ft sweet caporal honus wagner authentic

here it is guys.
been in the family for a long time, my grandfather picked it up when he was a kid from someone in georgia. We had it authenticated in 2008, he almost auctioned it off in 2010, however he was not satisfied with the price. I dont really like honus wagner, with this in mind Im willing to trade this for some other cards. Other cards Im interested in include 52 topps mantle 51 bowman mantle, 54 dan dee mantle, goudey babe ruth, cracker jack ty cobb, hank aaron rookie and other high end cards. I dont really know what to value this card at since it is so beat up, with that in mind if my trade is way to high let me know.
Im also
thanks

I've got a 1990 Score SAMMY SOSA Rookie Card if you want it...

Um.....

npa589 02-18-2013 05:14 PM

Also, are you a male nun?

wonkaticket 02-18-2013 05:15 PM

Since you’re unaware of the value in this condition I can tell you these don’t go for very much, now if it was Heine Wagner in this shape we could talk trades.

Uhh.....I think he's gonna need to throw in more than just the Wagner to close that deal with you for that gem.

Leon 02-18-2013 05:32 PM

I emailed and PM'd this person Aclinton1107. Until he and I talk on the phone he won't be coming back. Right after I PM'd and emailed him he left the board (the little green dot is gone). I don't expect he will be back again. Thanks to those who alerted me. And if he and I talk, and he convinces me he is legit, free drinks for everyone (old enough) at the Net54 Dinner at the National. :)

I was told 75000 would buy it. He needs the money to buy the rare cards he listed.

Republicaninmass 02-18-2013 05:45 PM

He contacted me about my 1956 Topps set, seemed quite interested and we negotiated a price, but never heard back.

Frank

Robextend 02-18-2013 05:53 PM

I sold a couple T205's to him that I posted on the BST. He paid me via PayPal, then I sent the cards.

g_vezina_c55 02-18-2013 05:54 PM

lol funny thread :)

Leon 02-18-2013 05:55 PM

I just spoke with him on the phone. I was reading the NY Times article to him as we were talking. He is sticking to his story. I told him as soon as he sends me a picture of him holding the card he can come back. If anyone is doing any deals with him I strongly advise not sending money or cards until this gets worked out. I really can't believe we spoke for at least 10 minutes, I told him of the nuns, how the card is a fingerprint and everything. He stuck to his story. But, I do have a real number for him now as I called and he picked up. NO one will get too scammed....sheesh...

He tried lowballing me on some CJs a couple weeks ago. Resorted to name calling and some other juvenile behavior. Good luck on the book, I have his full name and email if needed (I guess Leons already got that?).

Leon 02-18-2013 05:57 PM

I figure this is front page material :) so I moved it from the BST....

sycks22 02-18-2013 05:58 PM

Best part about his write up is he wants a $700 Dan Dee Mantle for his '06 Wagner. Seems legit.

Robextend 02-18-2013 05:58 PM

It looks like he at least completed one solid transaction:

and trust me Andy, even if he somehow came up with a picture, ...photoshop and all....I can't imagine not checking a bit deeper. I will bet a dime to a dollar (virtually only, of course) that someone on this board lives near him. In my best Col. Klink voice- "Ve have ways of making Zem talk"

No sense in having a completely useless thread :)
Would you PLEASE p.m. me if you have anything pre-1900 Tigers available?

Thanks Andy.

Peter_Spaeth 02-18-2013 06:21 PM

If andrew has it then the heritage story about the nun was fiction and the card didnt really sell-- for starters. I guess anything is possible.

Having said that, I will reserve judgment while the OP has been given time to produce evidence that they actually have this card.

While I personally believe something is rotten in the state of Denmark here, I have been wrong before...

I almost bid on that Sanella book, but I figured I would be lucky to break even. I felt sorry for him because it seemed like he thought the book was worth quite a bit.

Peter_Spaeth 02-18-2013 07:48 PM

If andrew has it and his story is to be believed, there was one heckuva conspiracy involving heritage the nuns and dr depace. I suppose anything is possible except that both stories are true.

Steve,

I will admit, you do offer a compelling, well reasoned, and very reasonable stance. The thing I am most curious about is whether the card in question has changed hands since the auction. If not, then the OP is complete BS. If so, I will have some egg on my face, too. After all, I also threw a few barbs at him.

Best,
Eric

sreader3 02-18-2013 07:53 PM

Leon,
Thanks for outing this apparent phony. I'm wondering if there is any card other than the Wagner that would invite this much (proper) scrutiny . . . .

Makes no difference if it changed hands later the two versions are still irreconcilable.

I am still waiting. And I am still in a bit of awe that he just played it off on the phone the way he did. I was waiting for him to start laughing and say it was a big joke but he never did. I told him over and over I was looking at the card in other places, from one of the Nun's public appearances to the NY Times, to Heritage etc... Oh well...

Peter_Spaeth 02-18-2013 08:15 PM

So here is the alternative. The real consignor is andrew's grandfather. That is boring so Heritage invents a story about nuns and gets an order of nuns to play along, or somehow feeds a phony story and phony quotes to the press who takes them at face value. The granfather or a proxy is the high bidder on a safety bid so the card does not sell and Heritage makes up a story about a nonpaying bidder. Then Heritage invents a private sale andgets amajor customer Dr. de Pace to play along. Meanwhle the card is really in Tennessee with Andrew. Ok.

So did he have a response to the evidence you shared with him? Or did he just keep telling you the same thing over and over?

Maybe Andrew hasn't responded yet because the Lord is angry with him and hath smote him down?
