June Pickups
Just go these gorgeous, centered beauts in the mail for my 52 set. I paid a hefty premium for the Joe Page, but I've NEVER seen him centered like this, so it was totally worth it.

Exhibitman,
That is a sweet looking PSA 6 Rose. Nice centering. That looks much better than a PSA 6. Since we are on the Reds here is my latest purchase. http://i.imgur.com/NEHYkys.jpg?1 |

Fantastic Gehrig! Of course, you'll need a Ruth to go with it!

I know these aren't cards, but I'll post them anyhow since I know many of you are Clemente and Aaron fans.
I just bought about 20 items from a guy who has a pretty amazing collection of old newspaper clippings and inserts. This was cut out from a 1955 Sporting News publication.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...baf6e094b9.jpg This was an insert in a 1955 newspaper. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9619092ff7.jpg And these are advertisements for cards readers could send away for back in 1912 and 1913. I believe the player shown is Shoeless Joe. Zoom in on the first one to see quite a list of names. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...48636972c0.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ca8f9e9422.jpg |
Just got these in.
By far, the nicest 52 Topps cards that I now own. :D |
Yeah, I know, just some 70's stuff, but it's a bucket list thing, collect all the sets of the cool older cards that I found from friends, their older brothers, cousins, garage sales, when I was a kid buying packs in 78-80.
Just filling in some gaps in my 1972 set. I only need Munson, the 2 Roses and Al Kaline and I'll have 1-656 complete, with 76 high numbers to go. I also have some 1971s on their way, only 16 high numbers left to complete that set. http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2bt0ozoj.jpg |
Love those '72s, such a rad looking set.
Upgraded my Clemente! http://i.imgur.com/xgPOqU0.jpg And my favorite photograph on any 70s card: http://i.imgur.com/2ecJt5e.jpg |

Some more came in today. I had the Seaver, Carlton and Johnny Bench In Action card as a kid. I haven't seen them in 25 years when I lost them in the early 90's. It was one 500 count box or something, so it wasn't like a huge collection... but it's like seeing old friends again.
I also had the Willie Mays In Action card but never liked them because they weren't the "real" card of the player...ahhh, the stupid things you think of when you're 9 years old. I traded a whole set of KISS cards for the "real" 72 Mays card back then, but turns out my friend was a rat fink and took it from his brother, so I got the KISS cards back, lol. http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...psu3hvdyhn.jpg |
Do you have the 1972T TRADED subset yet? I don't have any of them but really like the Frank Robinson and Joe Morgan. Steve Carlton is another in that set.

NICE! My particular form of obsessive compulsive disorder doesn't allow me to buy cards in holders because I can't put them in the binder and the blank spot drives me nuts. :D

Received this today. It may be mid-grade (SGC 55) and a bit off-center; however, there's just something special about a '56 Mantle. :)

Am totally breaking the rules here to show a VERY modern card, courtesy of N54 member Tanner (of Canseco fantasy card fame). This came from winning the Opening Day Hunger Challenge he sponsored back in March.
My son is playing his first season of Little League, so I'm considering this his official Pre-Rookie card! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9185ca6d00.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...10641cd3dc.jpg |
That's great Jason! I hope your son is enjoying the game!!!!!

My quest for further low number 52 Topps cards and my first SGC and GAI graded cards. I must say, I like these SGC slabs! :).
I know some of the stories associated with GAI, but thought I'd take a chance on this one as it was being sold by the same seller. |
Irv- Nicely centered examples.
Congrats. RayB |

Centering never concerned me much but when I seen these and the relatively low bids they were getting, I jumped in and luckily won them. :) |

Two nicely centered Hofers. Nicely done.
The 62 Mantle is really nice. Better than some eights I have seen. |

Nothing too exciting except for me...down to 11 more to go for my 1963 Topps set. Getting super excited to finish such an iconic set...

But the baggie really sucks. I hate the PSA holdering of cards with the baggie. I'll say again; Amazing Mantle; Congrats. RayB |
Quote:
I've never really given this much thought. What is the reasoning behind the baggie? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Not sure on the Mylar Baggie. Not a fan of it either. Just spitballing, could it be since there might be oil from the potato chips still on/in the card?

I wanted to get in on the latest rookie card craze. I guess this would be a considered Musial's rookie card if it's 1947.

Another detour from rookie cards, no big deal but looked a long time for a nice one. |
Pick-Up
Thanks, guys. I caught the auction with about a minute left and thought "man, what a great looking card." Decided to throw in a bid in the last few seconds and won it.
As usual - great pick-ups, everyone! Todd |

I've been out of the game for a while, but I went to Mark Macrae's show today and bang!!! I negotiated like a fiend and knocked three extremely tough cards off of my need list at a great price and I am psyched!!!!
Plus, I picked up a ridiculously nicely centered 1972 Aaron IA, and it's the 'variation' with the red/orange streak running through it, so I have that going for me, which is nice… Attachment 235465 |
