With just hours to go until March, I figured why not start it with what I received today. A huge thank you to Cerberus!

That is a beauty! Nice find!

T206Collector 03-01-2013 09:31 AM

It's been a busy 2013, especially lately!

It's been a really good month so far -- when it rains it pours, I guess.

First, I reacquire three old friends of mine, signed T205s of Doyle, Bridwell and Jones:

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-lA77cRuMu-6pulWWLive4RT3dysq2WPtX5u9gk-z0Y?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-B008EpeC2Lc/UTDWWHILc_I/AAAAAAAAQ68/4YnQE5TORSs/s800/T205sNewandOld.jpg" height="218" width="800" /></a>

Then, I acquired this really tough signed T206 of Al Bridwell -- love the specificity of the date on the back (yes, Bridwell always signed on the back of tobacco cards for some reason):

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iqlrEhNek82S0xtQbjusIDiJm_Z5QsNdec5_I7WHZRE?feat=e mbedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-PSBddPXWNDw/USaOP7ouJhI/AAAAAAAAQ4w/vjqadWW4glw/s800/Bridwell_Signed_T206_w_Date.jpg" height="717" width="800" /></a>

Lastly, I added another T201 with the Jefferson Burdick stamp. I now have two!

Mac,

That's a great card. I bought it off eBay about two years ago before sending it to Joe in a deal. I thought long and hard about keeping it and selling the one I have that's in a 3 holder, because that one is such a nice-looking card. Who cares that it's in an "A" holder? Really nice pickup.

For me it would be the Piedmont but only by a hair. They are really close and it is more about what appeals to you more. I think the Piedy has a bit better centering.....but that is just my opinion. I think you should just keep both.

I agree, the Piedmont.

wonkaticket 03-03-2013 07:01 PM

Thanks guys I was thinking the same but the color on the 55 was just a tad better and the centering on the 60 was better...so I was beating my head aginst the wall a bit.

Cheers,

John

Congrats! You got it at a pretty reasonable price also. I was underbidder, but was caught up in Sunday evening grocery madness when the auction ended. I wouldn't have gone much higher anyway since I have one.. it's almost a mirror image of your's (only I paid more;)).

I'd sell both and buy more OJs :)

Seriously, I think the Piedmont back Matty looks better, not sure why I think this, it just seems like it has better color/registration.

Matthew H 03-03-2013 09:38 PM

John, your OJs are ridiculous!

I'll throw in a vote for the Sweet Cap. The surface looks much cleaner, the Piedmont looks like its been handled more. If the SC didn't have the slight diamond cut it would be an even easier decision, for me.

Thanks! Those matty/devlin cards are tough!. I have over 150 t202s and still need two of them. I didnt think that would go under $300 as there is a sgc20 in sterling that's at $175 with a week left.

I just don't like the surface stains on the Piedmont, find them distracting.

I was surprised to see the final price also.. The only reason I thought to bid was because it looked like it could be had for a reasonable price. I got mine as a loan bidder for an opening bid of I think $295.. And i felt lucky. I love those T202s, the combo of portraits and action shot and all great write ups.. But it seems like prices keep slipping. I'll keep picking them up though. Good luck getting your last few cards!

Not even CLOSE to a set! I have many of the key cards- Cobbs (still kicking myself over missing the Moriarty "Cobb steals third" that went super low on eBay in December), Mattys, WaJos, and other HOFers, as well as the two player combos that were huge in drawing me to the set originally- Tinker/Evers/Chance and both Speaker/Woods... however I have a looong way to go for a set. I'd love to have the set, but not sure I have the focus (or storage space!) needed to finish. You sound like you're in the stretch run.. more power to ya!!;)
