October Pickups

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I own these two cards.
I recently had my first go-round with flipping a collection. 12 near sets sold over the course of 2 months. They were priced well for resale and I found a buyer with whom I was able to establish a really solid connection. I used the profits to nearly complete my 1951 Bowman set (still need Ford and Dickey). I LOVE the Mays. PSA3 looks real solid to me for condition. It's a little O/C, but this cards almost always is. A nice clean back without stains is a major bonus for me as I feel like 51 Bowman has those issues all the time! And as a Yanks fan, it doesn't get any better than Mickey. The MC doesn't really bother me, it's pretty much the same as Mays. I'm just glad he's unobscured and there are no creases or wrinkles going through the major parts of the card. Some may see this as an investment piece, but I don't ever see these cards changing hands (unless I get a chance at a major upgrade!) |
Great pick ups rob !

Nice start to the month! Congrats on the pickups

Wow what a great start to the month with the Willie and Mick rookie cards. Congrats robsbessette.
Neal absolutely love the Hires Aaron. Great score. |
Very nice cards, guys!
Congrats. |

Wanted this one for a while...finally found it in EX or so decently priced. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
What a trio! Am I right that same Clemente image is on his 66 Topps?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |
Close. It's the same image from his '63 Topps, not '66.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Ah, this is a clear sign I need to own more Clementes!! All I've got is 57, 71, 72, and 73. :-(

I like these multiple HOF cards. (Net54 link below) Really a September p/u but didn't have time to scan/upload it. |
John, that's a great batting leaders card! I love vintage LL cards with 3+ HOFers.

Recent pickups, with the Seaver RC from a fellow board member -- put together a good old fashioned multi-card trade + cash deal. Thanks Brian!
|
Darren - great Mick. That's the only playing-era Mantle I own
Jason - awesome Clemente, one of my favorite cards of all time. I read your sig and, since I'm a passionate player collector, I really think you should start a Feller thread and show us some of your items. |
Just received these in the mail. The 56 Mays puts me another card closer to finishing my Mays run. Very happy to add the 81 Bench. Very difficult to find this card centered. I wished it did not have the print issue at the bottom but that is very common with this card. I have been wanting a Kaline rookie for a long time and finally added this one.

Neal - That's a great looking Banks! Workin' on a mid grade 58' set?

Soon to be freed for the binder...almost too OC for me but I do love sharp cornered cards. 37 left for 61...almost there!

On a hot streak tonight...another adjustment to the PSA pop reports...:D
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/YjoAAO...gP~/s-l500.jpg Won another...35 left for the 61's... http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/PuoAAO...0w/s-l1600.jpg |
nice gets fellas!
|
Speaking of Clemente's '66 card I am anxiously awaiting this to arrive. If sharp corners are your thing then this card won't measure up but to me the image is outstanding.
http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...sod39x6cm.jpeg A little OT as it is a wire photo and not a card but happy to acquire this vintage image as well. http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...psqekymd9m.jpg |
Love that 66 Clemente. The guy never took a bad shot on any of his cards.

This eBay purchase arrived today, the last of the three short prints I need for my set. Mantle and Snider remain.
FYI the trademark "HYLO-IZED" (used by the DanDee Pretzel and Potato-Chip Company) expired in 1992. Larry http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...utput_687.jpeg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...utput_686.jpeg |
Well loved beauty! Nice pick up on the Cooper.
This is what collecting is all about. RayB |

I am currently looking for a higher graded/slabbed 52 Topps Of Cooper. My son has the exact same first 2 names, and like him, he also goes by Walker. |
My Gibson came today...it's trimmed. Bummer...left to right. I can see it now in the scan. In hand its really obvious, put it up to a 61 common, just shook my head.

John that's really a shame. They butchered that card on the right side, ugh. Hope you can get a refund.
|
Got this the old-fashioned way, in person at a card show. Then went home and checked how I did vs. ebay and realized that, yes, I overpaid! Alas, my skills aren't what they used to be!
Don't care though, it's Kaline and I'm a Tiger fan. http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbipivlpj.jpg |
Nice color on that Kaline! Not too shabby for a 3.5.
|
Very nice with good eye appeal!
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |
Still a really nice looking Kaline. It only hurts when you pay. After that the memory of the transaction fades and you are left with one spectacular addition to the collection!
Congrats. RayB |
Scott, that is a very nice looking Kaline rookie for the grade. Congrats.
|
This 1952 high number has been on my wantlist for years. I now only need a '52 Topps #354 Fred Hatfield to complete a Topps run of 1952 to current Detroit Tiger base cards

I have wanted an Ashburn and a Spahn for quite a while now and I am glad to say I finally got them.:D
I set my max bids last night before bed fully expecting to be out bid but was glad to see I had won them, and a few others when I woke up this morning! My wins are bitter sweet however as I told myself, after my last group of cards, to take a break buying cards, but I guess I don't listen too well! (Maybe I need help? ;)) |
Nice looking '52s, Irv!

I am the same with the Ashburn. I remember seeing my Uncle's copy some years ago and it always stuck with me. :) |
Nice cards fellas! Great Berra!
Irv, the Ashburn is one of my faves as well with that emerald green back. Nice Spahnnie too! |

Those cards are now at the top of my want list. I missed out on a Feller being outbid by a $1 from the same auction the other night but was way outbid on a Snider. Do you have any dupes to sell or trade? I have a few, Zoldak, Fannin and a graded 2 PSA Billy Johnson that I can think of. The Zoldak and Fannin I upgraded to better copies so they are somewhat rough. (Crease/stain) but would do for fillers or a lower grade set collector. |
Pick-Ups: A "raw" and a rookie!

A couple of new items. The Mathews has a crease right in the middle of the card that I didn't see when I won the auction (it's really hard to see in the scan - much easier to see in person and on the back.)

In defiance of all the recent noise about how Ortiz is the greatest, most important Red Sox player ever. NOT.

That Dan dee Mantle is awesome. The Williams isn't bad either. Nice pickups.

Great pick up peter ! I don't have much love for big sloppy either . So I agree fully .

I relooked at the scan when I received the card and it was impossible to see in the original scan. I was ticked as there was no mention of it but it wasn't worth the effort sending it back, etc, so I just ate the loss. (Thankfully it was cheap!) Your card looks great, BTW. Mine not so much. Quote:

Got this one at the Chantilly, VA, Show yesterday for my collection of players who were on the 1924 Washington Senators Championship team. This card helped soften the realization that Washington won't be winning a championship again this year. :(

Here is a nice '55 Bowman Moryn from a 9 card submission received today. A nice addition to my Dodgers team set-in-progress. The other 8 cards included 1 grade as expected, 6 better than expected and 2 lower than expected. All in all, pretty good.

This one arrived today.
Was quite surprised with it's condition, other than top right corner, obviously, as it looks way nicer in hand than it did in the E-Bay ad. :) |

great Williams; always a favorite card of mine.
This came in today and I was thrilled at how nice it is. The scans on the listing were cruddy cell phone photos: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20MVP%201.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20MVP%202.jpg |
