HOF Snapshot Photos.Lets see them!
Hello. My name is Gary... and I'm addicted to HOF snapshot photos...lol
It started about a year ago when I purchased a snapshot photo of Joe Cronin. This was removed from Max O'Leary(Bat Boy of the Red Sox) 1938 scrapbook and apparently a friend of Joe Cronin based upon all the autographs and personal memorabilia found in this old scrapbook. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ps9da904bb.jpg Ever since...I've been hooked. This will be eventually passed down to my son. Then he can start placing his photos of potential HOFers baseball player in and continue it.My collection isn't grand, but it's a start! I've got 55 HOFer's snapshot in my first year.Since I've been a member, I have discovered I'm not the only one who collects HOF snapshot photo. Some players, I've never seen a snapshot photo of. I'm hoping this thread will help others who have the same interest to share what they have. |

Gary,
Great idea for a thread. Here's some of mine 1927 Yankees Team photo. Very possibly the only not official team photo in existence. The guy I purchased them from stated his father was at spring training that year and took the picture himself. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...amSnapshot.jpg 1930's pic of Gehrig signing some autos. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...hswithkids.jpg These two are tricky. They look like pro shots, but are in snapshot form. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...oxSnapshot.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...oxSnapshot.jpg |
I used to have hundreds of them....I saved the scans, but I don't like showing stuff that doesn't belong to me anymore.
I saved a few though. Wahoo Sam <a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/nudan92/media/The%20Players/crawford1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/nudan92/The%20Players/crawford1.jpg" border="0" alt="Sam Crawford c1907 - Matty McIntyre Photo Collection photo crawford1.jpg"/></a> Dazzy Vance <a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/nudan92/media/The%20Players/00newo21.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/nudan92/The%20Players/00newo21.jpg" border="0" alt="Dazzy Vance photo 00newo21.jpg"/></a> |
Both GREAT shots, Gary.

Snapshot Photos
Not my area of expertise, but I have a Duke Snider snapshot photo (presumably from 1944, although he's wearing a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey) and a pretty awesome 1973 Dave Parker minor league photo (while with the Charleston Charlies) - I know, I know, not vintage and not a HOFer, but I like the image, okay!!

Mark--Those Lou photos are killer awesome! Love the one of him signing autographs. The 1927 team photo is unbelievable! Also, I've never seen a snapshot so clear.Any story behind those?
Dan- Thank for posting that snapshot of Wahoo Sam! He's one of the players I've never seen a snapshot form! Awesome! Love the Dazzy as well! Graig- Thank you so much for the kind words! Derek- Love the pics! Is that Duke from the Snider Estate? Packs- Thanks for sharing the Ted Williams and Chick Hafey! Chick Hafey is another player I haven't seen a snapshot photo! The Williams photo is beautiful with the autograph. That look on his face is priceless, lol. I have posted these before but it seems this post is appropriate for them.
When my children were in grade school my daughter had a teacher who was getting married. Since her husband was a huge baseball fan her wedding present to him were some snap shots someone in her family tool decades earlier of various Cubs players. Somehow she had heard that I was a collector and asked me to look at them and give my opinion of value. Since I didnt know snap shot values I gave her a ball park figure, helped her figure out who the players were and tried to but them from her! She declined my offer but did provide me photo copies of the snaps that turned out much better than I thought they would. Here are the snaps she gave me. I cannot remember who the players are right now. I have to find the original copy but feel free to offer guesses. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s07e983fb.jpeg No doubt the guy on the right is Hack Wilson. Guy on the left may be Charlie Grimm http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s727781d0.jpeg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...sa2b8a103.jpeg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s60136271.jpeg |

Borchert Field = home of the American Association Milwaukee Brewers! Babe traveled the country with his Universal Stars team playing exhibition games. Older coach on the right is former player Stoney McGlynn. Coach on the left is Johnnie Hughes. I don't know the ID of Babe's teammates in the dugout - any help is appreciated. I received as a |
Second Cubs photo is Guy Bush. Second to last photo is Woody English. Last photo is Gabby Hartnett. Undoubtedly at Wrigley Field.
Very cool snapshots. Thanks for sharing! |

Vintage snapshots of HOF'ers
5 Attachment(s)
Great thread! I love snapshots.
Here are a few of my HOF snappers: HOF Nolan Ryan in his rookie season 1968 outside Shea Stadium. This photo was actually signed the same year in blue ballpoint pen. This remains one of my very favorite in my personal collection. HOF "King" Carl Hubbell AKA "The Meal Ticket" vintage signed snapshot. One more of Hubbell. This one was shot at Wrigley Field. Note where his left arm ends up after releasing his famous screwball. Not a HOF'er, but certainly in the HOF because of his unparalleled feat of throwing 2 consecutive back-to-back no-hitters in 1938- Johnny Vander Meer. The first snapshot was actually taken at Cincinnati Crosley Field and signed in 1937, the year before Vandy's breakout rookie season where he threw the double no-no. The second snapshot features the on-field celebration following Vandy's 2nd consecutive no-hitter on June 15, 1938. Vandy no-hit the home town Dodgers at Ebbetts Field- the first night game at Ebbetts. |

Here are a few of the Tigers at ST in Lakeland, circa 1941. These were given to me by a friend who inherited them in a scrapbook. His older cousin was the chief bellhop at a hotel in Lakeland and had a couple of pages of ballplayer photos.

Nice Babe Ruths! haha The Tiger player with his butt hanging out is pretty funny. He has that.."Dude, you checkin me out?!" look.

Probably one of my favorite and best hauls! I got this from a guy's who's mother went to baseball games and took pictures of her favorite players. Then the next day she would get the film developed to have the picture signed by the player for the next time they were in town. Here's some of the pictures I got. She lived in Pitt,PA.
Jackie Robinson signed on Aug 3, 1949 turns out it's fainted autograph, really nice pen indentation. Jackie went 1/5 that game.: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...psa271c252.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...pseb576387.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ps61dcf810.jpg Duke Snider Aug 3, 1949 Again, great indentation on photo hard to see with hardly any ink. Says, "Best wishes" in the corner. Snider went 5/5 with 5 RBIs and a HR.: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...psd780de83.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ps3ef477e3.jpg Robin Roberts- Looks like he signed it once and didn't work so he signed it again, did a better job. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ps6dc8878d.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ps02447a88.jpg Richie Ashburn-Not signed, but still a cool picture. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...psf2804abb.jpg Robin Roberts-Sept 1951 signed nicely. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ps1683518c.jpg |
