Great cards, guys!
I'm still irked that Santo wasn't elected to the Hall while he was alive. And I'm a Brewers fan. |

happy to land this 1961 National Bank of Washington Tacoma Giants Gaylord Perry card from the 'bay. It'll look nice next to his identical-twin-front 1961 Union Oil Tacoma Giants card...

Great card, Derek. You're the only one that I know who has both.
|
Great card. Did you notice it says he throws left on the back & he's throwing right handed in the picture? Call Bob Lemke we found an UER!

Those cards go well with each other, Adam. Cool cookies. (thumbsup)

Awesome Berra; I love oddball advertising premiums like that.
|
Nice Oddballs
I really like the Yogi and Perry odd-ball cards. I love the regional/odd-ball issued cards. Picked this up.

WOW, that's a real GEM, Matt.

That Clemente (along with his In Action card of the same year) is one my favorite cards of all time. Nice!!!
|
Nice!

Mantles
Came home to a box full of Mantles today. Thanks to Chris (pawpaw) for selling me the first two. I've been looking for the Exhibit Portrait for almost two years now, and it feels great to check that off my list.

Great pickup CW. The early Bowmans are such attractive cards.
|
Bea-u-ti-ful Jackie Robinson.
|
Wow!
Chuck, That 50 Bowman Jackie Robinson kicks ass! I'm looking for a Jackie to add to my collection as well, I would be pleased to own that beauty!

can't wait to get it in hand!!
|
Very nice, Derek, congrats.
|
Congrats Shaun on the Jackie pickup. You've almost hit the finish line. Do you crossover those SGC cards into PSA being hat your doing the registry set?
|
Thanks Matt. I am going to crossover the cards, both for registry purposes, and for consistency in the holders. Will probably cross over in the next month.
I'm hoping to finish the set in the next year or two. Are you going to try to complete the Musial basic set? |
Thanks, guys re: the Bowman Robinson -- appreciate it.
It's a great start for June in this thread. Page one did not disappoint. Great cards, all! |

Hey, Chuck...looks like we both added the same card to our collection this month, although yours is definitely nicer than mine. Mine has a couple stains on the back. I see yours was graded. As a point of reference, what was yours graded and what do you think mine would be graded at if I submitted it considering the stains? http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/y...s04dcdbba.jpeg http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/y...sf613fb58.jpeg Also picked up this '52 high number for my team set http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/y...sc3de64aa.jpeg |

A few Mantles

The Robinson I posted is a PSA 5 -- it also has a small stain on the back, in a similar place as the one on your card. I could see your card grading between a VG 3 or a VG-EX 4, so it's not far off from my card. That card just has such a nice, full body pose of Jackie -- classic. |
'50 bowman JR
Thanks for your feedback Chuck, I appreciate it! :)

I thought you were saving up for a wedding??? Whats the wife gonna say, when she finds out she could've had a bigger ring?? |

A few OPC Cardinals.
|
Nice '52 Mathews, Ted! If they ever made a list of cards that are notorious for poor centering, the Mathews would be right at the top.

Great Matthews RC! One of the best I have ever seen.
Where did you pick it up? |

In my quest to complete my 1969 master set, I picked up these three extremely tough to find 'white letter' rookie cards at the St. Leander's show in California today. A couple are o/c, but not enough to sway me. Got 'em at a good price, too. Not bad! And the 1961 Hal W. Smith was mentioned in a recent thread about 'unknown' scarce cards, so he was sorta stuck in my head. I found this one in pretty nice shape with decent centering in an 'Any Card for $1' basket. Niiiiiice!!!!!!! |

No...I don't think I'll build this one up nor cut it and get it slabbed...

Last pickup of the month
Picked these up in separate auction but pleased that they are paired up again. May print a copy of the insert to display in the holder.

I think this card is THE SLEEPER of the entire '52 set: single print, high number, the only recognized rookie card of an all time great player, the last card in the set and prone to all the inherent condition problems, AND one of the most difficult cards in the whole set in terms of centering. Given all those variables, I think it is undervalued. |

I guess I'm on a 1953 kick. Just picked this up.

|
Thanks Rob. That card is awful sweet for a "4". I always thought Red looked so scrawny in that picture. They list him as 170 lbs. at that time, but that might have been generous.
