Very nice! I still have some things I want to matte still on the fence if I am going to attempt or not.

BTW, it's really sad to hear that Mr. Howe is not doing too well health wise these days. He's a genuine icon. |
Howe piece came out really nice Scott.
|
Beautiful, Scott. A beater looks better framed than a nice one imo.
|
Scott that turned out great!
|
........
|
I love the old sweaters! Beautiful Ruth ball!
|
Thanks.

January Pick up

I actually picked up this Teddy Ballgame a month or so ago and just got around to posting. I purchased and sold a vintage Ted Williams George Burke 4x6 photo a year or so ago and was regretting it...so I was glad to add this one to my collection. The back has vintage notation explaining how the signature was obtained during the summer of 1941, which I thought made it even more special.

Thanks for posting this, Andrew! |
Nice pickups Rob, I especially like the signed Ryan/Koosman card.

I'm setting the bar pretty high for myself in 2015, not sure if I will find a tougher signed HOF rookie card the rest of this year.
Casey Stengel Signed 1916 Sporting News M101 Rookie Card with Blank back and with full JSA Letter. |
Stengel
congrats Giovanni!

I absolutely love the Stengel and the Louis. Just fantastic

Beginning my Presidential quest...I added this Andrew Johnson signed pardon document from 1867...
|
Awesome piece James!
My collection to date has not extended beyond baseball autographs but I've been researching early American presidential and political autographs for quite a while now, I find them fascinating and your piece is really cool. |

In rough shape, but still happy to own...Land Grant signed by James Madison (twice) and James Monroe...
|
Just picked up this neat Jim Thorpe signed Moccasin sole. I suppose it was used to get the imprint of his foot so that the moccasin could be made. The autograph has some issues but there is also an address inscription that is in his hand.
Simply the tie in with his Native American culture is enough to make this a very interesting piece to me. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psc6ffd67e.jpg Tom C |
Tom,
A very cool piece!! |

Teddy Ballgame
I saw that, nice pick up Scott! Is that a 4x6 or 9x11?
|
I think it's more like 8x10

I hope everyone's year is starting well . I have a few January pick ups; it has indeed been a good start to the year with great deals available. I am posting pics of those items I have now. I will be receiving 5-6 more items this month and will post pics of them as long as you all don't get bored with them.
None of these are new players to my collection just additional signatures of players on different mediums or with full name signatures or vintage playing days signatures. 1. A vintage Stanly Covelski, which is not his usual older and shaky signature. 2. A Zack Wheat with the rarer and alternate "Z" formation. 3. A vintage 1933 Joe Medwick album page. 4. A full large format check from Waite Hoyt 5. A full name Bill Dickey check 6. A HLS from Earle Combs 7. A vintage Charles Gehringer photo Happy Collecting |
I was absolutely loving that Gehringer photo, all the way till I scrolled to the bottom and saw that damn sticker!!!

congrats! |
Thanks guys, that photo even with the JSA sticker was too pretty to pass up.
I imagine one day walking through the National Archives and seeing a JSA sticker in the bottom front corner on the Declaration of Independence. |

Finally picked up a Goudey Cronin. I have been outbid on his cards so maybe times at the last minute.
|
Congrats on the Cronin!
It is such a great feeling to finally get that which has eluded us for so long. |
Oscar Charleston
Watch for this bad boy in the next LOTG auction!!

Added a couple more vintage signed baseballs. The Zim is on a 50's AA ball. I believe the Ennis is on a 50's ball; if anyone knows how to date these, I'd love to know.

Sal Maglie signed 1957 Topps card
3 Attachment(s)
Although Sal Maglie is not a particularly difficult sig to find, I have been looking for a long time to find a nice ball point pen signed example on his '57 Topps card that features him in his Brooklyn Dodgers uni.
In 1956, Sal Maglie pitched a no-hitter while he was a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. This signed card will make a nice compliment to the two congratulatory telegrams that Sal The Barber received after his no-no. |

Just picked up this nice John Quincy Adams...

Jays HOF'er Robbie Alomar
2 Attachment(s)
Pls excuse the modern era post, but for a Jays fan one can't go back further than 1977, and as iconic Jays go, one can hardly do better than Roberto Alomar. Robbie graciously signed my 1992 WS ball at a Jays Winter Road Tour stop luncheon here in Calgary this afternoon.
|
Is it the photo or is it my eyes but has Alomar's signature changed recently? It looks nothing like my ball and photo that I got 10 years ago.
Just curious. |
Quote:

It is a nice autograph but I guess it is another example of the deteriorating signature of the American athlete.
It was never like this in my opinion until the late 1990s early 2000s. |

The Reds caravan was at the local mall a couple hours ago and Joe Morgan was there. I have had this card signed by Rose and Perez since 85 or 86 amd have wanted to get Morgan to sign it ever since. 30 years later l finished the card. I also had him sign a ball that also has Mantle, Grimes, Terry, Hubble, Ford, Jackson, Kaline, Gehringer, Mize, Feller, Sewell amd Dickey. I figured thay eventually l would have toay to get the card signed but got it done no charge.
|
Congratulations on finishing the card....a long wait but worth it. You must feel good.
|
Quote:
Nice! |
Congrats! Morgan is a notorious grouch when it comes to signing for free. How was his mood?

I got my 2014 Phil Hughes game used jersey signed. This is one of my coolest and quite possibly rarest item I have. The importance of this is that he wore this jersey en route to setting the MLB record for best strikeout/walk ration in history.

Brent,
I remember the name, because it so unique....he had some issues with failed tests, right? Pitcher if I remember correctly? |

Probably remember the quietly infamous headline "Guardado traded for a Hamburher" lol. Yessir, when he was with the Pads or 'Stros I believe. And yes, a pitcher. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Met Mark Hamburger last year when Rochester was in town playing a series against the local AAA team. Easily one of the nicest players I've met in the last several years.

My best January pick up. My first son Anthony born on January 15th, and his first autograph. The ball with the foot print has already been sent to PSA for authentication : )
I hope that he ends up loving this hobby like me, but I guess he is off to a good start. |
Simply awesome, Giovanni! That Ruth signed 3 x 5 is pretty sweet too... :)
|
Congrats on the birth of your son Giovanni!! Also love the footprint on the ball idea and that is a really nice Ruth.
|
Congrats on the Babe Ruth auto and new addition. Love the idea of the footprint Giovanni. You're a good dad.
|
Quote:
Glad I didn't have to follow that pickup!!! What a blessing! Congrats my friend. I am so going to steal the footprint on a ball idea, that's brilliant. That'll go perfectly with my signed ball from my girlfriend when we have kids at some point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Bet that "signed" ball is the most valuable piece in your collection. Congrats!
|
Great idea for a signing, Giovanni. I waited too long and will have to use a basketball.
