hole just before this photo was taken! #16 (as pointed out by David McDonald in this thread) Until 1933, there was a 10-foot incline in front of the then 25-foot wall in left field wall at Fenway Park, known as “Duffy's Cliff.” It was named after outfielder Duffy Lewis, who mastered the 15-degree incline. What an extraordinary panorama and wonderful snapshot in time! I'd love to peruse it inch by inch with a magnifying glass. The clarity is terrific. I particularly like the fans with their heads turned to the camera. It's like they're the photo's subject and the rest is just phenomenal background.
I looked up the game's account in the next day's New York Times and have attempted to attach it to my post. It's a large file and am not sure if the whole thing will post or if it will be legible but here goes. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...2/91798463.pdf |
Thanks!
David, Could you post the link to that article? I'd like to print it and keep it with the photo. It is a bit tough to read form old eyes!
Thanks! Mike |
Great photo! WW Somers was a pretty prominent Boston photographer, his image was used for the 1915 Ruth rookie postcard as well...

Fantastic Fenway panoramic! I certainly am a jealous Red Sox collector!
|
Thanks!
Thank you all. I especially like the left field wall where the Green Monster currently sits. The ads on the wall are crystal clear. Love the clock too! This moment in time is pin-pointed by the clock!!
Peace, Mike |

If you haven't read Fenway 1912 by Glenn Stout (Amazon Link) you might want to pick up a copy. Reads easy and is a terrific account of the construction of Fenway and every nook and cranny plus a blow-by-blow of the Sox' season and WS triumph. Recommend it highly. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...fy%20Lewis.jpg |

Cool Charlie!
Bill,
Love the Gehringer! I met him on golf course in the 1980s in Cooperstown and I was talking so many stats to him as he was refusing to sign, his wife finally said: "Dammnit Charlie, sign for the boy so he will go away!" , he then signed my baseball and I ran to my envious friends!!! Peace, Mike |
I had one heckuva mailday today.
I'm cracking the cases on both of these T206s. I want them both in my binder, and I also don't think the Seymour is a 1. https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...xBwv.jpg:large https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...Dfit.jpg:large The cards pictured in both of these are from a Net54 member, Doug. He added the card in the second picture. https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...xmw6.jpg:large https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...Rv6I.jpg:large My COMC order came in... https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...Vs65.jpg:large https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...S9X5.jpg:large https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...gFJW.jpg:large https://ton.twitter.com/1.1/ton/data...yCaV.jpg:large And I still have one outstanding order coming from Scott from Net54. |
C46 Complete Set (90). I have always had a soft spot for the C46 Imperial Tobacco cards, I love the wood grain borders...

@Orly: That's sweet!! I done the 4 pc set of Cobb T206, but trying to convert to ALL PSA for a registry. Something I should of done before-hand.
The colors on that particular card makes it more appealing than the others. |

1. I think the black on the sgc makes the colors pop more. 2. Psa would not give a straight crossover grade. I would have to crack and send because they are too arrogant to admit SGC may have actually gotten it right. |

A Damned Difficult Charles Gehringer
http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...NGERX3_NEW.JPG
a really great ballplayer....just received the Worch.......added to the rest of what are probably the most difficult other Gehringers : the 1937 Detroit Tigers SubSet of the 1937 Type 5 R314 Goudey Wide Pen Premiums ( which is 88% Toronto and Montreal players) and his "Annis Furs Detroit Tigers Team Set" from 1933 or '34.....I still need the Sawyer Biscuit but I need to hit the lottery first.... ... |

T207 Speaker
Although the Speaker T207 says Tris Speaker bats right handed, the front of the card clearly shows him batting lefty.
I checked Baseball Reference and Tris Speaker was a lefty! Here's the link: http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...peaktr01.shtml Patrick |
New portrait pickups! Thank you T206rg for listing these two!

A brown whale

Had been looking for this one for some time, when what to my wondering eyes did appear ... and so, Mr Livingston makes the last of the Factory 606 Recruits, bringing the sordid business of finishing the Recruits to a close.
Many thanks, Mac W!! That's three subsets down - four to go... at a card a month I figure that makes about 10 more years. -- Mike |
Colgan's ( 208 series )

Van Lingle Mungo Worch
http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...HMUNGO_NEW.JPG..
..just added the "Van Mungo Brooklyn , N.L."....no attribution to source of photograph...palm trees 'way in the back , so Spring training....he doesn't have a lot of cards so a Van Lingle Mungo master set would be a walk in the park....... ... |
yes!
Thanks to Luke Lyon for getting me to 38/44 T206 McGraw backs. I really like this one. Would definitely appreciate any help in locating the others in my signature
