Feb 12, 1999 in Breckenridge, Colorado. Just came off the 4 o'clock Run and saw him in the ski lodge. Asked to get a picture and he jumped up and went outside with us. Nice interaction......good guy.
And true story.....right after taking the picture with him, I had to use the restroom. He just happened to walk in right after me and proceeded to take the loudest dump I've heard. True story. Attachment 220791 |

Darn it, can't find my photo with Bert Campaneris, probably being used as book mark in one of my many unread books. :p
But I do have this one !!!!!!!!!!!!!! During my Trenton Thunder days: Me, then Rex Hudler -- late '90's -- pretty impressive.:) Attachment 220801 Actually, one of the greatest guy I've ever known is on far right, John Coletta, our accountant. Great sense of humor and personally kept Coors Light in the black for many years. Every Monday after the Super Bowl he would take as a personal day (He knew he wouldn't be doing well that day). Even though I sadly lost contact with him, I still celebrated "Coletta Day" two days ago !!! I have no bathroom stories on either. Fun stuff, Scott |

In my job I cross paths with lots of people who in this day and age would call for a "selfie", but it's not my style. When I spent a few hours at the Gold Glove Awards this past fall, I was in a total of zero pictures, but over the course of the last few years, I have met two people who I needed to get my picture with, and they were both very nice about the intrusion.
My thanks to both Mrs. Clemente and Mr. Olbermann. Doug "I probably need a haircut" Goodman |

Until I discovered that the local minor league team brings in players every now and again for signings, my sports photos were few and far between. Aside from some early Mariners photo day shots, I met Bob Feller at a card shop. That was it. Then, I got a bunch of autographs at the 2001 Fan Fest, but was alone so didn't have any photos taken with any of them (Bob Gibson, Enos Slaughter, Orlando Cepeda, Carl Erskine, Rico Carty, Jim Rice, Pedro Guerrero, etc) except one…Garvey!

He was kind of a grouch too… http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a81...w/P8230004.jpg And these are just too good not to share. 1980 Mariners photo night. Sporting a vintage look that night, but love that I have these now all these years later. http://1978theyearitallbegan.blogspo...irca-1980.html |

walking to our seats and who do i see seating in one of our seats? My childhood hero Steve Garvey. He was giving a personal tour of the stadium to some people and he had seen them to their seats. I wasn't going to ask him to move so just sat next to him and had a 20 min conversation about baseball. During which there were people coming by for autographs and he said i acted as his agent since i was handing him the stuff to sign :D
Class act all the way. Wow! i still get goose bumps thinking about that day A thrill of lifetime which one can't put words to it. Thank you Greg for picking those seats and that particular game ;) |

His signature is so legible, nobody has to guess. I remember he got hit by a pitch the night before so I asked him about it. This Polaroid is the only photo I was ever in with a ballplayer. The signature came out of my Snoopy autograph book. Summers' 1979 and 1980 stats with the Tigers were Hall of Fame-quality and seemed to come out of nowhere. Interestingly, he was in the 1984 World Series but as a Padre. He struck out in his only AB. Sadly, Champ died of kidney cancer in 2012.

I gotta find the picture of me and Bob Stanley, i was like 9 years old ( It was like 1989) My dad says he rememembers we asking him (my father) after the signing, if Bob feels bad that he didnt get most of the blame for blowing game 6...LOLOL... 9 years old, and i was still bitter

Here's a blurry Polaroid of my 11 year-old self and the late Dick Howser in 1973 when he was the third base coach for the Yankees.
My uncle was receiving some type of award at a contractors dinner / award ceremony at the Amber Lantern Restaurant in Queens, NY and Dick was the guest speaker. The award ceremony was incredibly boring for an 11 year-old (and probably for most of the adults there as well), but Dick's brief but funny speech was the highlight of the night for me (and I wasn't even a Yankees fan). |

Here is a photo of me (on the right) and my brother with Muhammad Ali at an autograph signing in Detroit back in 1995. The Champ was doing magic tricks and having fun with everyone. When the photo was taken I was surprised , looked back and saw that he stood up and had his fist pushed up against my face. It was awesome! This was by far the most enjoyable time at a signing we had ever had.

Wayne was in town to see Boise play as they were looking to sign his son. Friend of mine points out Gretzky and he's just hanging out by the speed pitch contest thing. I approached and asked for a photo. He very graciously said yes and had his assistant take it. I thanked him, looked at the photo and it was great. I immediately called my wife, freaking out that I'd met one of my all-time idols - at a minor league baseball game! I hung up, went to look at the picture again and it was gone. This was before I had a smartphone and you had to manually save any photos and I had not done that. I was crushed. A couple minutes later, I saw Wayne walking through the tunnel to the seats. I apologized and asked for another pic. He says "sorry, just one" then gave me a big grin and we took another. I thanked him, went off to my seat, and looked at the pic. It was all shadow, completely worthless. I went to my seat and now I'm just kicking myself. I look over and Wayne is sitting maybe 2 boxes over from me. I asked the lady behind me if I should try one more and she says "why not? Worst he can do is say no". So I tried one last time. I apologized again, profusely and we took one more. That's the one you see in this thread. Through it all, Wayne was very kind, even funny. He even took off his sunglasses for the photo, a nice touch. He was largely left alone. The Indians sent an usher down to ask if he wanted people kept away and he said no. He signed any and all autographs, watched the game, and drank a beer or two. And then the Indians scored 6 in the bottom of the 9th to win 6-5. For a kid who grew up in Hockeytown, idolizing Gretzky, that night could not have been any better. |
Thought I would bring this post back to the top to see if any others have pics and stories they would like to share. It was really great to put faces to the names!
