Crosley Field Turnstyle
At any other time, I would probably spend the time looking into this one, but am waiting on decision (and holding cash) for a significant pre-war Reds uniform at this point in time.

FYI, Bryan Snyder was the pass agent for the railroad in St. Louis (Frisco Railway) that was responsible for transporting many of the ML teams. Here is my pass from 1901 St. Louis Cardinals that was also issued to Bryan Snyder. In 1901, HOF Christy Mathewson pitched his 1st of two career no-hitters as a 22 year old pitcher in St. Louis... |

1970 Rose All Star Game Bat
1 Attachment(s)
Scott,
Thanks. When I started rebuilding my Reds collection, I told myself I was only going to acquire Crosley Field Era items. The last game at Crosley Field was 24 June 1970 and the 1970 All Star Game in Cincinnati was held on 14 July 1970, so this is just a wee bit outside of that. 1970 was the first year I really followed baseball, and having grown up in Cincinnati during this epic season, I just could not pass up the chance. I only wish I still had this tee-shirt that I had my school picture taken in that year. My mom was horrified when they sent these home as I neglected to tell her when pictures where taken. Dave Grob DaveGrob1@aol.com |
That's great Dave!! Who'd have guessed it would lead to such a monumental Reds Collection?
I had a shirt just like that in 3rd grade, but white. It may still be packed away somewhere. Now I've really gotta find it! |
Love the photo, Dave! ;)

1960's era White Sox gamer
4 Attachment(s)
I (try to) narrow my collecting to '60's era Chisox gamers and unique memorabilia. The low budget White Sox recycled uniforms as much as or maybe more than any team that decade. Over the last four decades I've kept an eye peeled for all-original jerseys from that time period - to little avail. Fortunately, and very humbly, lucked out on this one earlier and recently framed it. It's a fantastic 1968 powder blue road (two year style) and all original (numbers, nob, tag etc).
:rolleyes:If you have or know anyone that may have original White Sox gamers from the period and possibly interested in selling or trading, I'd sure like to hear from you. Thank you Bob :) |

Got this great signature of Joe in the mail today. It is already in a frame, but I have no more wall space in the baseball room to hang it; so I think in the morning, it will hang in the hallway. G-friend giving me the raised eyebrow...'cause things are starting to spill out into the rest of the house...
Thanks to Dave for making the deal!!!!! |

This may sound totally crazy to most. Perhaps it will serve as evidence of how troubling my addiction to the 1971 Pirates is. I have been looking for any piece of memorabilia related to Lorenzo “Rimp” Lanier for a number of years. He is the gentleman depicted in my avatar. Rimp is the most obscure member of the 1971 Bucs. He was on the Pirate roster for six games between Sept 11th - 26th He came to the plate four times. He struck out once and reached base one time after being hit by a pitch. He never played an inning of defense. He was left off the post season roster. He returned to the minor leagues and never suited up for another major league team again.
Due to these factors I thought there was no memorabilia to serve as evidence of his rumored contributions to my all-time favorite team. Last week I came across a group of 1971 team issued photos on eBay. I thought I already had them all. Normally I wouldn’t have even given them a second glance. For some reason this time I did. I was stunned to see there in between Milt May and Bruce Kison was my pal Rimp! His uncertain expression reflected his tenure. As crazy as it sounds I placed a max bid of $100 for the opportunity to bring Rimp home. In the end his ransom was only $38.11. I would have gladly paid the $100 to return him to the team. I can’t imagine that many of these were printed. Heck…I surprised that ANY were printed. I know it is the only one I have ever seen. This is why I love this hobby so much, such silliness bringing joy to an otherwise mundane summer day. Now I have to change that avatar.:D |

Now, tell us....how the hell did he come to be called "Rimp"?  |

Dave, Awesome Pinson bat what an under rated player he was. Are the others also 1961 world series bats? I know those are hard to come by.
Ron, nice Cano judging by the ball marks it certainly couldn't be from this season:rolleyes: |
1961 Reds
Only the Pinson is a WS bat. Others are period H&Bs. One of my favorite questions about the Reds of the 60s is this. Pete Rose had the highest batting average of the decade at .309. Frank Robinson had the most home runs for the decade with 190. Who was it that drove in more runs than any other Reds player during the 1960s? The answer is Vada Pinson with 722.

Boston Beaneaters 1892
2 Attachment(s)
Took a chance on this today because I love the connection to early Boston baseball. Nichols, Clarkson, Duffy & McCarthy (though no Kelly) on this exhibition scorecard from Princeton. Does anyone have any other info on this game? The scorekeeping is a bit strange.
|
I was watching that auction go off, as well as all the other Princeton scorecards (got out bid on a few of them). Nice pickup! You did well. The seller did not know this was the Boston Beaneaters and all the players.

Not a new pickup but just framed this today. I had Fergie sign it a couple of years ago in Cooperstown.

1968 Pete Rose Road Jersey
3 Attachment(s)
Just my opinion, the prettiest and the toughest of the Reds post war uniforms to find in all original condition. From the year of Pete's first National League batting title and his first Sports Illustrated cover. Interesting that in 1968, "The Year of the Pitcher", Bob Gibson wins the NL MVP and NL CY, but the St. Louis based Sporting News names Rose the NL Player of the Year.
This one is off to Cincinnati as well.. Dave Grob DaveGrob1@aol.com |
Freshly back from the framer...

I recently picked up this vintage poster/color photo of Vander Meer that originated from the July 24th, 1938 NY Sunday News- New York's picture newspaper. The Sunday News produced several of these neat looking color pictures of key players of the day during the 1930's and 1940's.
I've always liked this image and finally found one in pretty remarkable shape. I had it custom framed with a copy of an original snapshot that I own of the celebration that occurred after Vandy's 2nd consecutive no-hitter on June 15th, 1938- the 1st night game at Ebbets Field. The caption below the image reads: "Johnny Vander Meer, No-Hit King" Below that it says: "The Cincinnati southpaw's feat of pitching two consecutive no-hit games against Boston and Brooklyn set an all-time major league record. He is 23, 6 ft. tall, weighs 190 and calls Midland Park, NJ his home town." Check it out... |

Lots of cool stuff ths month. I especially like the Gehrig photo (natch) as well as the Vandermeer and Ott Daily news inserts. They made some really nice ones back them. Great pictures with a real artistic feel.
I have a couple of Gehrig as well. Framed them myself 1936 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...5-05202607.jpg 1939 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...5-05215832.jpg |

1928 IHSAA State Finals Program
1 Attachment(s)
I picked up this 1928 Indiana High School Basketball State Finals Program recently. It features the Martinsville team led by John Wooden. The game took place at Butler Fieldhouse, now known as Hinkle Fieldhouse. This was only the 17th year the tournament had been held. Still need the ticket stub from this final.

http://www.casesforcollectibles.com/acrylicboxes.html You can name your size (H X L X W) as they're custom-made. They are crystal clear, yet affordable. I've had 7-8 of these made with great results. There's another similar company out there which you can Google as well. It would look great displayed this way! |
Circa 1910 Hockey Goalie Stick

A ball that was in my wife's uncle's possession. Kelly Mike owned a sporting goods store in Wheeling, WV. Anyone from the area may remember Kelly Mike's?
Johnny Blatnik was also from the area, but had a really short career. On a Ford Frick National League ball. |
Been looking for this one
