Other than the 51 Bowman and the 52-3 Topps Mantle, which would be your favorite card to have ?

I'm going to throw a sentimental vote for the '65. My dad got this for me the year Mantle passed as a Christmas gift when I was 12. Despite the sentimental value, the '65 is arguably the nicest Mantle from the 60s IMO

'65 was a great year, 100% agreed. I also like '56, the landscape design and eye appeal to that card rocks. I only have two Mantles in my collection but am looking to add more :)

Ridiculously nice card ! I do not own a 56 topps mantle . I went to buy a Mantle( with a 1956 in mind ) at the local card show . I was also in the hunt for a early willie Mays card . I figured either one I could find . I saved for awhile and hit the show . Lol I some how left with a 1951bowman whitey ford and a 1962 topps Mickey Manlte.

Bingo! Want one of these pretty bad but will be a while before I can get one.

Aside from my 52, I like the 53 and 56 copies with the 53 just slightly ahead of the 56.

I need this for my set. Not gonna happen this time..lol. Interested in the final price though.

The 54 Red Heart is one of his nicest looking cards, imo.

Did you get the one that sold recently? I put in some strong bids on it and was planning to sell one of my 52 Topps to pay for it. But just couldn't land it. Such an awesome card.

As for favorites, I'm partial to the 60 Venezualan Topps Mantle/Boyer. That one was particularly tough to locate. I have about 20 "favorites" though.

Add me to the list of 1965 Topps fans. And the oft-discussed 'fake' Mantle's Clutch HR card is pretty cool, too.

Best: Going regular issue only... #1) 55 Bowman - I don't understand why prople don't appreciate this card more. Great color; Iconic card design; Mick looks like a teenager; and look at that upper body strength. This is the one card where Mick looks like a guy that can hit 500 foot HRs. #2) 1965 - Assuming the card in question is centered. Great color; Clean, crisp photo; Great card design; Mick looks like a beast following through with his swing. #3) I'd list 1956 #1, but the portrait doesn't really look like Mantle (he looks kinda goofy). Everything else about '56 is spectacular.
Ugliest: #1) 1967, by far; #2) 1959 - Mick looks kinda whimpy in this one. #3) 1968 - looks too much like 1966 (which I think is one of the better looking Mantles). '66 is cool because of the Yankee Stadium backdrop; '68 is flat out boring.
Most Overrated: #1) 1957 Topps - Everybody loves the '57 set, but boy, that Mantle card is dark, drab, and virtually colorless. Ugly as heck. #2) 1953 Bowman - I think the 53B gets so many votes for "Best Mick Card" because everybody loves the 53B set. But Mick is one of the uglier cards in that set. Picture is cropped poorly. Little color; Picture is kinda drab compared to the other 53B's. #3) 1961 - Picture always seems kind of fuzzy; color isn't great; Ugly card design; People love this card for the year it represents, but it is kinda ugly.

I would go with 56T based on the great design and the Triple Crown year.

1956 is my favorite and the first mantle I picked up. Also like the 1955 bowman.

I've always liked the 67 Topps of the Mick.

Dark drab and colorless? Uh, no. Not the green tint version anyhow.

Wow, some very nice Mantles. I see several that are high on my want list (e.g., 1959 Bazooka, the Stahl Meyers, the Home Run Derby card, the Venezuelans).

57 Topps sucks.

I have always liked the 1954 Red Heart. I picked up the PSA 6 around a year ago and upgraded to the PSA 8 about 6 months later.

This is my favorite because (1) I'm partial to very scarce cards, and (2) my mom fed me Briggs hot dogs when I was a kid, but I didn't save the cards because what kid wants a card with no player bio/stats on it that had to be cut off a waxy hot dog box. :eek:

Not being Mantle collector and being mostly into pre-War cards these years, I sold this beauty on eBay last summer to build up my war chest for the Heritage auction of Leon's collection.
