Who is the One Player Whose Card You Still Do Not Have, But Want?

Mine is Denny Lyons

brianp-beme 07-02-2015 01:08 AM

RC

Ray Chapman. This tragic figure in baseball history has just plain eluded me for years.

Brian

frankbmd 07-02-2015 02:56 AM

The only player to have a team and a bingo palace named after him, the original Cleveland Indian, Louis Sockalexis.

bnorth 07-02-2015 05:01 AM

Ted Williams for me. Ever since I started collecting in the mid 80's I wanted the 59 Fleer Ted Williams set. But for some reason I never got it even though I had several chances over the years. For the last 2 years I looked at every set listed on eBay and never pulled the trigger.

I am happy to say that after 30 years I did pick up the set a couple months ago from a Net54 member(Paul S). I got a amazing set at an even more amazing price and have looked through and read the backs so many times I think I could tell you the story on the back of every card.:D

Kenny Cole 07-02-2015 05:44 AM

Pete Hill. Since there are only three cards of him known, that's pretty much the impossible dream. Right behind him I would pick Bill Foster, who is even harder :(

Joshwesley 07-02-2015 05:49 AM

I'm a new collector and just want a t206 cobb....

I've watched many auctions and just can't find the one that I want to pull the trigger on.
I'm sure I'll end up with the red portrait in the 1.5-2 condition catagory but of course I'm just looking for the "perfect one"
Just pull the trigger already josh!

kkkkandp 07-02-2015 07:08 AM

So many "gotta haves" and so little time (and money :D)...

I could easily rattle off 20+ Old Judges I'd love to have (including a Wilson and a Scheibeck I formerly owned, but had to part with for different reasons), but it has always been a dream of mine to own at least one card from the scarcest player list, so I'll go with Jake Wells (because his post-baseball life was so interesting) followed very closely by William Veach (because his nick name was so cool).

btcarfagno 07-02-2015 07:09 AM

Have never owned a Tom Seaver rookie, and haven't had a Stargell rookie since I was a kid. When I find the right ones, I will pull the trigger, especially if the Stargell is signed.

Growing up they were my two favorite players.

Jobu 07-02-2015 07:29 AM

I think that would be King Kelly for me.

Enfuego 07-02-2015 07:38 AM

Any Satchel Paige will do just fine for me.

Cmount76 07-02-2015 08:02 AM

Although there are a few that I would love to have and will probably never own, I'd have to say Ten Million.

ullmandds 07-02-2015 08:03 AM

i do not have any wagners anymore...would like to add another at some point to keep forever and ever. And a Rob D card as well!:p

Don't rush Josh, hold out for the one that really meets all your criteria. It'll be worth it. Good luck.

And for me it's Ed Delahanty. Preferably in an N173 cabinet. So I'll just keep on, how you say, waiting.

pawpawdiv9 07-02-2015 08:22 AM

A FanCraze Wagner card. I like it better than the polo grounds or Barker playing cards.
Just couldnt afford the nice PSA 9 on Ebay, that seem it sold a few weeks +/- ago.

packs 07-02-2015 09:00 AM

I've wanted a Cy Young T206 portrait for a while, but waiting for the right one at the right price. Same goes for a E95 Wagner. Been chasing a Ray Chapman M101 and Ten Million Obak for a while too.

atx840 07-02-2015 09:10 AM

Ultimately I wanted a T206 Plank to give to my son, hopefully one day I have the opportunity to acquire one.

pokerplyr80 07-02-2015 11:24 AM

Joe Jackson and Cap Anson for me. Specifically the N162 Anson and E90-1 Jackson, but I would be thrilled with almost any card from either of those two.

DHogan 07-02-2015 11:32 AM

Ty Cobb for me.

Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Bob Mabe.

Kenny, I thought there was only ONE EXAMPLE EACH, of Pete Hill's Cabanas and Punch cards. What am I missing?

Oh, and currently my "one player" whom I need is fellow Negro Leaguer, Andy Cooper, preferably either his Billiken or Tomas Gutierrez.

Kenny Cole 07-02-2015 04:58 PM

Ken,

I could be wrong, but I think there are two Punch cards of Hill.

pclpads 07-02-2015 05:45 PM

Not true vintage, as I don't collect that, but '56T Courtney in white back. Need it to finish off my '56T sub set. Just isn't one out there. :(

Amazing list folks-

Interesting that three of the most common names here are Zeenut players.

For me, Lefty O'Doul -- particularly looking for the red-bordered variety

I'd really like to get a Taylor Shafer Old Judge. I'd even trade an SGC40 Player's League card for one, which is a pretty lopsided deal

There is one on CheckOutMyCards right now, although it's vg at best.

Ty Cobb - would love a T3, but would gladly "settle" for either of the T206s or a T205 :)

N162 King Kelly. Still looking for just the right card at just the right price ;)

argpdt 07-09-2015 06:34 PM

I really want a pre 1920 Ty Cobb. He is the last of the first 5 HOFers that I don't have.

Vintagecards1914 07-15-2015 05:16 PM

For me it would be a Cracker Jack Ty Cobb. I've wanted one for awhile, and I've been hoping to find a 1, or a 1.5 in 14 or 15. love the cool batting stance portrait, someday soon I hope

I have ALWAYS wanted the T206 Plank, but ala$....

My current "gotta have" is the T205 Addie Joss, but...completing my basic set will likely come down to this card...

Wish me luck!

I'm not an Old Judge collector, but I would sure love to pick up a Delahanty w/bat. Love the image.

Agree with Luke OJ are too expensive for me. That said I'd love to own a Dick Buckley.

And obviously all 4 Cobb T206s :D

Christy Mathewson.

JustinD 07-16-2015 08:56 AM

As far as cards from a players actual playing days, I am hoping to get everyone on my wish list.

I am in the process of rebuilding now after having to sell most of my collection due to illness. But realistically, this one will forever be out of reach -

Eddie Plank

I have a Fatima athletics team card that I say is my Plank in my prewar post 1900 type collection -trying to get at least one of each hofer - but it just doesn't feel right.

Also need a Delehanty, Burkett, and chesbro .

+1--have a particularly rare one in mind, with a continuing ebay search for it. Might take quite awhile, though.

Best to all,

Picking one player is an impossibility for me.

Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig
Shoeless Joe Jackson
Ty Cobb
Honus Wagner
Cap Anson
Christy Mathewson
Joe DiMaggio
Mickey Mantle
Ted Williams

That's just for starters. The list is long, but distinguished.

Matty

For you good folks here - the T206 Matty white cap in a nice PSA 5 or higher is tough, way tougher than you may think. Shhhh!

Joshchisox08 06-01-2016 11:59 AM

Cobb T206 .........easy

obcbobd 06-01-2016 04:06 PM

Honus Wagner, but not the T206. Ever since I was a kid in the 70s I always liked him, he seemed like a nice guy and a great player. He was a stud in the Sports Illustrated All-Time Greats BB game, because he could almost steal at will.

If I ran across a T206 Wagner (hey my house was built in 1885, its possible) I would sell it and by a Caramel or Cracker Jack one, and pay off my mortgage with the rest of the proceedes. I'd also by a 33 Goudey Ruth #144 (my all time fav card) like the one Leon was displaying a while back. For now I'm saving my pennies!

Bob

Tom Seaver rookie. He was my favorite pitcher growing up. I have had tons of other rookies from that era but for some reason have never owned a Seaver rookie. I'm not really looking for one at the moment, but I'm sure some day I will get me one.

the 'stache 06-01-2016 06:55 PM

Good topic, Raymond! It's very hard for me to pick just one name. I could go with Ruth and Gehrig, Cobb, Shoeless Joe, Aaron, Mays, Jackie, Stan the Man, Matty and Tris, Joltin' Joe or Mick....but I think I'll have to go with Ted Williams. As soon as I can star collecting again, Ted will be knocked off my want list.

Pilot172000 06-01-2016 07:07 PM

Honus Wagner followed closely by Eddie Plank. I'm in the middle of a Wagner Biography and he is really calling me through the cardboard!

TheNightmanCometh 06-01-2016 07:26 PM

A nicely centered, low PSA graded, 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie. That'll be the last card I get for my set because it's the holy grail of my set and I'm hoping that this bubble will burst and I'll actually be able to afford it.

Billy5858 06-01-2016 07:29 PM

Wouldn't take much to make me happy.
Either a low grade E90 or 1914 not 1915 CJ Joe Jackson
or a mid grade centered green Cobb.
No biggie......
