Nice pick ups guys. Love the Mantle g.
|
Nelson awesome card
|
Thanks guys !
Impatient to receive it. I saw they are 2 different back for the 56 Mantle card... gray back and white i think... Any of these 2 back are more valuable ? or no money difference between these 2 back ? |

As for monetary value.. i really dont know myself. |

Careful if you decide to go after the variations. It is addictive. |
Per PSA's website, series #1 (card numbers 1 through 180) were printed with both white and gray backs, with cards numbered 1 through 100 containing more white backs, while cards #101-180 containing more gray.
http://www.psacard.com/Articles/Arti...baseball-cards Since Mantle's 1956 Topps card is # 135, the white back variation is more scarce, and would be the one commanding a premium, if any. However, in looking at recently sold PSA 5 1956 Topps Mantles, I'm not seeing any discernible premium on the cards with white backs. There's been a pretty wide variance in where this card has sold in the last few months, and that could be impacted by things like centering, and eye appeal. |
great stuff, and awesome pickups

This may be lost on most people here, but these are 4 of the absolutely toughest 1972 cards to find in anything better than (at best!) 90/10 left to right centering. Look on ebay and virtually every single one of these is terribly miscut with only the slightest hint of white appearing on the left side. I am completely psyched to pick these up for my ever improving set upgrade!! Attachment 123633 And this is the cool 1970 variation where the baseball is missing from the cartoon on back. (I guess I should've scanned the back, too.) |
The 1972 "In Action" cards are the coolest cards of the 70's.
I just don't know how they missed Lou Brock. |
Clemente Rookie
love the hole-punched cards! Makes them affordable to me...

Great Clemente, Greg; but it is not "raw", it is in it's natural and intended, unfettered state :)

And now I have another of the monstrously tough 1972 'in action' cards to find with decent L/R centering. (It looks much better in person as it seems the holder has all sorts of dust and particles appearing.) |

Last one needed for my set (all Mantle cards issued except foreign, regional, and test issues).

A big thank you to a Net54 member who reached out after seeing me post regarding this card. Creeping along toward set completion as I was able to add 3 in 2013.

Great additions Guys!

I been wanting one of these for a while. I just keep getting outbidded, well one finally laid in my lap at the right time..sometimes its worth the wait.
Santa came a bit early: 1951 wheaties premium http://www.gregbussineauauctions.com...002_f_med.jpeg i was the somewhat 'unlucky' bidder on this one..I thought it was unique and didnt really put much attention into it..So i placed a very mininal early bid....then find out days later...its nothing more than a magazine cut-out..buts holds some nominal value to PSA set collectors...so maybe all is not lost. 1966 Nolan Ryan The Sporting News pre-rookie ..needed for PSA registry now ,,,still fits into my RC collection somehow. http://www.gregbussineauauctions.com...782_f_med.jpeg |
That Mantle is really nice! Great addition!

Bought the magazine last week and not sure if I posted it--it is complete and both cards appear to be in great shape. Thanks Scott! Just picked up the color photo today. I've seen it described as a 1969 Team Issued Photo, but if anyone knows more about it I would love to hear. It looked period, and I have a thing for affordable premium issued photos.

Nelson, the picture below is right a little more than half the collection. I started running out of space and did not think I could fit much more in the picture, so I did not disturb a couple stacks of cards. (Note: the carpet is brand new and not stained, not sure why it looks off color in the picture like that). http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psd33010a0.jpg |
Holy smokes...

Before I ever starting to collect anything post war I had a list of five that "I'm never going to get these cards".
They were a 1968 Nolan Ryan rookie, 1953 Bowman Pee Wee Reese, 1953 Topps Satchell Paige, 1952 Bowman Willie Mays and 1949 Leaf Stan Musial. Thanks to my wife as a birthday gift I was finally able to find the last of these five that I needed in a range I could afford and not look like it went through a washer machine. So excited about this one as I have become quite a Musial fan over the last few years. Drew |
Great Musial, Congratulations
|
Amazing BestDj777 (Chris)
You never showed them to me before. It makes me wanna take a group picture of ALL my Mantles as well. Then again, i try using PhotoBucket and listed most of them in the B/S/T thread. Bestdj777- that is an amazing pile...so envious on some of those. Maybe sometime down the road..i be getting my other 52 A RC variation. I really like to have all mine by 1 TPG grader..probably all by SGC. Right now mine is all mis-match by BVG/PSA/SGC. |

I just picked this one up from a Net54 member. Kind of a neat story goes with it, after we settled on price, he requested I donate the cash to an organization like the salvation army since we are in the season of giving. A nice gesture on his part for sure. Todd, the Salvation Army kettle got a little heavier yesterday. Thank you!
|
Wow, not even half way through the month and this thread is ON FIRE! Great cards, guys!
Chris, the Mantle collection is off the charts! Drew -- congrats on getting the 5th and final card. http://mindromp.org/forum/images/smi..._up_smiley.gif |
Ok...its not another Mantle. But a ALL-TIME great of mine, that i always wanted when i was growing up in Atlanta and watching the Braves.
He is a notch off my want list of RC's and a scratch off my 2014 colleting focus. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1954-TOPPS-12...So8Cz/$_57.JPG |
Very nice Aaron RC, Chris.

1966 Ryan
Chris - great pick-ups recently..
Regarding the Nolan Ryan, I tried to warn everyone... http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=179111 I'm sure there's a market for that card w/ Ryan set-collectors. Just make sure you sell yours soon before the other 4 hit the market (if you plan on selling). Otherwise, love the Aaron RC! |

Beautiful Killer & Yogi, Matt!
My latest purchases for my registry sets: the Yount is an upgrade and the Thomas is speculative (I don't expect he'll get in on the 1st ballot, but just in case...) Just picked-up Dick & Sparky (love the colors on the '72s!) and it looks like I have three more managers to go after now! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps589e8332.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...psb69e31f8.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...psdeecad69.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...psc3b8b755.jpg |

Nice maris !
|
I got this beauty in the mail today, part of the Roberto Clemente master set I'm building. I couldn't believe how nice it was once I got it in my hands. When the seller said it was mint, they weren't kidding. This is at least an 8.5, maybe a 9. It looks like it just came off the printing press yesterday, but it's 40 years old.
http://imageshack.us/a/img18/2558/4ibn.png The surface is flawless, the corners and edges are sharp, and the centering is magnificent. This will look really good in a SGC holder. :D |
I have been looking for the Mantle/Mays/Maris for a long time and it finally came up for sale as part of a set of what I thought would be all duplicates of stuff I already have. Fortunately, the seller included the color photo, which I have never seen before, and one of the other postcards ended up being a variation that I was previously unaware of. All in all a good purchase.

nice pick up Chris on that Mantle...i actually saw that last night and was gonna put in a bid, i felt it looked 'strong' went higher than a previous same one.
It was one of those oddball items, that i normally would of got, but passed on. I got my Greg Businennau lots in just today and got my Hank Aarron RC a few days ago. |
