At long last I finally finished off my T213-2 Yankees set and picked up a Rose PC of Stahl. I have never seen him as a Yankee/Highlander

pawpawdiv9 01-31-2016 04:03 PM

Finally got my 1st Wagner, (the fan craze 1906) i been looking for months and gave up on.

btcarfagno 01-31-2016 04:13 PM

I got the Rube Marquard letter to Larry Ritter referencing the Ed Sullivan Show appearance.

Tom C

LEHR 01-31-2016 04:15 PM

Sadly, I struck out. I was the underbidder on two lots, the E254 Abbaticchio PSA 9 and the lot I most wanted, the c. 1908 Paddy O'Connor Cabinet Photo. Now I wish I'd have thrown at least another $100 at the O'Connor photo as it would have been a cool addition to my Pirates collection. If anyone here won the O'Connor and wants to sell down the road let me know.

Thats cool, my grandfather worked for CBS and did the Ed Sullivan show. I remember he also did Capt Kangaroo too. No telling whom he all met.

Kenny Cole 01-31-2016 04:34 PM

I won the Old Judge Kid Nichols and the Fan Craze Bill Dahlen.

made a run on the Coupon Cobb

x2drich2000 01-31-2016 04:50 PM

Really wanted the M101-1 Young, but just couldn't go any higher. Ultimately, I did pick up the Criger National Copper Plate for my personal collection.

Stoked to add this SUPER RARE postcard with Smokey Joe Wood and Addie Joss on it, and for only a fraction of the price it could be had on ebay. Teehee. ;)

Things did get a little pricey for my tastes, the only T206 I felt comfortable with was the Old Mill Gilbert. Registration isn't great but still a nice front/back combination from the T206 series.

Got the '67 Venezuelan Feller for the collection. Not too pricey, but not many copies around, so thought I'd jump. The PSA POP is something like 5 to 20 for all of those "Retirado" cards... Crazy

Nice pick ups everyone! I'm still chipping away at a T3 Turkey Red HOF sub set. This is an upgrade.

That's a really nice Addie Joss, Tony.

I picked up the Mino Speaker -- I saw the card in person, and this scan doesn't do it justice...so I'm pleased. :)

I won the T210-5 Painter for my set. I was also the underbidder on a few T209's.

BTW those Kalamazoo Bats cards are awesome. Esp like the one with the outfield and fence view in the background. Great cards.

I regret not going higher on the T205 Bresnhan Honest Long cut as it was the last one I needed to complete my back run of that card.

A fun auction for sure! I made the mistake of trying to stay up late for the end but ended up falling alseep. In hindsight I should have just went to be early and woke up at 5am! :)

I picked up a few nice cards, including the E92 Nadja Bender and T216 Cobb Kotton. Thought the T216 Mino Wagner went for a very impressive price. Scarcity, I suppose.
This my first experience with Love of the Game and so far so good. As yet, Have not received an e-invoice. Is this standard?

Derek.....nice pick-up of the Santurce Clemente....congrats! I was bidding but got out early on.

Unfortunately, I was only able to win a couple small pieces and wasn't able to win the Paddy O'Connor Cabinet or the PC796 Gibson. I went to college outside of Erie, so I thought the postcard was cool. Also picked up the Maple Crispette Jigger Statz as my interest in PCL history is growing.

I got a couple of PC796 (Walsh and Evers) and went a lot higher than I ever expected to go on a Branch Rickey Willard's Chocolate, but I totally forgot to bid on some HoFer W575-2s which I would have paid more than the final price on. If anyone here happens to have bought them and wants to flip them for a premium, please let me know.

Put in some late bids night of auction before going to bed. Was surprised to have won this super cool lot of early 1900's Winston Salem memorabilia. Love these early 1900's bats. I feel another addiction coming on....

ValKehl 02-02-2016 09:00 PM

Happy to pick up this 2-player OJ for my subset of Washington players plus this Worch Cigar/Orcago PC lot solely to obtain the Pinky Hargrave card for my 1924 Senators collection (will be selling the other 4 cards):

Derek, I am sorry to bump you a tad on the Walkovers PC. Nice pick-up, but I am surprised you didn't also get the Walkovers cabinet photo. I was also hoping to pick up that LaLonge portrait, but lost while sleeping. You said you over-paid on three of four lots, what were the other two?

ccre, I was under on that Lafitte, congrats on a nice card.

Oh, and I got the Walkovers cabinet photo, and the Virginia Extra Smith.

shernan30 02-03-2016 05:45 AM

This is my first auction not buying any cardboard. Picked up my first autographed bats mostly for the Larson and Fielder.

1) Ruben Sierra
2) Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez
3) Don Larsen
4) Bucky Dent
5) Cecil Fielder.

I have a c1909 Walkovers Team PC already, so it would have been overkill to grab the 1910 Cabinet as well!

As for the other two items, I got the 1953-54 Caguas Team Photo w/ Hank Aaron and the 1960 National Bank of Omaha "Proof" w/ Marichal. I hadn't even seen the Marichal until the last day of bidding...I guess it's always worth a second look to make sure you didn't miss anything the first time around.

Derek:

Great pick up on the Clemente premium. That was one that I was always after but alluded me as I never saw it come up for sale/auction in the 10 years that I was searching. Not sure if it is unique, most likely, there are a few surviving examples, but definitely a toughie....

Snapolit1 02-04-2016 02:07 PM

I picked up the yellow Gehrig. $7000 ($8400).

PSA 9 OC. I don't buy off center cards generally, but seriously thought that might go much higher. Guess the old centering bias lives on. Stunning card. For some reason the north-south centering issue doesn't bother me.

I'm never going to spend 6 figures for a Goudey Gehrig 9 that's not qualified. Took a flyer on this one and can't wait to see it in person.

Since my bid didn't move for a week I guess others saw it very differently and might think I'm crazy. I'm over the moon I got it.

IMO, some of the best deals are these less than perfectly centered cards, if you don't mind it. Especially lately as so much premium cash is being poured into perfectly centered stuff. Nothing against centering, but I will always be happy with clean OC cards.

Anxiously awaiting these pickups. I was waiting for the invoices to go out just be positive to know I had acquired them.
I have been wanting this postcard ever since the photo dissection post on net54 came out. Very interesting!
http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=19792
It was nice to find a Hindu without paper loss on the reverse and its a Johnny Evers portrait to boot.
http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=19789http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=19790
I wanted to upgrade my Lajoie portrait to a Piedmont 150 and not too concerned about the cut or double name
http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=19791
Finally I caught this Perry Tacoma Giants card towards the end of auction closing. I had bought one here before (Union Oil version) from another member, had it graded and turned around and sold it to another member for less, not sure why. Surprisingly this one cost me way less and it was autographed. Very low pop card but I dig the photo!

Nice grab on the Perry...that was my consignment. That card often sells for $150+ raw (when it rarely comes up for auction)...the autograph (and TPG putting the card in the holder backwards) really killed any chance for that card to sell for what it should. Great snag and at a killer price!

Clearly, this is a great example of an AH/consignor that does not shill or allow shilling. I would never have let that card sell for so little if I had put a "hidden reserve" on it! LOL!

I was back and forth on that one. I saw it sitting at $7000 for a while and nearly pulled the trigger. I'm with you, the north south shift doesn't bother me as much. It's a gorgeous card! Congrats!

I picked up the M101-1 Young I'm hoping to display with my autographed First day HOF cachet of him and Lajoie. Now if I can find the M101-1 Lajoie! Also got the Type I photo of Robinson stealing home from the George Michael collection for my type I collection.

I think Clean Sweep had an M101-1 Lajoie at one time, not sure if they still have it. I had a really nice one at one time but it's long gone. I still think it's one of the better rookie investments out there for pre-war HOF'ers.

Yep - Clean Sweep sold one (VG condition) on 10/7/15 for about $1,100 and Goodwin had a BGS 2.5 that sold for ~$1,130 on 7/11/2014. Not that I'm keeping track! :D

I'm still looking for the elusive 1897 Leslie's Weekly w/ Lajoie on the cover. One sold in a recent Hunt auction w/ a whole bunch of other items and went for way more than I was willing to pay (since I didn't have a clue what the other items were worth)!

Actually Derek I bought the union oil Perry from you before but I just didn't want to name drop. Thanks for the opportunity to pick this one up. Do you know if SGC would flip it around?

bcbgcbrcb 02-06-2016 04:29 AM

Derek:

The BGS Lajoie was mine, I think it was severely under-graded at 2.5. I had the Leslie's at one time too, it was beautifully matted and framed, that piece is probably out there somewhere, maybe will come up for auction soon.

Guess my post is a little late to the party but I figured I would share. The Flying Dutchman letter and the International League Season Pass were in my crosshairs from the start but as the auction went on I pulled the trigger on the 1928 Athletics team ball with HOF'ers Cobb, Grove (sweet spot) and Cochrane. The Orioles ties were part of my attraction to the ball. Jimmy Dykes was the first manager of the present day Baltimore Orioles and Lefty Grove who played 5 years on championship teams with the International League Bmore Orioles.
