Rationale for your username
I've seen quite a few interesting usernames on this site over the years and some I haven't been able to figure out.
Two things triggered my desire to start this thread: (1) during the inaugural Net54 '54 Topps set break webcast, Nick said usernames when declaring the winners of each card, but said "Derek" for my two wins (2) the recent passing of Anthony resulted in me looking up DB Cooper on Google and learning about events/people that happened/existed before I came into this world. Anthony's use of DB Cooper as his username and the significance of it was completely foreign to me, but probably not to those of you who were alive during the time. Perhaps you have a story to tell too? Unfortunately, mine is pretty boring, but maybe you were wondering what in the world h2oya311 stands for. Quite simply, I was a swimmer at Georgetown University back in the late '90s. H2o = water, Georgetown = hoyas ; combine them and there you have it. ...oh and my bday is 3/11. No, I'm not a die-hard 311 fan, although I love the song "Amber", and no, I'm not a member of the kkk (3x 11th letter in the alphabet), or the gang from Las Vegas. And if you ever asked yourself: "what is a Hoya?", you've simply answered your own question. |
We just had a thread for this and our Avatars in August:

I always use my real name on the internet as it's a minor pet peeve of mine to see anonymous ramblings from behind a keyboard. But to each their own. I guess I should come up with some cool user id and still have my name in my signature line. Maybe later....
|
Thanks Andy - I completely missed that thread...I thought I was coming up with something original when apparently I was a few months late to the game.
There are still MANY out there who have not yet shared. I am very interested... |
Not too hard to figure mine out! :)
jimi = my name vintage = my love for vintage cards My pic stems from when I collected the T206 McGraw back run....so I should probably change that one of these days. ;) .....and for what it's worth, I missed that thread on avatars, too, Derek! |
reggie Jackson my idol :)
|
Obviously, for "The Big Train", Walter Johnson.
|
Mine is completely non-collecting related. It's Beatle related. Darkhorse was George Harrison's record label and #9 is John Lennon a nod to John Lennon.
|
Mine is pretty easy too!!

Nothing crazy, "Nasty Nati" is a nickname for Cincinnati, and I grew up there.
|
My handle is derived from the fact that I am both an avid cyclist as well as an avid collector of cards form the era (1950s-60s) that was likely the most popular era to have had kids put cards into their bicycle spokes. You will find no cards in any of my spokes though.
|
A tribute to my late dad who was generous with both time and money in supporting my passion for the hobby.
|
It's my name
:)
|
Someone hacked my eBay account many years ago and changed my username to "Bestdj777." I am not a DJ, and, if I was, I probably wouldn't the best. But, I wanted to keep my Net54 username consistent.

Last name / number in baseball

I teach economics (and history) and love t205's

Yours is one of my favorites!
Mine is pretty self explanatory. I love Campy for overcoming the struggles in his life, both before and after the accident. Great thread. Quote:

As far as why I chose the screen ID "Auggiedoggy" is concerned? I created the name (READ: ripped off from an old cartoon TV series) when I bought my first puppy, a Norwegian Elkhound. I wanted a canine-related screen ID so I went with a blast from the past - my past. Hence the name Auggiedoggy. The avatar is slightly confusing to those too young to remember the cartoon. The small dog is actually Auggie. The larger dog is his father, Doggie Daddy. My second reason for choosing this ID was that I wanted something mature and dignified. Something that reflected my true character. |
Mya is the genus name of the soft-shelled clam which was my wife's thesis topic
Chelydra is the genus name for the snapping turtle which was one of my research animals |
Hey Derek, I was a swimmer too. That is actually where my User ID comes from. My coach gave me the nickname Voodoo Child (eventually became just Voodoo) when I was 12. He said the lyrics of the Hendrix song "I stand up next to a mountain and I chop it down with the edge of my hand" reminded him of the way I swam. Unfortunately, that was the age of my last growth spurt and my swimming career burned out in High School. It did lead to life-long appreciation of Hendrix's music though which is why I still continue to use it online.

Mine is my NTN trivia handle for the last 18 years. It's a character from the E. M. Forster book A Room With A View, George Emerson (G M R SON).
|
Mine? Pretty simple and very unimaginative.
|
icollectDCsports = I collect sports memorabilia related to the Washington, DC sports teams. (Although my collecting interests aren't limited to those teams.)
|
I think you can figure it out. Its the handle I use on all my social media...
|
Pretty easy to solve. Mighty Casey = My tribute to early baseball. 1888 poem featuring Casey (Mike "King" Kelly) and the Mudville Nine.
|
Obvious...............but Gus Zernial was my favorite player growing up outside Philly in the early '50's. You couldn't find another A's fan as everyone was a Phillies fan!
|
I am a cubsfan. I also drink miller lite.
|
Mine is my street name. Thug life.
(kidding of course) |
Due to budget constraints, I collect vintage cards in low grade, hence I thought my username was fitting...
|
Mine's easy---first name followed by the year I began collecting baseball cards. I was a few months shy of turning 7. ---Brian Powell
|
mrvster....
my ebay handle.....my friend Mike used to call me the "vster" because my last name , vanderbeck.....was a nickname of sorts...then he added "mr" one day...]
hence mr "vster" :) I just carried over from ebay:) pretty dumb, but back in the day all the ebay handles were taken:o btw... pronounce mr "veester" |
I took mine from a character in the movie Last Starfighter - a favorite of mine as a kid. Also, I post on several internet sites, and the name is not common.

Back in the early days of the internet, I needed a screen name for AOL instant messenger. In all my 13 year old wisdom, I picked my two favorite baseball players (Chipper Jones and Hank Aaron) and combined their names. To follow the popular form, at least among my friends, I needed a number on the end. Hank Aaron's 44 was the natural choice.

Mine is in remembrience of a beautiful Springer Spanial I had as a pet for many wonderful years. Her name was Emmy but I called her Emmygirl. Still miss her.
|
|
I summoned my inner hipster for mine and went with something ironic. Also, I imagined kids thinking "when I grow up I want to smoke so I can get those cool cards.:
|
Mine is a play on words. I have twin boys. In no way is it related to the team from MN. My avatar is Ban Johnson Field in Hot Springs, AR. Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Mel Ott, and others had spring training there.
|
Mine is pretty easy to figure out. It's the url for where I posted my T206 pics, why and how I got into collecting, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to finish putting up the scans.

I don't smoke, but since I joined here, your username has always made me wish I could travel back in time, just so I could chain smoke Uzits, Drums, and Broad Leafs. |

user name
Mine is the same as my eBay user name. When I set up my eBay account 12 years ago I didn't expect to do much business on the site, so I just chose the name of the high school where I worked so I could bid on a few cards.
Even though I retired this year I would never change it now. The name and the school have been very good to me. Best regards, Joe |
Because I tend to post on controversial subjects, I decided my real name was sufficient -- that has to do with the board before this board
On other boards I tend to be Sabrgeek -- Society of American Baseball Research -- Geek *self explanatory* On the Beckett Boards I'm Rich K --- that was the name I chose in 1996 and I don't remember if I even had my AOL account then RIch |
I've taken mine from 19th century evolutionary biologist Thomas Huxley's nickname. Evolution is my academic area.
|
It is very bad to steal my rum.....it is VERY bad.
|
Since I was a kid, no one has ever called me Darren. It's always been Elm or Elms, which is short for Elmo, a nickname I acquired for no rational reason whatsoever. Jolly Elm is a play on the Jimmy Buffett song, "Jolly Mon."
|
I am a Cadinals fan and I was born in 73... not very original I know :)
|
Mine comes from the first prewar set I started collecting combined with it's first year of issue and at the time my girlfriends initials, I used it to create my ebay ID and kept it for here.
My ebay id has since changed to t2069bs as we got married 15 years ago!! |
Kmac32
At Cubs camp, they called me Kenny Mac so shorten it to Kmac and 32 was my uniform number so together. Kmac32 |

Giants fan.....in the late 80s, Candlestick crowds would chant back and forth "oooo" and "rebay" for SS Jose Uribe. I loved those late 80s teams.
I wanted ooo-rebay for ebay but you can't have ebay in your name  |
Username is what you would see on the back of my jersey when I played sports.
Avatar is a picture of Ron Santo applauding the Cubs after they clinched the division. |
My user name is the only 'proper' nickname I received during the twenty or so years I pitched locally in high school, college, and semipro / industrial leagues.
David Clyde's debut spurred the conjunction with my last name Culpepper. We were both lefties making our first big slash, though mine was in a considerably smaller body of water. Clyde actually came here to Columbus in 1981 to almost resurrect his career - he was great here at AA, but did not do well enough at AAA to get back to the Bigs. He was only here for about a month and by the time I heard about it, he was gone. Another leisure activity lost to Retail Management. |

Mine is a childhood nickname based on my last name. Hardly anybody other than my parents, my wife, and a couple co-workers calls me by real name. To everybody else, it's "Tabe".
As for the avatar, well, a few years back there was a web site where you could submit a photo and it would create a "Simpsons" character of you based on your photo. A co-worker friend of mine did that for our entire group, with hilarious results. Mine actually is a fairly good representation of what I actually look like and so I've adopted it as an avatar. |

I've found that the older I get, the less I remember so have made my name my user id for pretty much every account that I can. I figure it's the last thing I'll remember before they cart me away :)

The 1971 Bucs were the coolest and most diverse group of men my 8 year old eyes ever saw. They still are. My user ID reflects that opinion.
|
Mine comes from a contest I won with Topps. I got a card in the 2013 Gypsy Queen set where the title of the card was Gypsy King. My sports number in high school was 13.
|
My username and avatar come from my first passion, birds. The 42 is because it's the answer to everything, so it should be a part of everything.
The pic is of an osprey diving for dinner. Spent last weekend working with the Cape May Raptor Banding Project; more ospreys, hawks, falcons and eagles than you could count. Bill |

swarmee - double entendre
Two meanings, but neither lewd.
Swarmee: college nickname since I was the leader of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket student cheering section called The Swarm from 1997-2002. I also graduated as an EE (Electrical Engineer), so swarm EE also works. Amazingly coincidental, a year after I started cheering for Tech, M&Ms came out with a plush toy in their "Swarmees" line called "Yellin' Yellow". Does it look like me? http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225...Uf10WJxbzA.jpg Here is one of myself during those college years: https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...37&oe=54AC02AB |
Mine should be pretty obvious to all metal heads and possibly no one else. A play on the name of the band who released the greatest album (to that point and still) of all time. Feel free to bash that last statement, won't make a bit of difference to me :)

In college I was hired for surveillance in a divorce case. One night the boyfriend called 911 on me, and the tape was played in court to corroborate my notes. On the call, he called me "some deertick on the assh--e of a hound."
Most times when asked, I usually reply that "bleeding hemorrhoid" was already taken. |
