Heritage Auction Wins

I was able to pick up this T207 Kelly with Cycle back last night. Who else here won cards in that auction? I am kicking myself for not going after the E94 Byrne overprinted (Three Strikes!) back. It went low.
|
I got skunked on everything I was bidding on. Gah!
Tom C |
My bids also went nowhere--but I do like the half-hour close for each lot. In general the many top-graded e90s went well under estimates. Does it seem caramel cards--speaking very very generally and not including CJs--have been in decline? Also, a lot of he most pricey CJs also failed to reach low end of estimates--when they said "2000 and up" they were often lucky to reach $1500.

I was going after the Hugh Duffy N173 but lost out. I thought it went for a really nice price for a HOFer.
The Glasscock N173 was gorgeous. Really strong price for that one. |

Strayed from the Monster to pick up these two for my Keeler collection :D

I had four primary targets . . .

I helped drive the price up on the N173 Glasscock but just couldn't pull the trigger at $3k. I didn't expect it to go that high at all.
|
I think the vast majority of caramel cards have either stagnated or have been on a steady decline. 1930s cards of players not named Ruth or Gehrig have performed similarly.

Ya' never know on estimates. I saw some that were low. I am not sure if I am going backward or forward with this one? And I don't know what my focus is going to be in the Luckey Collection II but this will be in it. I said yesterday that I thought high grade collecting was fine. And then there is collector grade....again, with no disrespect meant to us collectors. It's only terminology... |
Gorgeous card, Leon.
|
Nice cards, Luke! Had my eye on the E90-1 for a bit as well.
Nice to see you haven't lost the bug, Leon. Awesome Young! |
I won 4 T205s last night.
|
Still bidding... Won the 52 Topps set -1 and plenty of other things... If anyone has a Mantle I am looking for one to complete the set.
|
I struck out on the Boston Store Cobb and E103 Wagner.
Anyone else think that the majority of the T204's went really cheap? Tony |
Win some, lose some
I have 2 more to go on my E95 set - Wagner and Cobb, two very nice cards in last nights HA auction. I kept at it last night, up, re-upped, etc - finally threw in the towel on each. Beautiful cards but couldn't justify any more given prices and trends IMO and kept telling myself to be patient. I was the under-bidder on both - congratulations to whomever won those! Especially the Wags, very nice card!
I did win the E95 Leach (that was one of the nicest 5.5's I've seen in a while, dead centered and very clean! Also the Willis in a 6 - both of which upgrade a bit over what I have. ErikV - thank you for noticing these and what I needed! I might have overlooked otherwise. |
Nice Cy, Leon. That was an amazing run of American Caramels offered.
|
Picked this one up - very happy, considering what it sold for at REA last year.

I put in max bids on an E98 PSA-7 Eddie Grant & a 1914 Cracker Jack PSA-5 Hank Gowdy, but missed them both.
|
Took the o-fer but am kicking myself on not going for more on the E90 Shean
|
As I noted elsehere, I am so disappointed about not getting a CJ that I am trolling for anyone feeling buyers' remorse or otherwise wanting to sell PSA 6 or higher one...
|
Did anyone here get the T213-1 Cobb? I love that card.

I went 0-8. I'm buying a new bat and hitting the batting cages.

most n162's
went unreal high... no wins :-(
|
Awesome, Jeff.

Congrats on the wins. Some nice cards in here so far.

Hi I'm Paul from Pennsylvania(just outside of Christy Mathewson's hometown). Lost out on the Matty W600 after $5000 I did pick up the E90 -1Wagner though.
|
Great cards, Steve and Paul!
I also had my eye on the W600 Mathewson, Paul, but it flew out of my stratosphere as well. :) The Wagner you picked up is a very nice alternative (the good registration really helps that card). |

Thanks Chuck. I agree on the registration on the Wagner but I thought the price was right compared to the REA sold last week. This week marks my first foray into the non e-bay auctions. I also picked up a few things from Goldin Auctions. Would appreciate all advice as I'm returning to collecting after a long absence.

my pickup, I'm pleased

Any theory on WaJo t206 Sovereign PSA 3 going for $2200 or so? Hope it's real, as I have a 2. Write-up claimed it might be undergraded but can't believe it's just that....
I'm wondering if a lot of the CJ 14s went below what I (and they) guessed because market finally cooling a bit -- or simply with so many CJ cards to bid on (an entire collection) the wealth was spread around and some cards topped out early. Your thoughts? |
Dave, sweet looking Joe Jax, Congrats!

Scored several upgrades to my Goudey set. Many thanks to the genius handling the Stuckemeyer collection. Your not answering emails saved me a bundle. :D:D:D

Ron, fantastic pickups. What's your grade average on the set?
|
Thanks Jay, around 87.25. I am afraid reaching 88 is just a dream. :D:D:D

Thanks Jay, around 87.25. I am afraid reaching 88 is just a dream. I would have checked the SGC Registry to find the exact number, but I don't have all day. :D:D:D

Congrats all on some really nice wins. I struck out.

I was bidding on a 1938 Goudey Ernie Lombardi PSA 7. I tapped out when it hit $800 ( I have to factor in buyers premium plus exchange rate) and it finished at $2400. Afterwards I saw that it's quite low on the pop report. High end Big Heads go for Big Bucks!

Was very suprised when i looked at my Email and saw i won something, the 1 thing i bidded on and WON IT!!! OMG!!!!
My 2nd COBB, now onto the bat/on and off version to do my 4 Cobb run. |

My only win is this T207 Cycle of George Mogridge for both my type collection and my 1924-Senators-players collection:

But, I was the under-bidder on the card I really wanted - this recently discovered 1917 Merchants Bakery card of WaJo. I just couldn't bring myself to bid higher, as I felt it was already above what it should sell for. In fact, it went for the same price, $2,868, as the nice looking 1922 Gassler's Bread card of Ty Cobb, which surprised me, as I thought the Cobb would sell for more. In fact, each of the six lots of Merchants Bakery cards (lots 80971 - 80976) went for a good bit more than I expected them to (e.g., the SGC 20 Eppa Rixey sold for $1,314). I'm wondering if the same bidder won all six lots - does anyone know who won these?
