To start a t206 player back run?
2 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
Hope everything is well :). So I was looking at my collection today, and realized I have two t206 Admiral Schlei cards. One with a Hindu back, and another with a Sweet Caporal back. It just hit me that, hmmm, maybe a back run for the Admiral Schlei card (catching) wouldn't be too hard to complete. Looking at the possible/confirmed lists for backs, I see nothing too crazy. I believe I already have the hardest one to obtain, the Hindu. Here's what is left:
What do you guys think? I think it'll be a lot of fun :) I won't make it my priority, because I have many other goals that I would like to complete before. But if I see a card as I go along here and there, I think it'd be pretty enjoyable. I would like to hear everyone's comments! Here are the scans: If anyone has any of these cards, I'd like to see if we can work a deal. Thank you. Lastly, has anyone noticed how much darker the name is on the Hindu card compared to the Sweet Caporal card? |
As a collector it's always fun to have stuff to look for that we "need". I think you will have fun so why not Wazoo? Good luck if you decide to go this route.
|
Sounds good to me Leon! I won't make it my priority, but I can work on it slowly and make it last :) Should be a lot of fun!
|
Nice Waz...runs are great to keep things interesting when your primary collecting goals are quiet.
|
Waz,
I think it's a great idea, and that is a great pose also. Cheers, John |

Always a good idea to start with the 'tough' ones and work down. That Hindu is a great start!
|
Agree one of the more fun and colorful poses in the set.

Yes :) I think it's going to be difficult to find an El Principe De Gales one though.
And beautiful card John. I love the overprint and grade! |
Waz,
I sold an EPDG of this card a PSA 5 in the set I sold this year in REA. http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/.../2013/189.html http://photos.imageevent.com/piojohn...size/sch_1.jpg Not sure how tough it is I'm sure there others out there. If it is really tough you know where one is. Then perhaps you can ask Rob or Brian of REA to contact the new owner and see if you can work something out. Cheers, John |
Beautiful card! I'll see what I can do. I'm going to be at the White Plains East Coast National, so I'm hoping to find it there. Who knows? If not, maybe another backed Schlei. I'll find it eventually. Thank you.

I might have found an answer for an El Principe ;) Too bad I don't have an auction house accounts :/
And true true. Thanks for the help Mike. I wonder. I hope to get it to work. I'm sure once I find it, I will jumping with joy! |
Oddly I just started my first back run with the Admiral Schlei portrait. Had the Uzit so that seemed like a good start.

t206
Chasing different backs is a fun project. I have 10 out of 14 different backs on T206 Luther "Dummy" Taylor so I always check on eBay weekly hoping to nail the missing ones but for your project. It seems not too bad since you already have the toughest one.
What are your other projects are? Best, Danny |

I want to finish my t206 back run. I'm missing only 7 more backs! Pretty crazy! It'd be interesting to see if I finished before I'm 20. I also want to finish the set one day. For now though, I want to obtain all the hall of famers, excluding Wagner and Plank. |
Gorgeous UZIT!
|
Waz....
Go for it!!!:)
|
|
Very nice David...get it Waz :D
|
PM sent David, thank you very much.

Whenever it gets there, it gets there! I'm just very appreciative of the card :) thank you once again. :)
It's a beautiful card for the grade. |
Kawika = Da Man (Hi David!)
PS- When is the East Coast Nat'l? |
He's a great guy!
Also: August 15th - 18th |
Nice David on the hook up, Waz any you see at auction let me know happy to bid for you.
Cheers, John |
We are an amazing family :) arent we?
Best of luck with your collection... |
I need to do some homework to see if Taylor used your player as catcher during 1901-07 NY Giants :) Therefore we should do some throw n catch soon-

Anyway, it sounds like you're off to a great start. Enjoy the rest! And props to Kawika. You're a class act. Regards, Richard. |
Wazoo, great idea. I can tell you from my own experience that after I "completed" the set I did a back run. It took me five years , but it was the most fun I've had with this set.
It sounds like you made a good choice with Schlei. There is no killer back ( Uzit, Drum, BL460), you have the toughest already, and because the player is a common the rest, when you find them, shouldn't be too expensive. So good luck and let us know how you are progressing. :) |
Hey Waz, one more thing. When you check for all backs on T206Resource, for some reason they don't include Blank backs. You have to check the Blank back checklist separately.
As it turns out, there is a Schlei blank back out there somewhere. Sorry, but your back run is going to be more difficult than you thought. I hope you still go ahead with it. -Sean |

Well that just makes the challenge a tad bit harder. I'm going to need to start selling more lemonade for one of those ;) haha. Maybe one day. For now though, my main priorities will remain with the backs I listed. I really appreciate all the advice guys!

I just got back from two American Legion baseball games, so the arms a little sore. Maybe tomorrow we can have a catch ;) |

Great work Waz! The Hindu and El Principe are ones you do not see everyday, huh?
Awesome project. What will you move onto after completing this run? Any big plans, or still undecided. Very nice youngster! Derek |

You've got great taste, Joshua. I just picked up one of the factory 649 overprints. The card is striking to say the least. I love the background colors.
Good luck knocking off those last two. |
Great stuff Waz!!

VT
Wait... Vermont?
I cannot help you immediately with your back run as I only collect HOF T206 but my ears perk up when I hear my home state reference. I am actually in Vermont this week again...3000 miles from where I call home now but I lived in / near Rutland 70% of my life. Waz... What town? |

Not to revive a 5 year old thread, but just wanted to thank everyone, especially David (for some reason I cannot send a PM) for helping me grow my Schlei back run. Was pumped to add the Schlei Sov 150 today. Just missing the Sweet Cap 350 Factory 25...cannot wait to finish the final product. I'm not counting the blank back at this time...
|
Way to go Wazoo. You'll get that Sweet Cap one of these days. :)
|
Which Sweet Cap you need? I will keep an eye out for you this weekend at Chantilly. Sean can attest that I have had some luck finding needed cards for other’s back runs at Chantilly
|
Sweet Cap 350 factory 25, Schlei catching. Thank you!

Those SC 350, 25 can be real pains. I had a hell of time finding a tinker bat off in an SC 350, 25; luckily another board member hooked me up (thanks again Mac!). I will keep an eye out. PM your phone number so I can text you a pic if I see one. No promises of success, but I will look

I know this is a superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr old thread but I just got around to taking a group shot and I am very proud of it. Thought I'd share this with the net54 community. Not one of those "overly difficult" ones, but a challenge needless to say.
|
Very nice Waz, some tough ones in there!
|
I like that Schlei image because his catcher's mitt looks like a gigantic frying pan attached to his hand
|
Really cool to see the progress over the years. Nicely done.
Chad |
Nicely done, Waz!!!
|
I might just skin a pd or sc back for you - As a gap filler. Good job on the run and I would consider it complete as far as distributed backs go.
