What set are you currently trying to build and will see it threw till the end?
For me it is the 52 Topps set all 407 cards well centered in PSA only (I prefer PSA for all cards from the 50's and up)....so far I have 20 of them including 4 very nice high numbers. Then I will go after the gray backs and other variations of this set. Post # 13 |
T205
I have spent the last 5 1/2 years trying to complete the 1911 T-205 gold border set (221). I am just about finished and 1 card has eluded me.
Good luck with your quest. r/ Frank |
C46
I've been working on the C46 Imperial Tobacco set. About 60% complete. Just picked up the Gandil and McGinnity and hope to knock out the last 30 in the next year or two.
|
1934 Gold Medal Foods (10 of 12 so far)
1956 Topps (just started) |
I did complete two of the three Imperial Tobacco lacrosse series sets (C60 and C61). Wasn't really planning on completing any sets at this point but if there was another it might possibly the C46 set, although at first I set out to just collect the "Big Three" plus some of the major leaguers that appeared in this set.
|
My only set that required true endurance was my 1975 Topps on the PSA registry. I love the set (it was the first full set I owned as a kid) and I thought it would be fun to tackle it, well, it proved to be more of a marathon than a sprint. 660 PSA 8's and up became a rather dull feat after a while.
I love the set and I enjoyed piecing it together, but there were times I had some serious doubts about whether I wanted to complete it. I finished it 4 years ago and I haven't attempted another registry set since. If I were, I would try to tackle the monster :) |
I'm almost finished with the E93 set, only need Plank and Cobb plus a few I'd like to upgrade at some point. I'm also about 2/3 done with the W554 set. Since the new year though I've really been focusing on the E92 Nadja set. Both the E93 and W554 shouldn't be too hard to complete. The E92 Nadja's are going to take awhile but I'm actually a little surprised with the progress I've made so far. Most of my sets are included here http://www.net54baseball.com/album.php?u=375

I had started quite a few sets over the past year, lost interest and sold each of them off long before getting even close to finishing them. I swore I had convinced myself I was not a set collector...
The only exception to that had been my T209 B&W set that I'm still plugging away at and strongly motivated to keep at it. Though the prospect of ever completing it are, well quite slim to none, but I think strangely that's what has kept me motivated so far. Recently I have begun a new project of going after a M101-4 and a M101-5 set (minus the Ruth for both) which I'm a little more confident I will see out to their completion. |
At the moment I am in the middle of a HOF run in the T205 set, and considering a similar run in the E90-1 set. As its stands I've got some of the toughies out of the way for both, but upcoming expenses are going to get in the way of any real future progress.
|
T205's I have 57 so far, and I started on 11/12/12.
Wiltse one ear – First card bought |
I started T206 in march 2012 and i dont know if i will ever finish the set in my life.
|
I already finished one 1959 Topps set and I am currently working on #2 of the same set. Do members here build the same set in multiples?
|
I have an impossible set to accomplish, but will have fun with what I can get ahold of
|
Slowly chipping away at the '38 Goudey set. Although it's only 48 cards I'm hoping for the right ones.

I am currently trying to convert my raw cards to psa graded. Also "The super monster set" has beat the $hit out of me. Have/had over 2400. Now I am going to settle for a 520 graded set. Time will tell. |
Still working on my first vintage set, 1959 topps. Shouldnt be too tough to finish.
I'd like to do: 1951 Bowman 1954 Topps 1963 Topps |
The only set I'm certain I'll finish is 1935 Goudey. I'm just going slow, trying to stick with vg raw cards. I just started an e93 and e95 set. I'm fairly sure I'll finish those in the next few years. I'm on an indefinite hiatus with my t206 set. I'm working on getting all the HOFers, and I pick up a few vg commons here and there, but I may not put any serious effort into getting to 520 for a few years.
|
Working on t206, like many here.
Also D304, and as many M101-6s I can find. |
Exhibit PC back. Need three to complete a basic set, countless if I want to do a master set [I do not].
|
Nice goals guys!!!:)
Last post for today talk to guys tomorrow. |
Neeed 3..
,,,to finish the Topps 1967 Stand Up set
|
Nice goals everyone, I get a chuckle when I see T-209-2 listed, ouch tough set. The one I keep waiting for someone to list is a master set of N172 )
I am currently working on a full run of Exhibit sets- 1921-1966, 24 sets and 1494 total cards, going on 10 years and down to under 100 cards needed but boy its slow going now. One of them I am working on a master set and I've completed 3 sets and over halfway to a 4th. Working on E93 in SGC 40/50 and down to 2 cards on it. Also a few other misc sets to keep me busy between my exhibit finds. Set collecting works great for me, helps keep me focused and on a budget. |
trying to finish an e104-2 set.. only wagner and hyatt left! the rest of the cards were surprisingly easy to get (aside from Maddox which took a while).
|
I admire everyone's focus.
I'm working on '61 Topps, '51 Bowman, '40 Playball and '33 Goudey. Even tried picking up a bunch of t206s at REA but lost out at ~3:30am. I'm determined to get the '61 Topps completed but am closest to finishing the '40 Playball. I need Mantle and Mays for '51 Bowman so that may be awhile before completion. |
I'm working on a run of full/unused Army-Navy football tickets. Imagine trying to build a set where most people tore the object of your focus in half. I'm at about 86% complete of full tickets. I consider that pretty impressive since the first three games probably didn't even have tickets (1890-1892).
I'll see it through to what it takes, but not sure set completion is possible...especially since a new ticket is created every year. |
54 Topps
My 54 Set is my long term project........here are a few I have so far..........just a few pics

My CJs. Been on them for 3+ years at this point with only the Cobb and Wagner to go, hence the sig line. Always thought Id finish and keep for a long time until recently. Either way, I cant image staying at 178/180.
|
W572 have 97 out of 121
|
almost done with 1940 playball and 1953 Topps. Halfway done with T206
|
Been working on the 1914 Cracker Jacks for about 18 months. Started strong but getting alot slower as of late. Enjoying the ride though.
|
It's only 13 cards but for the second time I am trying to do the 1947 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson set. Quit a few years ago and sold off 12 of 13 after coming in 2nd 3 times on the one card I needed.
|
Working actively on the T206 and T201 sets, the latter in higher grades. Need the Ruth to complete the '35 Goudey, and for some reason I keep coming back to the 91C and its funky models pretending to be ballplayers. May end up working on a few 1960's Topps sets somewhere down the line.
|
Working on the T206 Sovereign 350 backs set. Already hitting some challenges finding some of these guys in decent grades.
|
Fan Craze both years and 1933 Goudey.
|
3 cards short of Mayo Cut Plug and 99% sure going to do the 33 Goudey next. Always wanted to do 48 Bowman also and I already have the major cards in that set it is just commons.
|
Working on 1911 Zeenut set for 10 years,so far.
I need a few more, but they are the tougher ones. |

A nice 1961, my birth year, in strong EX or better, raw. I could just save up and buy a set, but what would be the fun in that? I figure picking up a couple of high numbers here and there will give me something to do at shows.
|
19th century Detroit of course. Some goals have been met, some I expect to eventually meet, and others will keep me searching to the end.
Complete or near complete: 1886 Tomlinson cabinet player set - complete 1887 N172 Detroits, all poses - complete 1889 N172 Detroits, all poses - getting close & then the subsets that will keep me looking for awhile: 1888 N172 Detroits, all poses N173 Detroits (one of each catalogued player) N175 Detroits (one of each catalogued player) |
Sets
Just over 20 left to finish up an E98 Master set. Also, trying to put a high end E94 set of 30 together. Looking for preferably purples if anyone has any they'd part with, but any other higher graded colors are fine too.
|
N36 in VG or nicer (6 cards to upgrade)
E90-3 (need 1 card) E125 (just over half way) D304 (need 4, waiting for them to hit rock bottom) D322 (1 card shy) D359-1 (5 cards shy) D359-2 (4 cards shy) F157-2 (need 1 card) R14 (need 2) R300 (need 4) R414-50-B (need that overpriced clemente, doubt i'll ever shell out for it) V300 (need 1 and have hunted it for 13 years) V304D in VG-EX or better(need 2) V357 in EX or better(need 3) ....you asked. |
E106 when I can find them for a good price!
|
I am up at our summer place in Cooperstown this weekend for the Hall of Fame game and at the same time am picking up the last few raw cards I need to finish off my 1956 set. It is from the year I was born. Also working on a 65 set as that was my favorite set as a kid.
|
Upgrading my e94 set...I have 6 or so cards I'd like to upgrade...and am casually working on an n43 set...I'm 1/4 of the way there!!!!!
|
I'm currently completing a T206 and T205 set.
|
T206 123/524
1954 Topps 24/250 |

I'm at 522 in the T206 set, so I've gone as far as I can. I'm working on sub-sets now, like getting a Merkle with every possible back. |

Lord that is a lot of sets!!!:) Post # 3 |
A couple of projects for me:
T206 Hindu SLs T207 HOFs - SGC 50/4 |
When I was a boy, my dad gave me his 200-ish card collection of 1959 Topps. They were my favorites for that reason. Ten years ago, I finished off the set and gave it to him for Christmas. Even now, I know which cards were his originals. I'll always love that set, and it will stay in our family forever.
As for now, I'm focused on the T201's. I just picked up the Cobb, and WaJo is my last superstar. After that I'll start picking off the commons. I have the 54T set complete, a near complete set of cards from the members of the 1908 Cubs, and am nearing a set of all the players from the Merkle Game. |
Familytoad Sets
I have sworn off being a set collector.
That's after I finish all of my sets of course. Working on completing my 1953-1980 Topps Run. (i have less than 600 cards to go) I am picking away at low grade 52 T, finished 50B and nearing the finish line on 51 B. Those are low priority sets though, as I am a prewar collector in my heart. I am collecting/ upgrading T205 Master set (221) after slaying the base set of unique fronts. Not many left but Hoblitzell (no stats) is stoopid! The set I am most interested in recently may never be complete... e210-2 York Caramels. Tougher cards than some folks realize. I finished the Type-1 so its a natural progression. Contact me if you can help , I have half the set now. But for a real collecting goal, I was going to collect a "playing years" card of every HOFer whose career was primarily post 1900. That was too easy, so I added a few older 1800's players and then decided to try and get (ahem) ALL the mainstream set cards of HOFers 1900 to 1980. Yup, really stoopid. Fun though, while it lasts...:p Btw- Murcerfan...um that's an awesome list! Best of luck! |
Had a run of 53 to current topps, tough times had me sell off most. Now working on finishing a 52 topps, need about 75 cards, mostly high numbers. Played with 1915 cracker jacks and t207s for awhile. Need about 35 PSA9 or better for my 78 topps set except for a PSA8 #400 all 9 or better. Never have been real focused, will pick up most anything I feel is a deal.

Nice accomplishment! I will settle for completing this set once> ZWheat |

Great that you are so close to finishing the 65 set. I get a kick out of searching for commons cards like Joe Nossek because as a kid I probably got one in every pack. There was always one guy you had 20 of, I particularly remember that in 66 it was Phil Roof. I could have wallpapered my room with his cards. |
Nice selection of sets everyone! I'm working on:
1966 Topps (birth year) 92/609 1953 Glendale Tigers (3/28) 1978 Topps PSA 9 Tigers Team Set (1st year collecting) 14/29 Looking forward to knocking some off my lists at the National this year! |

Nearly five years now on t206 but with disclaimers of course.
For the whole set there are 10 or less possible complete sets due to the Doyle card so would like to see all those T206 guys add their disclaimers. There will be no Doyle for me (not interested) nor Wagner (most overvalued card in the hobby) Everything else is up for discussion although the next two I'd nix would be Demmit and O'Hara. Magie I would consider and Plank may just not be worth the resources. They will certainly be the last two if they ever make it, Plank being completely legit but just too expensive. |
I am gradually working my way backwards. I am down to three cards for the 1954 Topps set (sadly, they are the Aaron, Banks, and Kaline rookies). That set is mostly VG to VG-Ex. I am mostly working on my 1963 and 1967 sets now (Ex to Ex-Mt), but I am dabbling in 1955 Bowman, 1956 Topps, and picking up the few cards from the early 70's that I need to finish my run back to the 60's. I had a fairly nice collection of graded cards, and a few months ago I bought some nice raw cards. I decided to get them graded, then at the last minute, saw that I was about to spend $1300 to get cards graded that I already had. I decided to use that money to buy other raw cards and then I decided to sell my graded cards and start over. My goal is to have 1953-present in baseball, 1948-present in football (Topps and Bowman sets) and eventually tackle the playball sets of the 40's.

Same goal for me with the 52 Topps, but I am not sure that I will collect the gray backs. I am somewhere around 20 away from completion. Re: Pre-war, I am only 1 card away from completing a T200 set (missing Cleveland). ZWheat |

5 yr chase to complete my AB T205 set. Want a nice Matty AB really really really really bad. Also plan on finishing the Pied 42's and Cycle SP's in the set. If any one has a Cycle grant or Dahlen FS let me know.
|
I'm working on a T206, E210, E95, and R319.
|
I love to see the dedication that your guys have!!!:)
The E94 master set and the D311 set are within "reach" eventually. The T210 set unfortunately is my white whale. It's fun to work on but my hopes of ever completing are next to nada.
|
1947 Jackie Robinson Bond Bread D302
|
Being the oddball I am....
I have 2 that I am after. The H891 1887 Tobin Lithographs (I have 3/10) and the F50 1928 Yuenglings, which I just "officially" started (I have 6/60). Had I the cash, I could have bought most of either sets recently, but then where's the fun in that? :D
|
I know that I will see 35 Goudey, N3, and N30 through completion. The rest of my partial sets, we shall see.
|
I haven't collected cards in some time, but I'm now coming to the point in my autograph collecting that I only collect a few things, so that will open up the door for me to start collecting T205's probably next year. Not too big on condition or variations so Poor to Good will be fine with me as long as they display well. No rush on completing the set but I'm guessing about 10 years. Geez I love the look of those cards.
|
-Zeenuts 1911-1938 (all sets)... not actually realistically possible as there are nearly 4,000 different cards produced, more if you include the tint variations found in some years (1915 and 1922 specifically). I am at about 2,100 different and luckily I have a ton of the later (easier) years on my wantlist as I've always focused more on the 1911-23 years... that being said it like going after 27 different sets at the same time. I have some I'm getting pretty close on but have yet to actually finish any of them...
sets closest to completion... 1925 -need 2 1922 -need 6 1923 Sepia -need 11 1923 b/w -need 20 1919 -need 22 1926 -need 22 1921 -need 25 |
