The 2015 REA Catalog Anticipation and Delivery Thread

Now the 2014 Spring Auction has concluded. The winners have been determined and the catalogs have become obsolete. What's next? Post past auction depression for which there is no cure, so...............

this thread will serve as a bridge, if you will, to next year's Spring Auction. Don't be at all ashamed if you are one of the members, who goes to the mailbox tomorrow looking for the 2015 catalog. You can post your disappointment here by simply saying "I haven't got mine yet." Of course in threads of this nature your location will help other members determine the vagaries of postal distribution.

Additional benefits will accrue as a result of this thread.

We will learn collectively about who receives the first magnet.

We will know early on about the smell of the 2015 catalog.

Imagine how envious board members will be if you are the first to post "I've got mine."

Until then however I expect a positive effect on our collective post past auction depression as a result of this thread. Consider it group therapy and best of all it's free.;)

BengoughingForAwhile 04-27-2014 07:28 AM

I haven't got mine yet, but Chuck Norris has already received two copies.

I just heard a loud "THUMP" on my side door stoop and saw a FedEx guy running for his truck, so I think mine has arrived!

sycks22 04-27-2014 11:37 AM

I bet back surgeries hit an all time high around early April for mailmen.

Chuck Norris has already decided which cards will be consigned for the 2016 REA Spring auction--- I got my instructions yesterday.

The poster of the rea thread this evening must have been unaware of this anticipation thread which is ready to go for the month of April.;)

Feel free to comment on your delivery, the feel and odor of this year's catalog and if you must, the content itself.

Speculation on the long-term musculoskeletal health of individual mailmen delivering the REA catalog is no longer welcome? ;) :D

Let me be the 1st to announce I have NOT recvd my catalog yet

BengoughingForAwhile 03-30-2015 10:24 AM

A small 2.9 magnitude earthquake "rocked" the Chicago vicinity last Wednesday. At first I thought it may have been my REA catalog hitting the front porch a week early, but no such luck. :(
This week confusion and hysteria will reign over the area with people wondering "is that an aftershock or my REA catalog arriving?"

oldjudge 03-30-2015 10:47 AM

What a way to start an auction with a Wagner and a Jackson. I hope there are some scarcer Old Judges too.

iowadoc77 03-30-2015 12:37 PM

I am considering blocking a day off in my schedule to adequately peruse the offerings (salivate) and stare intently (with googly eyes) at many items i would love to have but likely never will...

jcmtiger 03-30-2015 02:28 PM

Anyone know when REA goes Online with their spring 2015 catalog ?

I know they begin mailing their catalog on April 1st.

So you would say they're attractive?

oldjudge 03-30-2015 04:59 PM

This year the initial plan was that the whole catalog would be a giant refrigerator magnet. Unfortunately, in the test lab the refrigerators kept tipping over when the magnet was attached.

frankbmd 03-30-2015 05:17 PM

Belittle the magnets if you will, but they are better than a bad marriage.

Like diamonds, magnets are forever. Treasure them and they will remain attractive.

LMAO! Classic. This year I here that there will be Lifson Bucks (TM) inserted into random catalogs. They can be redeemed for anything such as cash discounts with REA up to $100,000 grand prize. Or discounts with select REA partners like Arby's, Pep Boys, Yankee Candle etc.

I think Brian Dwyer will be providing a full list of approved partners for Lifson Bucks (TM).

It's hard to believe, but my catalog arrived today and it smells fantastic!! ;)

Just got my catalog. Some unbelievable stuff in there. The horde of California League N172s (49 of them!) is insane. They also have 3 different Fans Cigarettes cards (including a Hornsby), a "new to the hobby" Holland Creameries Roger Peckinpaugh, and a T206 with the controversial Blue Old Mill back (I won't ruin the surprise, but it isn't Ed Walsh this time).

Wonka and I -hi John- had the king of all April Fool's jokes several years back when we introduced to the hobby a T206 Southern league card of Joe Jackson. It was mostly John's imagination that got it going, but it was a very elaborate story that we unveiled to Net54. :)

I even remember the woman who "consigned" it had a first name of April.

MVSNYC 04-01-2015 09:06 AM

PS- I actually did get the REA catalog today, it's amazing.

barrysloate 04-01-2015 09:11 AM

You're right Michael. I don't remember the whole story, but I do recall it was very elaborate. John sure cooked up a good on that day!

Glenn, you had me and my blood pressure really going when you mentioned the new-to-the-hobby Holland/Peckinpaugh card! I have all the Hollands except Peck, and many years ago I blew my opportunity to purchase the only known example of this card!

Ah, sorry about that. It might help you feel better if you send me a couple of the common ones so you aren't so frustratingly close to a complete set.

Ahh good times. One of the better Net54 times. Don't forget Barry you were also involved....as was Leon :)

Fake photobucket with a hot young girl, pics of grandma, and fake email for April. The best part many of the folks claiming to know it was a joke also sending nice emails to April. You would be surprised how many guys had wives, sisters named April that day. I also love some of the very "on level" auction house offers...I still read the emails every now and then for a good laugh.

It appears that someone put in a very high auto bid. Since the $200k bid it has been jumping by two bids every time a new bid is put in.

Didn't have the stones to do to though.

I bid on a very low quality Wagner once in 2004. I had the high bid ( over $50,000) going into the last day. A couple guys bid it up to I believe $62,000. I always wished that I had made another bid.

Then I found out that Keith Olbermann won the card. I could have made a few more bids and it wouldn't have mattered, he still would have beat me. Oh well, it's like I owned a Wagner for a couple days. Sort of.

wonkaticket 04-02-2015 02:54 PM

All of my Wagner bids are jokes, and if I ever win I'm not paying! :)

MVSNYC 04-02-2015 05:30 PM

I was clever enough to place my "I bid on a Wagner" bid early. ;)

Call me "old school", "old fashioned" or just plain old but I'm holding out for the catalog in the mail to look at all the items. Looking online, although more instantly gratifying , only serves the visual sense. Waiting for the catalog is stimulating to visual AND olfactory senses;)

iowadoc77 04-03-2015 07:19 AM

Totally agree! I need to smell the catalog before looking at lots...but it is killing me to wait! Picked up my 52 Mantle last year, getting excited about what is out there this year!

yeah I know it sucks to know that bids wont win but we also know that 99% chance that if our highest offer is below market price we aren't going to win the item so its not that disappointing..
