Was very pleased to pick up this 72 Mays bat. This one came directly from a former player who played in the big leagues in the 60s and 70s. Fantastic bat, with great use and a great look.

February pick up
1 Attachment(s)
A Type I photo of game one of the 1947 World Series, featuring my favorite, Joe D.
Although it is a little hard to make out, Joe is running for home (he would make it, I think), and I believe that Jackie Robinson is at first (I used a magnifying glass)! I think it a cool little piece of baseball history. |

I haven't been very active lately. My most recent pickups have been small. The unscored program with the two attached ticket stubs is from opening day 1973 when the Pirates retired Clemente's number.

And Scott, I really like your new Hubbell photo. Solid. Also, in all my years of being a bb fan, I never looked up when Johnny V, gave up a hit in the 3rd game. Of course you know Scott. |

On the other hand, I recently had a $450 baseball bat arrive from a large auction house, simply bouncing about in a box. Now, when a customer sends detailed packing instructions, I understand their fears. |
I friggin' LOVE February!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Cow!!!!! I NEVER thought in my wildest dreams that I would add something like this to my Joe DiMaggio collection!!!!
Quick thanks to my girlfriend, who stopped at the post office for me (I work too late to get there), and signed for it. I have to make sure I clarify that it is not a real gamer. The seller said that Whitey and Mickey used to run a fantasy camp back in the '80s, and it is likely that it came from that. He had a Mantle companion jersey for sale with a similar inscription, and I was able to photo match that to Mick at fantasy camp in about 1 minute on Google, so I took the chance on Joe (I thought about Mick, but unfortunately, couldn't afford both). But I don't care, because I got the jersey that Whitey got right off Joe's back! |

1930 Tigers Yankees Scorecard
4 Attachment(s)
I picked up this unscored Tigers Yankees scorecard at an antique mall this weekend. It looks like someone wrote 1931 on the cover but I can date this to the 1930 season based on the roster lineups ( Bubbles Hargrave only played for the Yankees in 1930). This program is specifically from a series between the Tigers and Yankees played in Detroit on Sept. 12 thru Sept. 15. What helps me pinpoint this series and makes this find significant is that Hank Greenberg appears on the scorecard . The 19 year old Greenberg was a late season call up and would have his first MLB at bat during this series. This would be his only at MLB at bat for the season. He would pinch hit for the pitcher on Sept. 14th of this series going 0-1 however not striking out. It would be three more years before Greenberg would crack a MLB lineup. As a Tiger (and Greenberg) fan I am stoked to add this piece of history to my collection. One can only imagine the nerves the 19 year old kid must have felt stepping up to the plate for the first time against his home town team with the likes of Ruth and Gehrig looking on.

Brent, the bat measures 34.5 inches. Here are a few more pictures. Just got the bat today.

Bought this Yankee Stadium seat earlier today. Based on the research I've done, its an original one from 1923. Pretty good shape and I like that the paint has chipped in some areas so you can see the numerous coats/colors. Only significant damage it to the upper left. The top, rounded piece of the cast iron frame broke off. The previous owner said it disappeared years ago. Debating if I should have a piece made to fit it or just leave it alone. Thoughts?
|
Quote:
If you do decide to repair it, look for a crappy stadium seat that was similar in design. When i restored a Polo grounds chair, one of the top pieces was also broken off and lost. So I had a trash piece from a old yankee stadium seat and used that. |
