You know you are addicted when............

I had a dream last night about a Magie portrait (seriously). And I don't even collect T206s!!

.

sportscardpete 05-21-2013 09:39 AM

It figures! Even discussions about dreams lead to t206's :)

I think you know when you're addicted when you have stacks of auction books in your bathroom.

71buc 05-21-2013 09:39 AM

When you have a drain tube sticking out of your stomach, a catheter, and are connected to an IV bag and still find yourself reading Net54 at 3:00 AM. I am truly pathetic:o

wonkaticket 05-21-2013 09:41 AM

You know you’re an addict when….

You have 4 of the same $50-100 commons and you wrestle with the thought of letting one go.

Cheers,

John

P.S. Leon was it a spicy dream? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

tcdyess 05-21-2013 09:41 AM

That's not pathetic, that's dedication!!! Hope your feeling better!!!

PowderedH2O 05-21-2013 09:43 AM

You sell some baseball cards to make a bigger purchase (house, college, car, etc...), and then end up using a bunch of the money to buy more baseball cards.

Don't know about spicy but it was in a 5 holder!!

... when you start a card show with 2 buddies just to be able to hang out and talk cards all day.

BradH 05-21-2013 09:58 AM

Cards on my mind....daily

I've had dreams about cards in general, but never about a specific card (I don't think). I do sometimes find myself in meetings at work, daydreaming about whether or not I should pull the trigger on a card I've had my eye on on eBay or in an auction.

I've wondered before - when was the last time I went an entire day without thinking about cards in some form or fashion? I truly have no idea, but I'm sure it's been years.

I'll go a little further...

When you have at least one auction catalog in each room of your house; living room, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen/dining room, daughters bedroom (she likes playing with the older ones that I don't have an interest in keeping). When the catalogs are current they rotate around my house including the back patio.

Well if Leon is willing to share his dreams...

I also don't really collect T206 although I do have a few. Two nights ago, I had a dream where I was on an adventure with several friends to collect one of every front in order to turn them in for a giant framed picture of the T206 Wagner signed by every player in the set. Only one of these pictures was available so their was an intense hunt to be the first to complete it. The rest of the details are kinda vague but I remember having to lie, cheat, steal, negotiate, and avoid being killed by the other collectors (and some gangsters who were out to make a buck) during the adventure. Last thing I remember was standing in front of the giant picture (we are talking like 6' x 6') hanging on the wall, examining all the individual autographs on it, and then my alarm for work went off =(

We have a Honda Civic and a Honda Accord. Both of them are going on 6 yrs old and they both run like a champ. (knock on wood)

Zone91 05-21-2013 01:33 PM

I take the bus to go around I had 3 new cars in my life and 2 years ago decided the hell with it the bus passes every 30 minutes and goes everywhere I need to go and only cost me less than 10$ a month (a few tickets only is what I use)...the grocery store and all the rest is only a 30 minute walk back and forth...so I walk a LOT...need newer shoes more often but save at fortune in the end. Everything can be ordered online now so why bother paying so much for a car.

No more cars for me until I am told old or no longer healthy enough to walk that extra mile. I live in a big city so I doubt I will even bother to buy one then.

After flirting with my last venture into 911 Turbos, I've finally came to the conclusion that spending $50,000 on temperamental 90's super cars, was the worst possible investment. Sure 911Ts are really holding their value today, but when you start counting up service receipts, the "luster" of your investment quickly wears off. I've given up the sports car hobby..........for now :p

As you and I previously spoke about, and I was steadfast in my thinking, don't buy a used race car such as a 911T. It will be in for service more than you will drive it. Then too, when I hit turbo with the clutch in, so I could jump off the line, that probably didn't help a whole lot either. But what are you supposed to do in a race car like a 911T? I had to race from stoplight to stoplight.

Some of my old buddies in the Porsche club had some of nastiest tricked out 911s I had ever seen. The HP and torque they were laying down left me starring at the flame shooting out of their rear ends, lol.....if any of you are 930 owners, you know what I'm talking about ;)

That's funny, I owned a 1978 Porsche 911 from 1995 to 2003. I had to decide between the car and baseball cards. Since I only drove it about 2000 miles a year I sold the 911 to a friend. The last I heard he moved to Mississippi a week before Katrina hit. I don't know if the 911 survived.

Mine was a 1979, 930T.....I only lost one race in it...to a camaro with about a 1.5ft blower coming out of his hood. I used to race from light to light on Westheimer on Friday and Saturday nights, when I lived in Houston back in the mid 1980s...

You know you're addicted when you save a lot of money for a card you "have to have" in an REA Auction, only to find yourself so impatient for the auction to end that you spend it all on unnecessary cards (usually duplicates) on eBay.

Good one Craig. Zone I enjoy your passion.

My response to the original thread would be you know you are addicted when you begin to think of how much things cost in terms of vintage base ball cards. Hmm...new carpet or another rare back for my T206 back collection.

Hilarious! My two year old does the exact same thing. He walks to the box with me, gets the mail, then hands me the bubble mailers and says "here dad, more baseball cards". My wife likes to sometimes get the mail and hide the mailers just to watch me freak out.

I told him the truth I was waiting on money owed to me (for medical reasons that I have been fighting to get for a long while now). The money from my coin sale was spent on a few expensive cards and the rest went onto my condo or was given to my brother to wait till my mortgage is no longer closed and I can pay as much as I can humanly pay in one single shot....I can only pay 15% when it is closed per year.

Why do I have to explain myself every time I make a change in what I do? It is not at all respectful of you to come here and try to make me look stupid!!!

Yes I purchased about 25 other cards and oh my lord I had to cancel 2 of them but will still pay for the other 23 cards without fault!!! I just spent a tad more than I should have based on the fact I was expecting a large check....again not a lie....if I where to receive the money like previously expected I would have kept the 25 cards....SHIT HAPPENS!!!
