T206 Cobb
I'm no t206 guy, but very nice pick-up Jamie...how often do you see 9-10 congratulatory responses on a monthly pick-up thread w/ no additional cards added to the post? I sure as heck am not following that one up! Anything else will simply be a let down!! Perhaps we should just start a new May pick-up thread and start from scratch!!!
|
Excellent Jaime. PSA reports only 4 other Cobb/ Lenox. So now we know of one more.
|
the paper loss will likely not get u much of a bump if any, but man, what a pretty card, es for that rare combo as everyone says. Congrats for sure.
|
Thanks Guys! I will post new pics after I get it crossed over later in the month. Here's to a great month of May for Collecting. With REA this month I'm sure this is gonna be a great pickup thread.
|
Great Cobb!
I'm still wrestling with my new scanner -- the yellow isn't as bright as the scan, but I haven't spent the time to tone the scan down. http://photos.imageevent.com/ltsgall...rd_uzit_tn.jpg |
Great HOF Uzit Congrats!
|
Wow, nice front/back combo, and a 4 as well.
|
This is the best start to a month I've seen. Two HOF rarebacks.
|

Nothing spectacular. I've decided to work on my low grade t205 set. 36 to go including Joss and Young. Ought to keep me busy awhile.

Matching pair of Nattress cards with front crop marks and reverse back crops. Never saw those reverse crops on any Piedmont card and the front crops are new to me. They might be hard to see because they are yellow crop marks on the front, but the graded one is a full one and the other card is just across the top half. Very happy finding these :D

Nice Chris, what a find

Nice DiMaggio trio, Jerry. That Joe D. is nice -- great color and registration, which can be tough to find on that card.

A few stars from the negro leagues
1 Attachment(s)
Not everyone gets excited by Carmellos, but I was pleased with the way they look in SGC holders. All four played in the Negro leagues: Barney Serrell, Alejandro Crespo, Huge McDuffie & Lloyd Davenport. Love the glove in the back pocket on the Crespo card.
Purchased the raw cards recently on the BST. Best regards, Joe |
Piedmont 42 and other tough backs

I bought these five T206s in the last year, but just got them back from SGC last week. Conroy Piedmont Factory 42, a couple of American Beauties, a Cycle & a Tolstoi.
Best regards, Joe |

Nice pick-ups on the Caramelos. All 4 were top quality players in the Negro Leagues.
|
Carmelos
Thanks Phil.
I don't think many people collect them, or their 1940's sister set Propagandas Montiel, because of condition and lack of color, but I find the poses unique, and the stories of the players fascinating. They deserve more attention than what they receive. As you already know, Crespo was a powerful outfielder whose nickname was 'Homerun." He only played in the Negro Leagues for a couple of years, but chose to play primarily in Mexico and Cuba. "Ducky" Davenport was a speedy outfielder that played in Cleveland and Chicago in the Negro Leagues, but like many players of his day would switch teams and countries if someone would pay him more money. Davenport also managed after his playing career ended. Barney Serrell was called "The Vacumm Cleaner." He was the second baseman for the Kansas City Monarchs prior to the arrival of Jackie Robinson. According to Riley's Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues, Serrell was the better player and he was "deeply disappointed" when Robinson was chosen to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. McDuffie was a great pitcher in the Negro Leagues, on the level of Satchel Paige (if that is possible). A sharp dresser and a playboy, he was as colorful off the diamond as he was on. Riley's Encyclopediea goes on to tell many stories of McDuffie's baseball exploits. Like Paige, McDuffie pitched well into his fourties. Riley's Encyclopedia is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in collecting players of the Negro Leagues. It was recommended to me by another board member and I am very grateful to him for turning me on to a interesting niche in baseball card collecting. Best regards, Joe |
Nice Kevin!!!
Heck ya! Go TRIBE!! :)

I was able to get a real nice example with the help of a board member. Thanks to all members who replied to my requests. Very excited to be holding this one, which is now my earliest Ruth card!

Since the signed Ruth's were questionable, I'm excited to add this to my surprisingly growing collection. I believe it may be the earliest quad signed card.

Great Wagner-- I personally love old cards like that which "look the part." Lots of character and charm to go with the eye appeal. Great value IMO when one can find such an example.

Thanks! I really liked the image on the Wagner, was very happy to add it to my collection.
