Catalog just arrived! One of my favorite (collecting) days of the year.

Looks amazing, at quick glance.

Stonepony 03-29-2014 09:11 AM

Hoping for mine this week!

RGold 03-29-2014 09:18 AM

I'll let everybody know when I get mine!!! :D:D:D

tiger8mush 03-29-2014 09:43 AM

postman just delivered mine! Comes with a neat little magnet too. They certainly go above & beyond as far as presentation. Could take a while getting thru this ~650 page behemoth!

Why you so slow Canada Post :(

nsaddict 03-29-2014 10:02 AM

Incredible stuff, if you collect Ramly's save your dough for the auction, with over 140 card offerings that includes 2 high grade WoJo's ! My magnet is already on the fridge :)

Chris

At least REA catalogs arrive well before the end of the auction. I haven't had a Legendary auction catalog ever arrive before the auction ends

Max

GoldenAge50s 03-29-2014 10:19 AM

As of 12:19 mine has NOT arrived!

Kawika 03-29-2014 10:27 AM

REA website says that catalogs get mailed out on April 1st so some of you guys must be on the inside track. As a resident of the Great White North I won't be holding my breath but at least, like Max said, the REA catalog will arrive in Canada before the auction is over, unlike many of the other AHs. In the meantime, anybody know when the online preview will be up?

Bicem 03-29-2014 10:35 AM

Don't care about the catalog but really looking forward to the online preview.

Robert_Lifson 03-29-2014 10:58 AM

Catalogs

Hi Net54! This was a new one for us: A few people got catalogs yesterday before we got our first sample copy! In the past, we have always gotten our first samples many days before any others are shipped. For this catalog, the printer apparently had his own ideas about when to start sending them out (I guess they were ahead of schedule) which is fine but my understanding is they have shipped only a modest number each of the past couple days (and are far from finished). Therefore arrival times may vary a little more than normal due to their sending over a period of many days. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to people who are looking for their catalog to arrive (because they have heard it has arrived elsewhere) and are wondering where theirs is. They will all be on their way this week and we will have the auction up online as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Robert Lifson

I got mine yesterday, and each auction description just says this is a stolen item from the Halper collection call Peter Nash or visit Haulsofblame.com. Is this a misprint Rob? :D

That one made me laugh.

Robert_Lifson 03-29-2014 12:36 PM

Mr. Wonkaticket, kind sir, I take great exception to your last post. It is absolutely NOT accurate that all items in the auction are stolen items from the Halper collection.

Of course, it is a given that most are, but if you would just take the time to read carefully, you would see that some were not stolen (I think five or six, I don’t have the exact count as I type this), and those few lots, well, they are fake.

I’m glad that I was able to clear this up for you, and I thank you for your extremely impressive early left bid on the “Strong Man” card (For context, see:

Just give the catalog a bath in H2O2 and everything will come out fine :)

3-2-count 03-29-2014 02:03 PM

Just got mine today. Whoa!!!

AMBST95 03-29-2014 02:29 PM

I saw this thread and immediately ran to the mailbox. Now I'm just wet from the rain with and still without the catalog.

CharleyBrown 03-29-2014 02:45 PM

Got mine today :)

Rickyy 03-29-2014 03:20 PM

I got it today too...perfect reading for a rainy day! :-)

GregMitch34 03-29-2014 03:27 PM

Suitable for mounting (in all meanings of word).

rhettyeakley 03-29-2014 03:44 PM

Rob, how about getting the online auction up for those of us unlucky enough to not get ours in the mail. I'm feeling very disenfranchised right now! I wonder if any of the lawyers on the board would like to help me out with a discrimination lawsuit? :D

Bicem 03-29-2014 03:46 PM

Got mine, can't complain. The 19th cent stuff is amazing as usual.

wonkaticket 03-29-2014 03:49 PM

Did you guys get your magnet and iPad mini that came with the catalog very cool!!!!

Jay Wolt 03-29-2014 03:53 PM

I've been walking around depressed on a cold rainy day since I didn't receive mine yet.
Want to check out my consigned lots and look at the museum quality lots that I can't afford.
Plus I wanted to play w/ the REA iPad ;)

pawpawdiv9 03-29-2014 04:06 PM

Umm! i cant wait..
It goes with my other catalogs i got last week or so..(Goodwin and H&S)

GregMitch34 03-29-2014 04:06 PM

How much is that Gem Mint REA magnet going for on eBay tonight?

Republicaninmass 03-29-2014 05:35 PM

You can buy the old CJ one here for cheap with five catalogs

Got mine today! /excited!!!

kkkkandp 03-29-2014 06:49 PM

When I heard the thud on my front porch this morning I thought sure my postman had taken a header, but, no, it was the annual orgazmatron known as the REA catalog.

Some awesome things up for auction - not that anyone should be surprised by that!

BTW - I love the smell of it! :D

mrvster 03-29-2014 09:25 PM

Got mine....

my heart is still pounding:)

the 'stache 03-29-2014 09:32 PM

Wow, this Ramly collection is insane. That SGC 96 Walter Johnson is immaculate. The centering is perfect, and there's not a chip or a speck of white to be seen.

I'm seriously drooling paging through this. I might not sleep tonight.

No catalog for me either. I am thinking a possible class action.

Mine arrived on Saturday here in sunny earthquake country Los Angeles. Great stuff. Catalog is thick enough that i can use it to shield myself if we have another shaker :D
Enjoy

atx840 03-30-2014 11:47 AM

Rob, some amazing items this year, congrats!

Not that it makes much of a difference, I believe the "quadruple" strike T206 is a triple.

Rich Klein 03-30-2014 02:24 PM

I guess Texas is not on the REA most favored states. must be because of the web site owner and people within 10 miles of him which makes us 2nd class citizens :D

honus94566 03-30-2014 02:28 PM

When will the auction be live to view on the website?

Kenny Cole 03-30-2014 03:07 PM

calvindog 03-30-2014 05:02 PM

Any thoughts on the actual auction?

Or is it dibbs?

I am amazed by the offerings in the catalog & hope to win a few lots, more if the wife let's me sell the house-not happening.
When I saw the catalog over 3,000, maybe 4,000 T206's being sold...all the T204's etc. etc. .. it did make me wonder:
Is there ever a turn in this hobby where the vast amount of items auctioned brings prices down or the incredible offerings only lead to new collectors and prices going higher. Or it's just the way it is. I guess supply and demand of the hobby intrigue me. I love the supply here & wish the demand was beneficial to my collecting dreams

gnaz01 03-30-2014 07:05 PM

Has not arrived in South Florida

baseballart 03-30-2014 07:23 PM

What rare books are there (he asks, not being able to wait, and besides of course the one I have consigned :-) )

True there is much more material available via auction these days but at the same time the websites where dealers listed large inventories of cards for, if not reasonable, at least plausible prices, are mostly gone; and the number of true ebay auctions is down as well; so I think the supply overall is probably about the same.

mcap100176 03-30-2014 07:37 PM

Chuck Norris just finished reading this year's REA Fall auction catalog.

Peter_Spaeth 03-30-2014 09:28 PM

Chuck Norris doesn't need a catalog; what's in the catalog is just what's left after he takes the cards he wants.

REA Catalog was just dropped on my front porch in suburban Chicago! Unfortunately, the weight of the catalog collapsed the porch and now I need to call a concrete contractor. :(
Then again maybe I'll wait until after the auction ends to make that call. I can always use the back door for awhile! :)

Chuck Norris was going to deliver my catalog to Victoria but he got bitch slapped by Canada Customs.

Who is this Mr. Norris fellow with abnormal abilities that you speak of? Is he employed by REA?

Or perhaps this mysterious man is just a superhero doing what is best for mankind, and specifically, the vintage sports collecting community? Please inform those not privy to this apparently omnipotent being.

Brian

ullmandds 03-31-2014 11:07 AM

mr norris is the guy who adds the weight and the smell to each and every REA catalog...that everyone loves to bring up again...and again...and again!!!!:p:p

Kawika 03-31-2014 11:08 AM

If Chuck Norris were employed by REA I wouldn't want to be Peter Nash.

I wish that stereotype was correct. Spend a Friday night on Granville Street in Vancouver or Pandora Ave in Victoria or a thousand other burgs across the Great White North at closing time, Alex, and you might revise your estimate. It is true though that after a Canadian breaks a guy's head open he will apologize.

Things have been known to get a little crazy out there in Vancouver, i.e. Canucks playoff loss to the Bruins a few years ago and lets not forget the Canucks playoff loss to the Rangers in 1994.

I think they need to smoke a little more MJ to mellow out a little.
