Excellent photos posted so far! I have shown these before, but they are my favorites. The sizes are off though as the Cobb is about half of the size of the Ruth.

Ken Hubbs & AAGPBL in Cuba
4 Attachment(s)
The B&W Hubbs was taken June of '63 in Philadelphia. The color shot has him "miced up" for the "Leadoff Man Show". The AAGPBL all star team was called "The Americanas"...I think. Unknown stadium & team in Cuba. The Hubbs snapshots came from his family.

I really like that Yankee team photo Mark.
|
Thanks Steve.
I love team photo snapshots as I find them to be very uncommon. This one is a little unusual it that it has a pro photographer logo in the bottom right. I guess this means it was the professional photogs who took it and just printed small versions. Not sure why the pic looks so big. They are all the same size. |

These snapshots are great. I hope you don't mind but I am friends wiith Milton Berle's son on Facebook and he is an incredibly huge baseball fan and frequently posts pictures of his dad at games and with the games biggest stars and I passed this photo on to him. I know he is going to love it.

Unknown Whitesox Player
1 Attachment(s)
I have no idea who this Whitesox player may be, where the photograph was taken or a time frame as to when it was taken. I just liked the vintage photograph. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks
|
The player appears to be wearing a 1913 White Sox uniform. Prior to 1913, the dark uniform was matched with a white cap, and during 1914-1916 the dark cap had white pinstripes. Only in 1913 did they wear a dark cap without pinstripes with their dark road uniform. (In 1926, 1930, and 1931 the White Sox wore dark road uniforms again, but there were some other differences to distinguish them from the one in the photo.) Thirty-seven different players appeared in at least one game for the team that year, and it may be someone who didn't get into a regular-season game.
|
Thanks so much for the information. I'm a big fan of the vintage Whitesox uniforms especially those featured on the players of the T206's. Now that I have a time frame I will attempt to identify the player. I really appreciate your response.

Vander Meer 1938 snapshot
2 Attachment(s)
Here is a cool recent snapshot pickup with some historical content:
This snapshot was taken of Johnny "Double No-Hit" Vander Meer and his father (wearing the boater hat) standing out in front of the Sinton Hotel in Cincinnati on July 5th, 1938. Vandy was the starting and winning pitcher for the National League in the 1938 All Star game the following day on July 6th. Rookie LHP Vander Meer did not allow any runs and only 1 hit in 3 IP, in front of a sellout hometown crowd as the Cincinnati Reds hosted the midsummer classic in '38. The caption on the back of the snapper says it all. Vander Meer had just pitched his back-to-back no-no's less than a month earlier. He definitely was the talk of the town in 1938 at age 23... |
Killer pickup Scott! Super awesome!
|
Thanks Gary!
I had to bring the snapshot thread back up to the top of the deck. ;) |
3 Attachment(s)
Here are a few of the first "snapshots" from a Kodak #2 camera. The reverse of the images dates them to 1890. Two are baseball and the third is "boxing." They were taken at Buffalo Park,NY. Thanks to Brian for making these available to me.

Gocubsgo32 (Gary) recently sold these snaps to me. Thanks again Gary. They were taken at a June 20, 1971 Pirates Expos double header at Three Rivers. They are images of the Parking lot, scoreboard, Bob Robertson during the National Anthem , Steve Blass, Clemente and Stargell at the plate, Pirate dugout, Al Oliver, Clemente running off the field, and a 1970 snap of Clemente and Mazeroski. The last two color photos were taken at the 1971 series. They are of an Oriole groupie;) and Three Rivers stadium. I picked up on eBay with surprisingly little competition.

Sweet snappers, Mike! Nice teamwork, Gary! ;)
