Tricky card for me. Was back and forth with the seller until we finally struck a deal. Hugh Duffy American Beauty 460!
The Durham I received in a fun trade. Tough card in higher grade, for sure. Thank you, Ed! |

Worch Galehouse Upgrade
http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...EHOUSE_NEW.JPG
a very young Dennis Galehouse , in the minors until 1936....a refugee from the poster.. ...I had just started cleaning the poster-child (temporarily and carefully unseated for removal of 81 years worth of cigar smoke and grime) when the graded one became available so despite the fountain pen "1935" on the otherwise blank back I bought it...... ..doesn't come up often..He won a world series game in 1944 pitching for the Browns as I recall.....lost one, too... .. |

Just completed arguably the toughest Old Mill player run (there are 4 others in the conversation).
|
Nice Galehouse, Mike! I like the slight difference in the crop of the "poster-child."
|
Marty - awesome choice in Jennings. There's something pretty awesome about that orange-yellow that is so prevalent in his cards.
Luke - Wow! That is amazing! Was the "finger in air" the toughest? |
That is seriously awesome Luke. Congrats.
|
Thanks Derek and NJ! I've only been looking for 2-3 years, but in my experience yes. My copy is the only one I'm aware of that has sold in that time period.

1936 R312 Goudey Premium Pastel Joe DiMaggio Rookie
1 Attachment(s)
Joe DiMaggio was so new to the card company that they spelled his last name wrong.
Card is rather large. Measuring 4"x 5 3/8" I love this card. --Ben Jordan |

I have looked at my 52's and noticed a few and it got me wondering, how far back does one have to go to see CDN's playing in the major leagues? |
Quote:
There are definitely Canadians in the N172 set; not sure if there is anything older. Cheers, Richard. |
Quote:
Bill Phillips in regarded as the first Canadian big league player. He has a few cards in the N172 set (Old Judge) Other Canucks in the set; Tip O'Neill George Wood Pete Wood Arthur Irwin John Irwin Pop Smith *I think I counted 54 Canadians who played at least one game from 1880-1900. Like Richard noted, Baseball-Reference has a full list of all Canadians who have made a big league appearance. |
This lot of N43 Allen & Ginter World's Champions just arrived in the mail:

I ran the pops at SGC and PSA and the rarest one by population is Slocum, who only has 5 graded between both TPGs. Myers is the next lowest at 9 total. Who got the Buck Ewing from the same seller? He still has some Quadrupeds and Birds in large format for those nonsport collectors among you. |

Just got this today, and gave it a bath. My first time soaking a card and I turned a Piedmont into a Tolstoi.

I know they are low grade and nothing otherwise extraordinary, but these are my first two T205s and I could easily get hooked! Personally, I could be pretty happy with a set that looks like the Merkle. I won't be able to buy much between now and after Christmas (unless I start liquidating something like my '65s), but my 2017 might just start off with more of these gold bordered beauties. Thanks to the T205 collectors for the inspiration.
|
Yeah I was comparing it to pictures of the different backs after I got it, there were a few inconsistencies with the Piedmont back and then I saw the Tolstoi back and smiled. Its the second T206 I have bought from an Ebay seller that probably didn't know a lot about the set.
|
Of the 325 Needhams in the PSA Pop Report, only 7 are Tolstoi backs.

Shriner's Auditorium Show (Wilmington, MA)
1 Attachment(s)
Just returned from the GBSSC show at Shriner's Auditorium in Wilmington, MA.
Went with no expectations and had a great time. Got to hold a few Irv Lewis T207s. Saw some neat cards, and traded a few pre-war postcards for an Ira Thomas Diamond Gum Pin. I also met an old time board member, who many assumed might have passed away. Ralph in NH is alive and well, and we had a long chat. Patrick |

I have subtitled this "Heinrich gets drilled in the ass".
If anyone here can read what I think is German, I would love to know what the back on this one says. |

It is 1/2 the way down and it's since 1871, which shows 245 CDN's played. Just click on their names to find info about them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...rs_from_Canada |

Thrilled to add 2 more new D381 players that I didn't have before yesterday from REA as well as a bunch more tabbed cards. Also got the Clark variation from Goodwin weeks ago. Also got the Anson, just in from REA, gorgeous card with small pinhole.

Picked this up from Ebay yesterday. Nicely centered. Miss labeled factor 25 but really factory 42. Will send it back to PSA to correct it when I get it in hand.

My 3rd T205. It is only a common, but I am really hooked on these! The scan doesn't do this card's color justice. It is beautiful! I have looked at scans of other peoples' T205s for years, but having them in hand is a whole new ballgame! I am also reading The Glory of Their Times, which is helping fill in some gaps and build some knowledge for me as I have traditionally been a postwar collector.

My first Old Judge :) Made a quick ppt slide for it. Love to learn about the history. Ken Burns baseball inning 1 was on last night. Very interesting. However, makes me not want to collect Cap Anson.

Picked up this cool Danny Shea 1911 Obak. Noticed it had printer's marks on 3 of the 4 borders which is unusual for Obaks.

Toronto Show Pick Ups.
2 Attachment(s)
Super heavy on the hockey up in Toronto. Did find a couple pre-war. Picked up these two T206's.
Attachment 250923 Best part of the show was meeting HOFer, Gaylord Perry. Attachment 250924 ...I gotta get to a U.S. National. |

I may, (but not likely), attend tomorrow, mainly due to the fact it is likely mostly hockey, especially with the big UD RC hockey release. Sunday, my son has hockey in the morning himself (I'm the assistant coach/trainer) so I likely won't be going then either? How was the crowd today, and was there much baseball, mainly 52 Topps available that you seen? |

It was pretty busy. Must have heard the name Austin Matthews a thousand times today. Got annoying, what can ya do. Marty. |

Cut a deal with an ebay seller for this Marquard today. This makes my 49th T206. Im making very slow progress on collecting these but I am really enjoying it. Now if only the price of N172 would go down to about forty bucks each :( I can't seem to get off the ground collecting those.

Kind of on an AB kick.
Nice to add another Pied. 42. Tougher Sov. and a PB  Attachment 251343 Now at 70% "backs" between PB and Pied. 42 ...... no end in sight ;) Fun stuff, Scott |
Thought this was a cool pinback. I had never seen it before. It has the same images as the Cameo Pepsin 1897 Toronto pin but set up completely different with the images of the players around the old Canadian Flag. It is about the same size as a Cameo Pepsin pin as well...
