Finally picked this card up for my MLB Post-war Rookie card set and also for my 69 Topps set (375 so far). I wish it was centered a little better as with most of my set, this will have to do.

A month early for Mr. October but man that is a suhweet card!

Mantle & Musial Exhibits
2 Attachment(s)
My wife convinced me to buy these cards on the way out of the East Coast National. The dealer had to remove the cover from his cases and find the case that had the cards. By the time he did all that I knew I was going to feel obligated to buy the cards.
They were both newly SGC graded. I cracked them both out and brought them back the next day and submitted them to PSA. Now I'll have to keep these cards forever: Mantle and Musical (how she referred to the cards). |
Juss bein' nosy.....
Can you share the SGC grades with us ? Thanks.

for sure! Musical to my ears!! ;)
|
I have never paid a lot of attention to the Exhibits, but I am thinking I need to...
|

Musial SGC 8 I thought the Mantle was undergraded but felt that if I left it in the SGC holder there was no way PSA would have graded it higher. I was surprised that Musial went down .5 but was OK with it. |
Buy The Subgrade , Not The Card

..." Centering : 9.5 " on any '65 Topps leaders card is grounds in itself for hitting the button ; Killer , Boog and Mick on the other side is just icing on the cake... .. |
Very nice! Love those leader and the special cards topps put out!
|
Picked up some cards out of the mail today and am puuuuummpped!
Ive now got a 54-55-56 Jackie run going. Ill be sending this card in to PSA soon. Centering is just what I was looking for! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/image_14.jpg I have always loved the simple and clean layout of the 70's http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/image_16.jpg And love this one! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/image_15.jpg Another Clemente with very solid, to my untrained eyes, centering http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/image_12.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/image_10.jpg Hard to comprehend sometimes how a card can get from 1951 to today and still be pack fresh! And then there is this card that was included gratis from the seller! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/image_11.jpg |

...unopened and clean......thankfully it had been stored very well since it was new ..... I was thinking : the kid had fifteen cents ...and he could have bought THREE nickle PACKS of 1952 Topps.... but instead he bought this ---one 1952 "Star Cal Decals" of Willie Mays. Now that's a true fan...we all had our heroes I guess.... ..I don't remember which year but Mr. Mays once had twenty stolen bases, 20 doubles , 20 triples , and 20 roundtrips by the end of the regular season.... and those numbers held up all the way until 2007 , when Curt Granderson of my Tigers also put up those identical stats. Neat. .. |

Got it at a super deal so I grabbed it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Nice. 1969 is my favorite Ryan card...plus it's the year of the Miracle Mets!

At least 1969 Topps 1,100,200,300,400,500 and 600

It's going to take me awhile to finish the set so I thought I would celebrate getting the 1st card in each stack.
I just bought #600 Oliva which gives me 370/664. I think it's going to take a long time to get the last 290+. |
Cool photos! Love the funky perspective of the stacks leaping up at the eye.
|
OT: whenever I see that 1969 card #1 I have to chuckle. Danny Cater finished second in the 1968 batting title race…when he only batted .290!!!!!!!!!!! A measly .290 got him forever on a leaders card. (Golf clap.)
Edited to add: If you look on the back of the card, the top 50 batters are listed. 21 of them batted below .250, and the last player listed is Paul Blair at .211. The year of the pitcher indeed!! |
Yaz had a big September
Don't forget that Yaz entered September batting .285, trailing Oliva at .289. He batted around .370 or so in September just to get to .301.
Without his big Septmeber the AL batting champion would have been .290 |

This was an early birthday present to myself. Just came today and I was blown away by it, in hand. I have never been happier with a card purchase than this one. As happy, yes, but never happier.
I suspected it was sitting a little crooked in the eBay scan, which it was (this is the eBay scan; I am far too lazy right now to do another). I would bet the farm this card-- if cracked and resubmitted-- will come back an 8. In this rare case I think I have to do just that. I've had mis-graded 7s go to 9s in the past, and this card seems as much a lock as those rare instances were. Over the moon with this Mick! http://photos.imageevent.com/mattyc/...antlePSA65.JPG |
|
I remember opening an 88 Fleer wax box with my brother, which our father bought us. Aside from that fond memory, I have always found that set so nice to look at. The Donny from that set is one of my favorite cards of all time. The Smoltz is a great photo, and the sig looks great on it.
|
Thanks Matt, was pleasantly surprised when I opened the envelope today...looked better in person than it did in the EBAY scan.

I sure would not have that card regarded - PSA has been disappointing me that way this year and I would hate to see you loose a 6.5 - be satisfied...that is a great card! But that's just my opinion...I'm happy with my PSA-5. . . |
Just got this one in the mail for my '52 set. I've NEVER seen this one so well centered, and paid a hefty premium for it, but totally worth it.

^^^Beautiful card! '52s almost look unnatural when they're centered that perfectly. :)
Congrats on the Mantle, Matt! |
Okay not a exactly a card...but a cool 73 box!

Bunch of great cards yall!
That's pretty solid centering on the 52 Topps Ashburn. The ines ive seen are pretty gnarly centering wise. And the 53 Bowmans are just stunningly beautiful cards. Congrats on both! |
The centering on that 52 is freaky rare.
Love all the bats in the BG of the 53B Ashburn photo, cool image. Copped this off eBay auction last night. Could've added a seasick tilt-y 9 the other day at a nice price, but decided to pay a premium for the nicer 8; liked the minimal tilt and way the three white borders looked so even at the bottom area of the card around the black name box. Always liked Mick's glare in this shot. http://photos.imageevent.com/mattyc/...ppsMantle8.JPG |
Man, I just can't compete with you guys anymore! So switching genres, I grabbed the 1991 Premiere "Rap Pack" set for next to nothing. Highlights below.

Very nice pick up!! Those 1974 OPC cards are tough to find compared to other issues from that time. |

How anyone could ever authenticate a Greg Maddux autograph short of watching him sign it escapes me. He should have been a doctor............

That could also be the signature for Xavier Nady........
p.s. not disparaging your card Rob.....just Maddux signature........ |

Surprise pick up at lunch today. (Sorry for big pic). Lower grade, but the price was right. Decent centering. Very slowly but surely working on '57.

Nice pick up. In the collecting world I live in, that is definitely not "lower grade". I would take cards like that in a heartbeat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
That's the one 1957 I really wish I had. Well, okay, Mantle also. But wow! Lovely RC of one of the greatest ever!
|
Thanks guys. I stopped in this coin shop on a whim. I had been in there in the past but probably not in 5 years. He has a little section of vintage. He said $70 and I said sold! There are a couple corner creases up top, worse on the right. Had always wanted this card but never really expected to own it. Made my day!

Wrong bird for you :)

Updated a few more of my Mantles...love the overall eye appeal on both.

Now this 55 Bowman Mantle I picked up from a few days ago from a fellow Net54 member for my set is low grade. |
Very nice Mantles. That 60 is especially noteworthy for the lack of PD, the focus of the main picture, the batting Mick also doesn't have that "caved in" face thing that many have due to registration issues-- and of course the centering. Well done on that pickup!
Saw a centered 74 Schmidt with no PD and had to jump all over it last night on eBay. http://photos.imageevent.com/mattyc/...dtPSA9PWCC.JPG |

AWESOME card you got there, sir. Great pickup! |
Awesome Schmidt Matt! I have a PSA 8 and a SGC 88. That's a primo card of my favorite player.

Holy Cow that 58 Mick is sweet-- great overall eye appeal with the focus and color and centering all there. Congrats! One of his best looking cards.
Thx Eric and Arex; always felt 74 Schmidt is kinda slept on, since it's his first solo card. Also has so many frequent problems outta the pack. |
Couple more 1952 Highs........
