x2drich2000 02-23-2014 10:00 AM

Great auction Leon, I can't wait. I already found 3 extra cards I wasn't aware of which means I'll need to have another conversation with my wife

Lot 42 is titled wrong...looks to be the same title for lot 41.

MyGuyTy 02-23-2014 10:04 AM

Great auction Leon and Scott!

Seeking partner on lot #49......I'm just interested in the Knight and Laporte Cycles. PM if interested.

sb1 02-23-2014 10:04 AM

one small correction

We did send out an email to our registered users with an obviously incorrect start date. It begins tomorrow February 24th not Sept 24th, not sure where I came up with that :)

The auction goes live at 9:00 a.m. EST February 24th and initial bidding ends Saturday March 8th at 11:00 p.m. EST with each lot ending individually with a 30 minute bid period. Bidders must bid on a lot prior to the 11:00 p.m. cut off in order to bid on it in extended bidding.

Scott

Paul S 02-23-2014 10:04 AM

Lot #494 should Piedmont back, instead of Polar Bear. Anyway, it all looks great.

Even though there is nothing in this auction that I am pursuing I'd like to say that it looks bigger and better than ever. You guys have come a long ways in your offerings since that first auction.

gnaz01 02-23-2014 11:46 AM

Didn't see the 1939 ACC in there Leon :(

After previewing the B&L auction...

... the following line from Shakespeare's Tempest comes to mind:

"O, wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!"

So many beautiful cards. Congratulations on a great auction.

Solid auction, kemosabe. Looks like I'll be going samurai on a couple of items.

On a minor note, my computer is not able to communicate directly with the auction's watchlist mechanism. Presumably that will rectify itself when the auction opens.

sb1 02-23-2014 03:56 PM

David,

I believe the watch list will be fully viewable once the auction goes live. In the meantime you can still click the watch link and it will populate in your account.

Great auction as promised, Leon and Scott!

Lot #557, the W601 composites of the Cubs and two minor league teams:

These are actually the 1906 (not 1907) teams. They won the pennants in their respective leagues, and thus became champions for 1907.

(Tom Walsh and Doc Gessler, for example, did not play for the Cubs in 1907.)

wolf441 02-24-2014 07:13 AM

Great selection Leon!!

I think this is B&L's best auction to date. Some really great material to choose from. Now commences my rationalization agruments with the wife! Two weeks to wear her down... :D

Pshhh....easy.....men always win rationalization arguments when it comes to making a purchase for themselves......right? :D

sb1 02-24-2014 07:21 AM

Thanks for the query, actually they are 1907, the SCD has had these incorrectly dated for some time. Original string bound copies have confirmed the dating. In fact the last Legendary Auction had 1906 and 1907, in original form. The team images probably are from 1906 but they were issued/available in 1907. Thus there would be a one year lag on players and images.

Lot #597

As an FYI, lot #597, the team is the 1958 Omaha Cardinals, not the Omaha Dodgers.

The Omaha team was an affiliate of the Dodgers for the 1961-62 season, but the Cardinals for the 1955-59 seasons.

Too bad the lot in your auction doesn't include a Bob Gibson "pre-rookie"!!!

Rich Klein 02-24-2014 03:34 PM

I bet the Gibson pre-rookie was pulled out before B and L got that lot :)

sb1 02-24-2014 03:51 PM

Derek,

Noted and changed, thanks much. 1000's of eyes are better than two sometimes :)

Hi Paul
Can you not re-register as we had agreed upon? I don't see any registrations that need approval? If you register I will approve you. :)

btw, went back and looked again and I don't see any new registrations or ones needing approval with your name by it....only the original one. Only 1 total in the system.

deadballpaul 02-24-2014 04:24 PM

Hey, Leon

I did re-register, so I'm not sure whats going on

I'll try again....

I just double checked nothing new in the system. Please try it again(registering) and we will put you right thru.

Between my last post and now we had a new user sign up and I approved them. I also called and left a message just now on your cell, if you want to take this off line. Sorry for the issues..

deadballpaul 02-24-2014 04:36 PM

I will try it again in a few minutes. Not sure why I cant just reset my password & still use my original ID. Now I have to create a new ID & use a different email address because both are currently registered. Also, I'm not trying to be difficult, but I did originally enter my correct user ID & password.

The E105 McLean is NOT the only graded copy as the title suggests.

There is this SGC 30 and a PSA 1 example.

Hey Leon / Scott -

Great auction - one thing - each time I click on an item to view it when I am logged in, it automatically adds it to my watch list. Any way to not have that happen? Otherwise, all looks great!

We will get with our s/w folks about it today and ask about it. Thanks for the heads up.....

FYI, I'm not sure if it is the same issue, but this seems to happen with multiple auction sites (I've noticed it with Joe's Vintage and Sterling as well). If you click on "watch" an item, every item that you look at after that will also go into your watch list. I actually like it, you just have to only click on items that you are really interested in. :)

scooter729 02-25-2014 07:21 AM

Steve, I think you're right - I believe I only noticed it happening after I did click "Watch" on one item, and then all successive items were tagged as watched as well, regardless of clicking on it.

Obviously not a big deal, but figured it was worth pointing out....

It's no secret that we use one of the industry standard s/w packages, SimpleAuction. So the interface, while it can be tweaked a little, should be familiar to most hobbyists in our niche (at least addicted ones like Scott and I :))

Lot #53 - T206 Group-3 Cycle 350 series 10 Cards

Since the auction has already blown past my high bid, if the winner is a board member and is interested in selling the Cycle Dode Paskert, I would be an extremely motivated buyer as this is the last card that I need for my Paskert T206 back run. C'mon, help a guy out!! :D

Leon 03-08-2014 08:24 AM

Last day to bid. Still some great buys to be had......and this is our biggest auction yet so we want to thank all of our consignors and bidders.

And please remember, we are still at a very low 12.5% total Buyers Premium. (add that to our reasonable shipping charges and you save quite a bit)

The closing will be by individual lot this evening (and probably a little into tomorrow morning)...Good luck!!

Is this a new closing method for this auction? There are so many auction closing rules to remember, but I thought B-L use to be an entire auction closing with the ability to change your bids to another lot in extended bidding even if you hadn't bid prior (similar to sterling).

JollyRoger 03-08-2014 09:50 PM

I like the auction ending style! 11:45, I won my lots and I'm ready for bed (after a couple more beers). Great auction guys!

+1. Awesome auction. I won all three lots I bid on, I won them by 11:30, and I won them at prices I am very happy with. Thanks for an awesome auction. I cannot wait until the next one.

sb1 03-08-2014 10:11 PM

We have done the individual closings the last couple of auctions. It gets the bidding to a higher level sooner and allows the bidder to win the lot, not stay up all night and wait for someone else to catch him napping. As a plus to the consignor we see a significant amount of bid activity in a short period of time which in most cases results in better results for them as well. Everybody wins.

YankeeCollector 03-09-2014 06:08 AM

Great Auction. Won all 3 lots and couldn't be happier. It's so refreshing to have an honest auction house nowadays as my max for one of my lots was not even remotely reached.

Agreed!! Very fair shipping costs. I only came away with 2 T206 HOF upgrades (Lajoie Batting SGC 30 and Griffith Portrait SGC 40) plus my 1st E101 (Harry Davis), but a really well run auction. I love the fact that I was able to log out by midnight!

And again, if anyone won the Cycle lot that had Dode Paskert in it, I'm really trying to finish my back run, so I'd be willing to pay strongly for it!! :D

Griffins 03-09-2014 11:29 AM

I picked up an oval frame Ramly Anderson, goes well with the square frame one I just worked out a deal on.
Great auction guys, and love the lot by lot closing. Was glad not to have to sit up late knowing I'd be losing an hour already with daylight savings hitting today.

I won the T206 purple Collins. I have never seen that color variation, thought it was really impressive. It's funny because someone just had a thread up about color variations for T206s, Greg I believe.

Thanks from B & L

A big thank you to all of the bidders and consignors, without either faction this auction would not have been possible. We were able to offer nearly 700 lots of quality items, many of which brought record prices. The individual closing allows bidders to get to the point and not drag it out all night long, and judging by the prices realized the consignors also benefitted from a few all out bidding wars.

The next auction will be late September/early October and we already have people committing items. Please feel free to contact Leon or myself if you want to be a part of it.

Sorry for bumping that Hartzell with 2 seconds left but it was a back up after being out bid on another card. If I wasn't so far in on some other cards I would have bid higher on that one. It was a nice one and I think you got a great deal.

Hey Andy, no worries at all! That was some kind of timing you had...I was watching the clock count down on that and all I know is I had it with 7 seconds to go and next thing I know it's in the "outbid" list. I was like "what the...." :)

I agree that shipping is much more reasonable with B&L than Legendary. For B&L, my shipping cost was $10 for a graded card that I won for around $1K. For Legendary, it was nearly $19 for an 8x10 photo which was around $300.
