Mine would have to be the Ruth eclipse - I have always wanted one, but anytime I saw any for sale they were all out of my price range - till I found this beauty! lol

Can't
I'm already breaking the rules, I know, but I can't name just one when I was lucky enough to win both of these at the same time--scarce promo cards from the already tough Successful Farming set:

I have been extremely fortunate this year and have picked up a number of great cards that have long been on my want list. However, if I had to choose, it would be one of these two. I just don't know which one.

It's been a good year for my sets and Hindu HOFers. I'm most thankful for these two. I was in the right place at the right time to get each of these in a straight sale at a fair price from a board member:

Happy Thanksgiving neighbours!
Only twice has this type of error become available in the last 10 years, both times I was the bridesmaid. Acquired it from a collector who never needs to sell a card. Very thankful. Shown many times. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2884/...7e8ddb9a_c.jpg |
I am always thankful to pick up a Nebraska Indians item that I didn't have, but especially when it's an item I'd not seen before.

Not prewar or worth more than $1 but this card was my white whale for 20+ years. It is the 89 Fleer Wade Boggs on the right without the print spot after Throws Right on the back of the card. Still looking for an extra for a fellow Boggs collector so if anyone has one please let me know.
|
I am very thankful to have picked this big one up this year.

I am most Thankful for David's (Kawika) generosity in helping me close out a 16 year mission with the final card needed to complete my T210 Series 8 Tennessee sub-set of 41 players. This beauty arrived yesterday.
Thank you David! |

Jeff, your celeb auto collection is in another dimension.

Jeff, do you have a JSA LOA for that guitar? :p
Now that's a cool item! |
No luck on the D381 search for me so far this year but I basically finished my 1915 cracker jack set. Probably am most grateful for either the Mathewson I just picked up or the Honus Wagner cracker jack. Also had a few nice additions to my Ruth collection including the e121 80 George Ruth variation .

1: 55 Clemente RC from Goodwin in Feb. 2: 48 Leaf Jackie Robinson. This was a trade done via paypal (Natl Convention dealer) 3: Zeenut Dimaggio RC My most excited purchase of all year so far..still have 1 more month to go |

I am thankful for two cards.
The first one because the T209-2 of Evans is scarce, and postcards of any T209 player's pose are crazy scarce. And the second one because it's one of the coolest images in the T210 set. Cheers, Mike |
Ruth Kashin, my 17th (or is it 18th?) Ruth card from his playing days.

Baseball been berry-berry good to me in 2014. Had an essload of great pickups. Two of the best were a couponed Oana Zeenut and a 1909 Obak Mohler. One of my very first pickups when I started collecting vintage was a beater of Prince Oana whom my Dad had worshiped as a boy at old Rec Park in San Fran in the '20s. Always wanted an intact one - only took me fifteen years. I traded with our late departed mate Anthony Stephenson (a hell of a guy whom I really miss) for Kid Mohler, the tough last card to complete a subset of horizontal 1909 Obaks. Rest in peace, amigo.

I was lucky enough to pick up this 1906 Sporting Life Cubs Team PC. Not only is it the only copy graded by any TPG (last I checked) but it also has a very scarce ad stamp on the reverse.
Best part: I picked it up in a lot. After selling the other items in the lot, I have less that $100 into this card! |
Awesome pc Jim!

Jeff, that's a gorgeous example. I think i missed it since it is catalogued as 06-07 instead of just '06.

SGC's pop report is all over the place when it comes to these PCs. I see only two Cubs team graded (my 50 and a 30) but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more. I actually bought mine raw.

Toss up for me between these 2...
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...s991304f2.jpeg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...s924dcdfd.jpeg love them both... too bad they consumed most of my card budget for the entire year :) |
I know it pales in comparison to some of the other items posted in the thread, but the Thorpe Olympiska Spelens postcard was my best pickup of the year. I missed on a couple examples of the Thorpe 1912 "Olympic Heroes" shot-putting postcard that I have wanted for a while.

Ty Cobb real photo postcard
2 Attachment(s)
Probably this real photo postcard of Ty Cobb because it's such a nice image. For more early baseball postcards and paper visit http://www.sportingoregon.com . Always buying!
The back story: The spectator who snapped the photo wrote on the back, "I may not be able to Ty Cobb but I can snap him. Taken at the Wilkes Barre and Detroit game Sunday, Sept. 24-11." Just before the end of the 1911 season, at about the time the Detroit Tigers were eliminated from the pennant race, the Tigers visited Boulevard Park for a game with the home town Wilkes Barre Barons, champions of the New York State League. The Tigers prevailed 3-2. Cobb went 0-3, so this image probably shows him recording an out. His teammate Sam Crawford was 4-4. Behind the plate that day for the Barons (and behind Cobb in this image) was Joe Briger, whose minor league career spanned 1907-1925. |
I am thankful to Michael Brailey for parting with a N300 Kinslow. Thank you sir.

Im very thankful I was able to pick up a 15 card T210 Orange Border Lot including 9 I needed at the time. The pickup moved me to 17-20 of the subset and has stalled ever since. Made a play at a Munsell this month but was the underbidder. As for a single card the half Yellow Border Jones as rough as it is is the one this year. Not to many yellows out there im glad to have at least a partial example. Great cards everyone. Nice Benny Mike!

Looks considerably nicer than the scan. Picked it up in Cleveland at the National. That's my postwar baseball pick of the year. Prewar I gotta go with this one: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...10%20Darby.jpg Then there is my other sports Boxing: 1915 Benny Leonard promo card: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...lf%20issue.jpg Politically incorrect but rare Joe Louis PC: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...oe%20Louis.jpg Basketball: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20premium.JPG http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...n_%20Oscar.jpg Football: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ns%20Brown.jpg Futbol: Nonsports: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...bit%20card.jpg |
1924 Diaz Johnny Couch. I don't have a scan of it, but I looked for that one for a few years before finally picking it up this summer.
